Just blew mine up and I'm way more bummed about it than I probably should be. My old 610 could do mill work, landscaping jobs, and firewood cutting just as well as my modern saws, but it had that cool factor and honestly fit me better than almost any saw I've used with a 26 inch bar and skip chain. Yes it's a McBrick and it's annoying to repair, but it was MY McBrick. As a guy who grew up in the Pacific Northwest who knows big trees and good saws - Don't overlook this machine.

Purchased two 610 at sears back in the 90’s used the daylights out of them and stored them for over 20 years. Decided to see whats up and see if they still ran. Changed fuel lines that crumbled and they fired right up. Just replaced 20” bar with a new 28” bar and ran stihl 93 octane pre mixed fuel. Screaming cutting wood spitting sawdust 15’ away. Totally a badass saw. Heavy as hell but badass saw. Appreciate the video💯

They are great to buy on the cheap even without trying them out because they are so incredibly reliable. If the saw is not totally beat up, you can be pretty sure it will run. And if they do need repaired, parts are available. And they are easy to work on. What's not to love?! Thanks for a great video.

I love the look!! Now when they first came out, I can see folks funning on them. However, this is one of the "MADE IN USA" vintage models. It's a rare jem these days, and they are easy to fix. Treated properly, this sucker will last a life time or two. I have my father's saw from the 80s. Still runs like a champ. I just had to replace fuel lines and a carb rebuild kit. Got a free 1974 or 78 (the sticker on it is not very definitive) 310 that hadn't ran in atleast 10 years, maybe even longer. Yet with just taking the plug out, oiling the cylinder and chucking some fuel into the carb it ran. Hell i found out today that the diaphram still pumped fuel. its insanely loud and smokes so much that it deters mosquitoes and other people in a 2 mile radius and i love it lol

My Dad had a McCullough 610 Pro Mac that he purchased in 1979 (I believe), & he really liked it. I inherited the saw, & used it some. I thought it was a well engineered saw, & in some ways, even by today's standards (smooth & quiet power). I decided to sell the saw after I learned McCullough had gone out of business, thinking parts would become hard to find (due to no more organized parts support). This turned out to be basically true, & at the time I sold the saw, I hadn't yet done much online parts shopping, but mostly obtained parts from a local small engine shop. Now, there may be some online sellers that have either NOS or used parts for these saws. But I didn't much want to sell the saw, as it ran very well, & was in excellent condition (I took good care of it). Anyway, thanks for the infomative video on the McCullough 610 chainsaws! Cheers

About a year-and-a-half ago I picked a 610 Pro Mac up for $30. I spotted it on OfferUp, the guy who owned it literally used it I think maybe twice and just put it away in the garage and there it sat for years. McCulloch has always laid their cylinders down except for their early gear drives and the mac 15. Their reason was to have the vibration from the pistons movement to be in line with the bar when cutting to help with vibration control. Other brands went to standing their cylinders up right. However the 600 series was a black and decker design and the true McCulloch name was gone. But there are two things you can't kill in life...taxes and a McCulloch 600 series.

If that's what you feel it's worth then buy it. Take a look at other saws of the same/similar size and compare quality and longevity. A saw like this if being used as an investment to cut firewood to sell or personal use will quickly pay itself off vs being a shelf queen which is why I say ad a collector, don't over pay as mine may get used a couple times a year. @mistermacgray
@mistermacgray Жыл бұрын
People think buckin is the main reason but you would be suprised how business men are jacking the prices up calling them rare, hard to find, etc...and listing on ebay and people don't research first, want instant gratification and buy one over priced. That continues to happen and you see prices drive up.

Good price to me but hopefully it's just carb and not needing crank seals which they aren't expensive. The chrome bore is the thing to worry about or poatin damage from an improper fuel/air mixture being ran in it.

On the 2-10 the is sprocket...looks old and maybe original...from start he he of saw. I can bearly read 62572-A on it and other side...SM 57. Do you know if it is 404 pitch ? Where to find chain and bar for that sprocket and that saw ? You know ? It har a bullfrog in it and i got it running he he but cant wait to get chain and bar...that i can use. We more used to 3/8 and 325...which seems not to fit. It looks like 7 grip or teeth... It is the round type spriocket... not the star kind of theet lokking sprocket...if you understand what i mean. Ansvers apreciated !
@mistermacgray
@mistermacgray 2 жыл бұрын
McCulloch used their own type of chain back in the day and it was pitched at .350 and you may have to change the rum drive out for ⅜. Now McCulloch also used a rim drove that was made to be part of the drum and that means you will also have to get a new drum and sprocket to go with a free floating rum drive setup.

I wouldn't pin it on him like everybody does. You can betthat atkst chainsaw events around the US there are McCulloch saws at every one of them being shown off. Vintage saws in general have gone way up. 20 years ago when I started collecting, you could buy good running big cube muscle saws with long bars all day for $300 on ebay. Now those same saws are all over $1000. I blame it on mid life crises baby boomers & gen x. IT guys & bankers & such...

@mistermacgray in your opinion, what model Mac's do you believe are Rare/ hard to find? I'm just curious your thoughts. I have a saw that you don't see come up for sale very often, or I don't anyhow. And they seem to bring pretty big money when they do. I have an unmolested Pro Mac 850. Mine even has the factory chain brake and 24" McCullough bar on it. I don't think the saw has ever been apart. 😊 it was my Grandfather's logging saw, I think he may have bought it brand new.

@ericfryer2160 ones you don't see for sale too often ate the 10 series gear drives, some of the 1-8x series and the BP1. The 850 is a good saw but has a chrome bore and when it wears out, expensive to get rechromed, parts aren't getting easier for that series to find either.

To each their own. Mine start up without issues and guys to this day still use them with zero issues even as far as Australia. I have over 50 McCulloch saws in my collection and only a few doubled up models. Not everybody gets lucky to find a running saw or has the skill, time and patience to get something running but my goal with my channel is to change those things and encourage people to get their hands dirty working on small engines. Best of luck to you and your collection.
