That WAS such a funny one! And to see Blanch jump at it was even funnier! All part of the roles! They had some very good writers, because some of those lines in the show were SO classic and funny! And the girls pulled off their roles so well.

So, when I pulled this on her, she rolled with the punches and took the "pratt fall"! lol She knew the line from the show (and really WAS a witness to the Hindenburg disaster) LOL So, she said nothing and acted like nothing was wrong. One time, in a supermarket, I pulled this while we were at the cashier, and the lady was in tears laughing and trying to hide it from my mother! lol (She didn't actually see the disaster, but she went down to New York Bay with a lot of other kids to see the Hindenburg flying over on it's way into it's port in New Jersey. But she was close! lol)

So this turns out not to have aged well. (I mean that's hardly their fault but it was just played for so many laughs). And I'm not even talking about the #MeToo era, although that's totally valid as well. At some point just before the movie was released (The Front Runner), an article in The Atlantic came out with a story that essentially proves Gary Hart's career-ending incident on the Monkey Business boat was actually a big set-up by the political opposition (GHWB's campaign manager, Lee Atwater, based on a decades-old deathbed confession by him)...but framed as if it was something he was doing it much more out of his own volition. It's a fascinating read...especially considering there were polls showing that Hart had a decent chance of beating HW. The month before the article came out, Rachel Maddow had a whole segment on it. Even more crazy is this article came out just before the movie did, which of course had wrapped up production months earlier, so it's not noted in there since they didn't know about it!

And one great memory I have, I was with some friends in DC. It was winter, we were waiting for the subway, and we started singing the "Miami Miami" song. It was funny how many people around us knew what we were signing and sang it with us. Truly wonderful the Golden Girls are! I hope they know how very appreciated they were and are today!

I can NOT live without my Golden Girls...sometimes on days when I feel down, or even just when I'm standing in my kitchen cooking dinner, it is truly a must have to watch them and hear their voices EVERY day! The Golden Girls keep me smiling even when I thought I may not make it through the day, and they keep me looking forward to my later years!!! Can't live without them!! Thank you💜

Bea Arthur could make anything sound funny, but many people don't know why the jokes have stayed relevant for so many years. The writing was outstanding: 1. "...always depended on the kindness of strangers" is a reference to Blanche DuBois from A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams. 2. The Spirit of St. Louis was the first plane to fly non-stop across the Atlantic Ocean. It was flown by Charles Lindbergh. 3. Gary Hart was the Democratic front-runner for the 1988 presidential election until he dropped out after a scandalous affair with Donna Rice. 4. Chrysler New Yorker is a car model that had been around since 1940. The joke is that Blanche could have been doing this "exercise" for over 4 decades. 5. It is Hawaiian custom to greet visitors with a lei when they get off a plane. The woman confused "lei" with "lay". Also, "thongs" are referring to his flip-flop sandals, not underwear. 6. The joke is actually cut short in this video. Dorothy follows the "slut and a moron" line with "Sorry, it must be decaf." This is a common excuse used by coffee drinkers who are cranky before they have their morning caffeine. 7. Pretty self-explanatory. Companies try to take advantage of older people (especially women) financially by preying on their insecurities. 8. -12. No explanation needed. Just laugh.

Yep, what an odd show to love as a kid but it's hilarious, and I really think Dorothy's sarcasm influenced me. I pull these faces almost every day! Another weird thing, I once had a dream that I was hanging out with Bea Arthur like we were BFFs, and then I found out the next morning that she had passed away that night.

When I was five or six years old I remember a certain Friday night when my 16 year old sister wanted to go out with a guy named Randy. I think Randy was 18 or 19 years old. Anyway my mother forbid my sister to go out that night and I remember my sister throwing a fit and shouting to my mother that "You don't know what it's like! You've never been in love!" And without missing a beat my mom calmly said, "Sure I have honey, thousands of nights."
