The BEC is the brains of the car that's job is being the gyro and distributing power to all the electronics. I just run a simple Protek buster to reduce some load. That's kinda how and why most cars suddenly go up in smoke (Catch Fire).

why did you set the BEC to 6.5v when the servo is rated for 7.4v?

Thank you mate, I do like the way you do all your upgrades (hopups) very clear and concise all done in clean conditions not a greasy bench!! 👍 But! that was an eye opener!!!😱 Seems to me to be a lot and I mean A LOT of faffing about?!! Although I do follow you (subbed) and have referred to your vids on more than one occasion, but going through all that just to fit a servo is beyond me!! 🤔🤪🤣 Is it all necessary? Thank you.

With the servo alone I had some issues with steering sometimes having a mind of its own - I put it down to the servo not getting a constant stream of power, so I installed the BEC and its been fine since..... Its only needed for a higher powered servo really.......

Hi lookt at you video and it is really good. But i just broke my stock servo and im thinking of installing the same servo as you dide. But do i need the bec ore can the esc handel the new servo on its own? I do have the slash oba tsm model.

Hello, great videos! However I just spoke to Savox on the phone, I spoke with their head engineer and I told him that I was interested in upgrading my Servo to the same one you are using but I wasn’t sure about this BEC wire installation. He explained to me that the BEC wire is completely unnecessary and that it won’t do anything to help the Servo avoid any glitches because he stated the servos will not have any glitches. They are unsure why you decided to install this? Any feedback about this?

When I had the servo alone my steering would glitch every now and then - particularly more so when the battery was low. On a fully charged battery it would work fine. Hence installed the BEC to regulate power a bit better, and programmed for the correct output, and I now have perfect steering which is both strong and sharp. I'm not saying it is completely necessary, but it certainly helped for me and made my steering much more responsive. The servo itself works fine and is smooth, IF you can get the power it needs down to it. I guess it comes down to your particular rig and how much power all the components draw, as if other components draw lots of power too, then the Servo isn't going to get enough, hence causing glitches..... Add to this, I still have a few more bits to bolt on that will also draw power, so the BEC will be more necessary to ensure the servo still gets fully juiced!

The glitch issue is more then likely due to the use of the Nicd battery... switch to lipo for better power delivery
@johnstonite
@johnstonite 5 жыл бұрын
This is definitely my experience as well. Roll with a 3s LIPO and you'll never see a glitch again.
@orange1248
@orange1248 3 жыл бұрын
mine did glitch when I was using a NiMh, after I got a Lipo it was not a problem, probably due to the more power it has.
@7983SCyberhawks
@7983SCyberhawks Жыл бұрын
@@orange1248 no, it’s a known issue that the glitches are due to lack of power since the servo drains more power than the ESC is designed to supply to the receiver. The LIPO could be a fix because it supplies more voltage or something 🤷🏼‍♂️. Mine is all fixed after adding an ESC

What a pain buying all that stuff. That BEC ain't cheap to begin with and you'll still need to cough up some more for that old tech arduino dongle just to adjust the voltage. Me, I'd just get a DC-to-DC switching buck converter (which is what a BEC really is) for just US$2 and you can adjust the hell out of the voltage to suit whatever you're powering up with it. All you need is a mini screwdriver and any cheap old multimeter lying around the house. Just note down your servo's voltage and max current draw, buy a buck converter that matches the spec and adjust the pot screw to match.

Would love to see a close up of the cables attached under the heat shrink. I did this and wasn't able to get the copper connectors back into the plastic housing all the way. Just too tight.
@iftibashir
@iftibashir 6 жыл бұрын
I cut a little plastic away from the cables and soldered the BEC wires slightly above the actual copper connectors. That way the connectors fit back into the black plastic housing as the BEC wires are just slightly above - still covered by the black housing but not actually going into the connector parts - if that makes sense?! If you still have trouble you can also snip a bit of the plastic away further up the cables and solder the BEC wires there - anywhere along the cable to be fair - just cover with some heat shrink afterwards......

After spending $80 on the servo, $20 on the BEC, and the cable harness, spending an extra $20 on the Castle Link is nothing. Another point, sense you used the harness why not run the voltage up to 7.4 to 8.0? I believe the servo can handle 8.4. I run BECs in most all my cars and I crank the voltage up to 7.8ish.

And that RC enthusiasts is how you trade in various improvements for the heaviest slash ever, so get ready to enjoy a couple of "probable" benefits for some even more probable plastic breaks! Very popular perspective thinking the more your RC has the better! Wrong! Upgrades should only be done after solving a specific recurrent issue after your particular style of driving. if you don't tend to over heat... don't do a cooling solution. If you never look at your speed metric while driving, don't add sensors or GPS. If you don't break servos... don't do a servo swap. If you have never broken a chasis... don't strengthen the chasis. And so on! If not needed, all the shiny alum upgrades don't flex and will break plastic parts! In real racing teams weight reduction is at the top of the list... so keep that in mind before doing any upgrades your driving style didn't need! Great tutorial videos by this guy! ENJOY the weekend fellas!!!

This is a very good point. I do not race etc - I just enjoy adding bits and upgrading - but if you are looking for a specific purpose for your RC truck, then you hit the nail on the head ;o)

@@iftibashir agreed, I just like to add the bling parts just because and I don't care , it's supposed to be fun ,like a art project without having an artist, a form of expressing oneselves or really just taking your mind off of the daily drudge

Hello, If I recall I asked this question somewhere else on KZfaq and was told "No". I am not 100% positive, however there will be many forums written about this topic online that can give you a definitive answer. Take care ✌

If you shrink wrap it well and you have the waterproof version of the bec you should be fine as long as it isn’t submerged
