When horror icon Shinji Ikari’s Tango Gameworks and Bethesda Softworks come together, a masterful video game series like The Evil Within is born. This third-person survival video game carries on the baton of horror passed down to it by Ikari’s finest, Resident Evil. It was followed by a sequel, The Evil Within 2. The game branches out into extra storylines - The Consequence, The Assignment, and The Executioner.
The game revolves around the feats of protagonist Sebastian Castellanos, who has to maneuver his way around a world full of hellish creatures and horrifying locations. With the help of guns and melee weapons, Sebastian faces his enemies head-on and makes progress until he fulfills his objective.
The story unfolds on a chapter-by-chapter basis. Sebastian Castellanos is a detective of the Krimson City Police Department, alongside Joseph Oda, and Juli Kidman. In The Evil Within, the three of them are thrown into a distorted world while they were investigating a mass murder in Beacon Mental Hospital. As Sebastian gets separated from his partners, he encounters several villains along the way. He is also being stalked by a man in a white hood - Ruvik.
As the game progresses, Sebastian learns about Ruvik. Born Ruben Victoriano, he was a highly intelligent child. Following the death of his sister Laura, in a fire, Ruben’s face also got disfigured in the accident. He was then kept in the basement of the manor by his father. Both experiences traumatized him deeply, causing Ruben to kill his parents. He went on to donate the family money to the Beacon Mental Hospital but in return, he got their exchange subjects for conducting experiments on the human psyche.
