A jury found the three white men accused of killing Ahmaud Arbery, a 25-year-old Black man, guilty on most of the 29 charges they faced the day before Thanksgiving.
More trial coverage, here: www.11alive.com/ahmaudarbery
Arbery was shot and killed on Feb. 23, 2020. Cellphone video leaked to the public shows two armed white men in a truck approaching the 25-year-old Black man as he runs down the road. One of the men, later identified as Travis McMichael, and Arbery struggle over McMichael's shotgun before Arbery is shot and collapses.
Travis McMichael, his father Gregory McMichael and William "Roddy" Bryan, who recorded the video, are all charged with murder in Arbery's death.

Their arrogance, contempt and disrespect toward others is a major part of the reason they both got lwop + 20.

Gregory lost his law enforcement certification 7 years before he retired with a full pension & medical benefits. He was an accomplished liar for a long time. His boss, The DA, his boss, Jackie Johnson, who is now facing federal charges, covered for him for all of those 7 years knowing that he was not a certified law enforcement officer Hmmmmm. Guess her credibility was in question way back then. Gregory saying his firearm was department issued to the REAL police at the murder scene was a lie. He was supposed to turn in his badge and his department issued firearm when he was decertified because he couldn’t pass the tests to renew his certification. A man of lies, deception & racist hate is much more accurate.

Blah blah blah your arguments are weak …The lady who is more worried about dirty toe nails rather than the criminality of her client..
@tuck1726
@tuck1726 2 жыл бұрын
I’m not defending Greg but she phrased that argument very poorly. It was a legitimate argument against the prosecutions story. Wearing timberlands with uncut tone nails is not indicative of a jogger. Neither is cargo shorts. Furthermore coming full sprint out of a construction site is not indicative of a jogger either. Seeing someone in a sprint gets people’s attention and especially when they’re not dressed for occasion. Anyone would be suspicious of his behavior as everyone who saw was. However, these men had no right to chase him down. They should have done what the other neighbors did and call the police. It’s not irrational to think he was up to no good. Can you honestly say you’ve seen people sprinting in timberlands for recreation? I can’t say I’ve ever seen someone sprint on the street for recreation. These facts along with his attire and tone nails don’t support the prosecutions narrative. His toenails should have have been brought up. The other facts were enough to sufficiently prove the point. None of it matters regardless. Even if he wasn’t a runner and he was scoping out the house it doesn’t make their actions justified. Why I believe it’s valid for the defense to bring it up is they were using the jogger narrative to give Arbrery innocent reason for running. Even though it legally doesn’t matter trials are not based on law alone. A large part is creating a narrative for jury. Many Americans think those who punish criminals are in the right regardless of whether the punishment was criminal. Therefore, the prosecution wanted jury to know Arbrery was not a criminal. (Note I don’t think he had bad intentions. He wouldn’t have been seen multiple times and not had a bag to carry his loot) These men were so worked up about this mysterious thief that when they saw a man sprinting they went into hunter/prey mode. They were like dogs chasing after someone that runs. It’s honestly easy for me to see where someone could act as Riddle did. With the months of buildup, neighbors screaming and pointing, man sprinting, and friends in pursuit he probably thought that was their guy. That doesn’t make it right but it’s easy to see how executive function shuts down and fight or flight is triggered. If you disagree with me, address my points before calling me names. I say that because many go straight to name calling. Also note I sympathize with all people who get caught up in crimes due to circumstances. Usually it’s black people I sympathize with the most. I don’t like it when society seeks to endlessly punish them instead of rehabilitate. Often can teach people to think about consequences of their actions, think about impact on others, and use CBT to increase executive function. The default mode network is just that our default. Little cognitive thought happens when in fight or flight. Amygdala takes over. We have to get people to default to use executive function and the prefrontal cortex by default. It’s what separates us from animals. These guys operated on that primal instinct and a man lost his life as a result. We have to entrain people to not seek confrontation. Once brain is entrained, confrontation is avoided by default when conscious decision making is shut down. This happens through neural circuits wiring and firing together. Neural plasticity allows these circuits to change which is why I think rehabilitation is possible. They had been entraining their minds for months to catch their. Our current prison system does not allow this rehabilitation to occur. It’s all about survival and prisons use natural survival instincts. The repeated exposure to this entrails the brain the opposite of what’s needed. That’s why recidivism is through the roof.

@tuck1726

@@elirien4264 you missed the point. That’s not what I was trying to say at all. I said it’s not INDICATIVE of a jogger. Go to any kind of fun run, marathon, 5k or park. 99% of joggers wear relatively the same attire consisting of athletic clothing usually shorts and running shoes. You will sometimes see military dressed in uniform with boots but that is for a very specific reason. Furthermore joggers rarely sprint. There was no mention of HIIT or him doing wind sprints. Jogging and sprinting are mutually exclusive. My whole point was it doesn’t matter legally if he was jogging or not. The prosecution said he was a jogger to ensure jury saw him as victim. My point was people’s perception that a person can’t be a criminal or loiter and a victim is screwed up. They wanted the jury to not see him as those so he could be seen as victim he was. The only widely acceptable/plausible reason is he was a jogger so that’s what prosecutor went with. Conversely the defense wanted jury to see him the way the McMichaels saw him. His toe nails were indicative of someone who doesn’t run. I don’t think he was a thief, criminal or jogger. I think he liked to walk around and explore. I did that myself at start of pandemic. Usually not dressed in running attire. I would occasionally jog and go into other neighborhoods. I wouldn’t consider myself a jogger. It doesn’t matter if he was a thief, jogger, trespassing or career criminal. They had no evidence he committed a crime nor authority to detain him. I don’t understand how saying his attire is not indicative of a jogger can be disputed.

