Drove by a yard sale and this little piggy caught my eye! Couldn't believe how cheap it was!!!!
So, carb was possibly good, but lacking adjustment. What would you do next?

I’ve had a Mac 3200 for over twenty years. It is a great little chainsaw that is very easy to maintain and repair. I still have the original piston and cylinder in it with no visible wear on either, despite many years of use. It is completely reliable and cuts almost as well as my 49cc Stihl 026 Pro. I run it at 50:1 with no problems and use it for my dirtiest jobs, burning through chains like crazy cutting brush at ground level. I bought it decades ago at Home Depot for $89 and it is outliving me. Sadly its no longer manufactured, but EBay has most if not all parts for it. It is probably the best running chainsaw that I’ve ever owned. I would never consider selling it.

I have a Mac 3214 I bought new back in 94. It’s leaking bar oil too. The hose that runs from the oil tank to the pump rotted. The oil filter was banging around in the oil tank. Replaced the hose which solved the huge oil leak but it still drips oil after running a few minutes. Put a complete carb kit in it, replaced the rotting gas lines and purge bulb and it runs like new. Not a lot of hours on mine either. Still has original bar and chain that is still relatively sharp.

I’ve been having the same issue as you. I have the same 3200 chainsaw but it’s rebranded as craftsman. I’ve rebuilt the carb, replaced the fuel lines, and use trufuel premixed 40:1 fuel, it worked fine the one time I’ve start it. I cut a few logs and then suddenly It started to die out slowly and then once it did die I couldn’t get it to start again at all!! So a couple days later I decided to start it again and I just couldn’t get it going I’m so stumped of what the problem could be. Should I clean the carb even though I rebuilt it and replaced all the gaskets? Or should I use a richer mixture of oil and gas of like 20:1? Or should I just replace the carb all together. I really don’t know what to do at this point. I can appreciate all the help I can get! Thank you

When he was trying to adjust the idle and he started it and then couldn't get it started again...he should have left the choke in the off position. Once I get mine started, it will not start again unless the choke is all the way off. On a related topic, I usually have a hard time starting my 3200 after using it which doesn't make sense to me. My other two strokes usually start easier when warmed up. I've sometimes had to let it cool down to start it again when hot. I read somewhere that the hot restart problem is because the engine is running too lean and too hot. In researching this I found out that, on older McCulloch engines like this, McCulloch recommends "McCulloch Two Cycle Custom Lubricant" at a ratio of 40:1. "If you can’t find the McCulloch oil, a high-quality SAE two-cycle oil can be used at a ratio of 20:1." (Twice as much oil?) I didn't know this, I've never used McCulloch oil and I've generally used a mix around 40:1. Supposedly the richer mixture takes care of the hot start problem and makes the engine run better. I'm preparing to do some much needed maintenance on my 3200 like replacing the fuel lines and primer bulb and then I'll try the richer mix to see if that takes care of the hot start problem. This is a cheapo consumer-grade chainsaw that isn't worth pouring a bunch of time, effort or money into. However, since I already have it and it doesn't have many hours on it, I will keep it going for when I need it.

Mine quit pumping oil to the bar end up having to really tear into it. Turned out to be a gear wasn’t turning the pump works now but mine cranks easy maybe bc we put a new magneto in it.

I start buying my fuel. From our local Farm & Grain Mill. They have non- ethanol gas. 94 octane. Everything runs good with that gas. Non-ethanol gas if you can get it. Everything runs better with it. Doesn't tear up the fuel lines and carburetors.

..these really are not a bad little saw for a cheap homeowner saw when you get the fuel lines/oil lines/primer sorted out, which is usually all that's wrong with them..occasionally, they will have a bad ignition module or oil pump. Not a lot of power, but they are ruggedly built...I like 'em for what they are. I would never pay $10.00 for a non-running one, though..I've picked up a bunch(and revived several) of them from the scrap yard, buy 'em for their "irony aluminum" value, around a buck apiece..nobody else seems to want them :)

I scored nearly the same deal, but I paid $20! Mines is in a little better shape, old man died and young kids had no idea what they had! Not hardly a speck of dirt on it... Has a Zama carb so it is probably from either the mid 80s to the early 90s.

Metering circuits and jets are probably fouled and that plug is a dead soldier probably. These are good little saws, but like any chainsaw, you have to run them dry, clean them... Btw, Western Auto, less than $100 in the 80s, $300 bucks in mid 80s you could buy a Millright!

for a home owner a cheap 40v line of electric chainsaw is much better, unless you are going to be cutting down entire trees and making logs go with an electric. Even a plug in homelite saw will do just fine and you don't even have to worry about the battery.
