We had an absolutely incredible dig on this stone liner that ended up going down 15 ft. Took a little over 2 days because of the amount of glass in this one. What a blast and saved some great pieces of history. We also spend Friday at Shupps grove and met many great diggers and d collectors including Digger Dave, Pontil Paul, Gregory Gifford, Steve Cibrowski, Danielle Kreeger, and Tim Collins. Such an awesome time, brought home some sweet bottles, some for resale in our auctions, and some for the personal collection. Hope you all enjoy the show. (Bottle in the Hole)

Man that was just another amazing dig guys, i really like the way that you both encourage one & other when somebody pulls a rare bottle & no jealousy. I have seen so many friendships broken over arguments etc. I dont mean to sound all lovey dovey but one of the best things about digging is digging with a good mate & the both of you come across like good mates. Love the pic at the end with Travis junior & Digger Dave & pontil Paul, thats what its all about guys, well done.

Thanks brother man, it is exciting to see history dug no matter who digs it. We both put in equal work so we both reap the rewards . We also made a pact a long time ago that if anything we dig sells over 2k dollars we will split the profits. So far we have not gotten to that status, though I did turn down an offer for 3k on my Palatine salt glaze pitcher. Also helps being best of friend outside of digging. Me snd Corey are like brothers more than friends. Super hard to find a friendship like ours. Thanks brother man for your kindness and continued support.

@@CrickDiggersInc Thanks heaps for the reply Trav, it is great that you & Corey are like brothers, I dont know why I put so much value on true genuine friendship i spoze its because i have seen people that have been friends for years lose that friendship over a bottle. All the best on your next digs guys.

I just recently ran across your videos and really enjoy them. Question: I dug tons of outhouses 40 years ago in lumber and coal mining ghost towns in Somerset County PA. However, I don't know about these clay caps. What are they, a layer of clay put in at the time to seal off the crap? My reason for asking: my 21 year son and I have now taken up the hobby and I am thrilled he has caught the bug. Maybe some depressions we are digging and hit deadpan clay and we quit, are just a clay cap as you call it and there is more below? Thanks for sharing your experiences. Keep digging!
@CrickDiggersInc
@CrickDiggersInc 3 жыл бұрын
Yes it was very common to cap privys every 10 or so years. Depending on depth they sometimes will have multiple caps of either clay or sometimes slate,sand,and even lime. The only way to determine if it’s a cap or not is with a probe. Also if you are uncovering the walls as you go down you should notice if the wall continues you are not at the bottom. They can be very tricky and we have encountered up to 3ft clay caps before that you will only know if you probe it. Good luck and glad you and your son are out adventuring together. Nothing else quite like it. Thanks brother man .

The FOURTH documented pharmacy drugstore in Cumberland - besides W. H. LeFevre followed by pharmacists C. H. Holtzmann's and Leichtenstein's drugstores. Hervy Laney (1852-1904) was the owner and operator of the Red Lion Pharmacy, one of Cumberland's leading drugstores from (1877-1900). He had begun his trade as an apprentice physician and then as an apprentice druggist prior to opening his first drugstore in 1877. Laney's Red Lion Pharmacy operated at numerous locations including Baltimore Street and 22 and 24 North Centre Street. Prior to his retirement in 1900 due to poor health, Hervy Laney advertised the largest stock of patent medicines in the city. He sold Youth Face Powder at 15 cents a box, Anodyne Liniment at 25 cents a bottle, Digitine for chapped or chafed skin at 10 cents a stick, cough syrup for 10 cents a bottle, plus electrical call bells, batteries and photographic material at bottom prices. Laney provided medicine at all hours and once a customer purchased a dollar's worth of merchandise, he was allowed to choose one photograph from Laney's collection of "Beautiful Cumberland Scenery."
@johnlord8337
@johnlord8337 2 жыл бұрын
So the Baltimore street pharmacy timeline could be H. and W. H. LeFevre starting the first pharmacy in Cumberland, then likely passing to Hervy Laney and then to C H. Holtzmann. The street location of the Leichtenstein's is current unknown.

Now a FIFTH pharmacy in Cumberland. W. P. Campbell & Co Pharmacists ! There is the notice in Merck Digest 1899 of the graduation of George D. Campbell from the Maryland College of Pharmacy that might be the son of W. P. Now a SIXTH pharmacy in Cumberland. G. W. Hurd is mentioned in Cumberland. 1899 Digest mentions that Cumberland is 2nd biggest city next to Baltimore with 13,000 population. Douglas R Percy of Frostburg dies 1898, age 49, business partner with W. H. LeFevre and eventual sole proprietor with the sale in 1870s. The retail druggists of Cumberland have set up mutual protection organization against cutting (diluting medicines for profit) names are Thomas W Shryver, J F Zacharias, G F Lippold, W F Turner, C H Holtzman, and Harvey Laney.
