Played by the incredible Estelle Getty, Sophia Petrillo is the resident Queen of Shade on "The Golden Girls." She was lovable yet savage, ruthless, and fearless when it came to throwing shade at Dorothy, Blanche, and Rose. It was usually Blanche, though, that got the brunt of Sophia's savagery. Sophia reminds me of my late grandmother... after she suffered a stroke she recovered but for the rest of her life she had no filter, no chill and was hilariously savage. I became a fan of "The Golden Girls" because when I was little, I would stay with my grandma Betty- "Grammy" as I called her- after school and she was a big fan of both "The Golden Girls" and "I Love Lucy." Watching these shows nowadays makes me feel as though Grammy is still alive and sitting next to me on my living room couch. Grammy died when I was fifteen; I miss her a lot, but I'm doing okay.

Two lines stick out to me Rose: so what is ham short for ham? Sophia: my guess would be ham and potatoes!😂😂 And when Rose told Blanche's neice Lucy we enjoyed having you and Sophia responded so did half of Miami!😂😂😂

And I read somewhere that she was supposed to appear occasionally on the show. After taking part of the pilot, Sophia became one of the main characters. Thanks God.

Sophie Petrillo will always be my favorite character from this show. I love her sassy and bad assy self😂. When my grandma was alive, she and I would laugh the most over her antics.

I used to watch this with a 75 year old man...he loved Sofia and would tell me I'm more like Dorothy...sarcastic..I miss him...Rip Eddie...I watch this when I think of him...