@@tuck1726 what was wrong with minding their business. If Ahmaud Arbery had been running doing the street Naked they had NO RIGHTS TO MAKE HIM TO EXPLAIN WHY HE WAS NAKED. He was not bothering any of them. They assumed he did something . Now I can assume they meant to kill him . When they chose to get their Guns from inside their home. Then get in their Truck because they assumed he had stole something. They never even used that in their defense. Now they can sit in a new neighborhood with those Assumptions for the rest of their lives. Lesson learned just because you assume someone did something you don't have the right to make them stop to talk to you about what they are doing or not doing? Another Lesson Travis should have have stayed in the house with his son and not take his gun out. Lesson they should have learned is if you kill somebody who was not bother you or your family or your property. You are going to Prison for life. Now they know.
@tuck1726
@tuck1726 2 жыл бұрын
@@geraldineallen8060 exactly! I just don’t understand why most Arbery supporters don’t stick to the undisputed facts. 1. He committed no crime 2. He was no threat 3. He was exploring construction sight 4. He was unjustly profiled and killed The jogging narrative hasn’t been proven and it just gives morons reason to justify his death. They wrongly assume if jogging narrative is false then McMichaels are justified. We have exact same viewpoint on that. Nothing Arbrery did permits someone to detain or kill him. It only matters now after his death. Each side was arguing to convince jury of their mindset. One side says they profiled him as criminal and they had to defend themselves. The other side said he was murdered due to hate. The jogging narrative was created after his death. He isn’t here to tell us what he was doing and he may have told his parents he was going for a jog. There’s more evidence he wasn’t than he was. (I suspect he liked to walk and explore. I certainly do it eases anxiety and allows me to think.)The jogging narrative was the story prosecutor and his family told. If he was known to the neighborhood as a jogger, than the McMichaels should have no reason to suspect him of criminality. That’s why jogging was continually brought up. The wanted the jury to believe there’s no reasonable person would suspect a jogger like him of stealing and he was murdered due to their hate for blacks. So the defense refuted that with evidence he was not jogging. The defense was trying to show the neighborhoods perspective of Arbrery. Many people in the neighborhood other than these guys were suspicious. If he was frequently seen just jogging, that wouldn’t be the case. He wasn’t known by neighborhood as a jogger, he was known as guy suspiciously loitering. None of this matters at all but prosecution/media bring it up. It was even brought up at sentencing. The defense has to refute the narrative. It totally skews the real picture. There were neighbors pointing at Ahmad, people calling each other, people calling cops, woman who testified her initial reaction was suspicion upon seeing him, 3 dudes chasing him and group messages all regarding about Arbrery. NOONE said anything about him being a jogger and it was all driven by suspicion. Given all these circumstances the narrative he was a jogger and no one could reasonably suspect otherwise, is a flat out lie. Clearly many reasonable people did and 3 unreasonable people did as well. Ultimately people need to mind their own business. Until he presents a danger to you, he’s none of your business. What he was doing, what they thought he was doing, what other people said, crimes in the neighborhood, what he’s was wearing, where he lived, or how many times he was seen at that house should not have been brought up at trial. It’s all irrelevant. Arbrery is innocent anyways until a jury of his peers says he committed a crime. The neighborhood gossip group chat isn’t a jury. The only exception that would constitute bringing that up in trial is if they could somehow argue those factors posed a threat to public safety. That really can’t be argued in this case.

I agree. However, the prosecutor and her team could have dropped the ball. They didn't and the prosecutor did a great job in the trial and in this sentencing hearing to destroy the defense attorneys legal arguments. The prosecutor stood head and shoulders above the defense attorneys and was diligent, knowedgable and in full grasp of the facts and applicable case law. Well done to the prosecutor in getting the sentence these vile individuals deserved.

She is asking the court to disregard the fact that Ahmaud was chased down multiple street's??? Ummm, I just have to wonder what defense she is doing? She is now admitting that the crime happened so that she can ask for a lighter sentence? I'm just blown away by this part.

Greg McMichael had no authority or even justification for an illegal detainment. Being that Greg was a former police investigator for the DA's office, he knew that what Ahmaud Arbery was not committing any crime from being on a public street weather he be walking, jogging, running or crawling is NOT illegal, and Greg McMichael knew that it was a violation of Ahmaud's civil and constitutional rights to try to "detain" him. Greg McMichael is just as guilty as his son, maybe more so, because if Greg did not go into his son's place and got his son to assist him in chasing down a black man to trap him at gun point, Ahmaud Arbery would still be alive today.
