Sensory items are a MUST for us when traveling.. things like Play dough and kinetic Sand help prevent unwanted meltdowns and/or overstimulation 🧩🙂

Serenity’s Puzzle fantastic piece of advise. Unfortunately dylan hates playdough and things he has to touch, but I will be sure to add these to my blog post for others. Thank you 🙏🏻

Coming Home to Autism 🙂 There are many subtypes of autism and not one child is the same in how it affects them, so I completely understand that! Thank you for sharing your ideas! It’s nice to see other families spreading awareness and acceptance! We have a vlog channel we just started where we share our experiences and ideas having a child on the spectrum. Check us out sometime 😊😊

I can’t travel with my son anymore. I unbuckled my seatbelt to help my son during a meltdown whilst landing (the flight attendant wouldn’t allow us to keep the blind down whilst landing and we told them the sun through the window would wake him up) they said they ‘didn’t care’ if he has a meltdown and they called the police on us because I unbelted my seatbelt to help my son. They also wouldn’t land. This means he can never ever visit his family again, they all live abroad. This was 3 years ago. We went to a caravan last Halloween but he did quite a lot of damage to it. We are trying a drive to France (from London) next summer but we will need a Safe Space travel bed which costs 5k 😭 to stop my son hurting himself and damaging the Airbnb we are staying in. I hope you had a good trip😊

Wow, what a horrible experience and I do understand you. And how mean is this to call the police because you tried to help your child?! I fear my younger son's meltdown everytime we plan to go outside with him. Sometimes I do not even dare to visit the local zoo. And I feel bad for his non-autistic brother when we have to leave a place because of a meltdown.

I'm sorry that this happened to you. I have an autistic 5 year old who throws tantrums and displays self harm behaviors so I completely understand your fear and frustration. I believe you were discriminated against. You really should file a formal complaint and sue the airline. You tending to your autistic child does not pose a threat to rest of the passengers on the plane at all. The flight attendant was rude and responded to you inappropriately and without an ounce of compassion.

That's mad. On my last flight when I was struggling to manage a meltdown, the attendant said I just needed to get the seat belt on so he could check a box and after that he wouldn't be looking ❤

This was very helpfull I was diagnosed with autism last year and I am flying internationally in a few months and have been stressing out cause I have had HORRIBLE experience from before I was diagnosed. I am trying to make it as smooth as possible for me my meltdown are sometimes just that I get super nauseous but the airline usually just thinks I am trying to get a better seat and lying so I will definitely check out that card thing😊

Are they checking any papers/evidence of disability in order to get the "special assistance" at the airport? I'm travelling with my boy at the end of Oct. (he will be 22mts old), but he hasn't been diagnosed yet, so I do not have any proof of his autism, if anyone asked...
