The scene where they're all eating spaghetti and sauce and Stan comes in to break the news about the audit... it always makes me want spaghetti and meatballs!! But when he finishes his bad news and asks Dorothy to pass the cheese (I think.. it's been a while) Dorothy: I will NOT!! Now get OUT Stanley!! Stan: Calm down! I can eat it plain... LOL it's so ridiculous it cracks me up...

Story time! Once upon a time I worked with an Italian gentleman who had an office next to mine, and we were both fans of the golden girls. Occasionally he would have it on in his office and I'd hang out for a minute and catch a little bit when I had to go in there. Well, a few days after we watched a particular scene I had to go ask him something on a file. So I listened outside the door to make sure he wasn't on the phone with a client and then barged into his office with "NOW LISTEN UP YOU WHITHERED OLD SICILIAN MONKEY!" which simultaneously caused him to bust a gut laughing for a solid 3 minutes and horrify everyone else within earshot. It was a win-win.

I just finished binge-watching the entire first Season of Golden Girls and this show was light years ahead of its time! The writing, the acting, the punchlines, the cast, everything about it is timeless and brilliant. Betty was absolutely adorable in her portrayal of airhead Rose. I'm glad Rue had the foresight to avoid being typecast and quickly switched roles with Betty last minute before production began, because I couldn't imagine her pulling off a convincing Rose (and Betty pulling of a good Blanche).

A few of my favourite: Rose: Walking by that sausage case back there really brought back a lot of memories. Dorothy: Sausage opens a floodgate for *Many* of us, Rose. Blanche: You no-good, back-stabbing Jezebel. I demand you show me that paper. Dorothy: I'm sorry, flattery won't work. Dorothy: ...We clinked the glasses and Stan gave me a coy smile and I winked at him and I just down the champagne in one gulp....and it didn't go down smoothly. Later he told me that he put my engagement ring at the bottom of the glass. It turned up three days later. Rose: Where'd it turn up, Dorothy? Dorothy: On the Home Shopping Network, Rose. Blanche: Dorothy, this is crazy! Since when do you care how you look? Dorothy: I think it started when I came down from the bell tower and had my hump fixed! Blanche: This dress looks sensational on me; people expect to see me in a sensational dress! Dorothy: And what do they expect to see me in, a yarmulke and a Hefty Bag?

One of my favorite set of comebacks is when Dorothy couldn't hold her tongue at an Elvis fan club meeting that Blanche had organized. Blanche: That about concludes the first meeting of the Hunka Hunka Burning Love Fan Club! But before we adjourn, our secretary has a real special surprise. A genuine Elvis artifact! Rose: It’s a partially eaten pork chop. (Passes it around.) He had beautiful teeth, didn’t he? Dorothy: This has to be a fake. Elvis would never have left this much meat on a pork chop! Blanche: Dorothy, you’re out of the club. Meeting is adjourned ... Well, I hope you’re not too upset about this, Dorothy. Dorothy: I’ve just been thrown out of an unauthorized Elvis fan club. I’ll try to pick up the pieces and go on with my life. I mean, there must be a support group for people like me.

I was born in 1960 and grew up with woman in the family that were intelligent, sophisticated and dead serious about the way 'one carried one's self'. But, let me tell you, they could spitball one liners in an instant when the occasion presented itself. To this day, I still think of them. This show is a perfect rewind and a spectacular example of the matriarchs of my family, (and many other families) and their members of days gone. We still laugh because of them, and with them still. Just good stuff...⚘
