In my biased opinion, the most critical of them all, is sleep. I work night shifts, and I eat healthy 24/7 to maintain energy levels, but I still feel dumb, because I don't get enough quality sleep so i end up fasting during the shift before getting home to get into a deeper REM. Not sleeping at night is detrimental, been doing it for almost a year and yeah I feel the side effects, like drowsiness, slow reaction, more anxious, even having digestive problems, and last but not least, not producing melatonin. Don't do night shifts unless you really really need to.

I feel you too. I'm working at night shifts since the pandemics... and I do the same: eat healthy, fast all night long for sleeping better, training with kettlebell and running 4-5 times a week. I got excellent levels of energy and also muscle gains. But my sleep quality is not the best at all. ... the solution: stop night work. I don't find another way to do better... I'm applying for a sunny work now 🙏

Mindful Meditation is about letting thoughts popping in and let them go. At that point you start to be the audience and this starts to peel another layer(again worrying) and you gotta deal with this new layer because that is the actual exercise. Not reacting is very close cousin to this. So when ever you are stepping back that creates a new layer of consciousness and you cannot escape it happening but you can learn to be aware it happening. This is also the key to learn to enjoy life without alcohol or sugar or cocaine or heroin or tobacco. And time. For an addict addict it takes 10-15 years to learn to live again without those basic poisonous substances. It is no big deal. Some people simply are not addict addicts and others are.

Thank you for the explanation about not reacting, which happens to come on a day when my intention for the day was not to react. I have meditated for about 10 years, usually about 20 minutes a day, with deep breathing incorporated into it for the past three years. What a good explanation about dopamine. My mind still races all over even when I pick a sentence or a word to focus on. Thank you for this new tool where just not reacting is a goal and I know it's helpful because I'm not feeding the dopamine stimulation. ❤

We’ve learned how to go to heaven but not how to get heaven in us. Once Christ is in you - you won’t have difficulty reacting. I used to meditate, it works and I’m not against it. Morning prayer, learning how much God loves us and by knowing that we have access to the same Holy Spirit Jesus had when he was here healing others. Once we become right with God we can truly become right with ourselves and God takes over and love pours out.

Thomas I've been on a diet recommended by so many today (no red meat, no milk etc) that is highly Zinc deficient and my brain slowly became so freaking unhealthy. I've developed all kinds of symptoms, my libido was gone, I was depressed 24/7, suicidal, no proper sleep for months, memory issues, lost interest in people, tired, losing my hair (that's when I decided to check hair for deficiencies lol), I thought I was dying. It is all healing and reversing since starting zinc supplementation (and also iron complex), but I'm still recovering from that. This is so terrible, I think it should be included in your list since this diet is so overwhelmingly recommended and turned out to be so dangerous! And plant sources of zinc contain too little zinc + phytates that block zinc absorption

I’m not sure if such a thing exists in the US, but in Poland, we have something called wild blueberries which grow only in the forest. These berries are well known in Poland and everybody can’t wait for them to ripen to buy and freeze or make something tasty like “Jagodzianka”. These wild berries are a million times healthier than your blueberries and they are literally filled with purple dye. You might want to check for them if you are interested in health.

Just like it is impossible to quantify a sodium quantity for a wider population (which ranges from the 90 lb girl who works in the air-conditioning to the 300 lb roofer who has to drink 2 gallons of water per day), I believe that it is similarly impossible to quantify magnesium for a population that is consuming doctor prescription, unprecedented levels in human evolutionary terms, of dairy and calcium. I believe anecdotally that magnesium is needed to balance unnatural levels of modern calcium intake. Just my hypothesis based on my anecdotal experience and calcium:magnesium modulation experiments since the fall of 2019.

There are some valuable inputs in this video. Thank you for sharing Thomas. We know from many sources that physical exercise and mental exercise, good sleep, a balanced diet including, fish, olive oil, vegetables and fruits, no beverages, and no sugar are some of the good things for brain health Alcohol in small amounts is good for increasing your cholesterol some studies say. Today we are learning more and more studies that say the opposite of the previous studies. Ten or more years ago eggs and butter were the worst things for cholesterol, now eggs and butter regained their previous good reputation, and they are not causing cholesterol increase. Now it comes to what study you believe. Anyway, we demonize alcohol but not marijuana or other drugs. Talking about the bad side effects of marijuana and drugs in your brain is becoming a taboo.

6:00 yeah but you don't want the serotonin from the guts to get at the brain because it then convert to a neurotoxin (can't remember the name). Resistance training is going to prevent the toxic conversion and make it even an anti oxidant for the brain. Trying to remember, I think the vitamin D prevent this too. It's a Rhonda Patrick lecture. I'll try to find it and I'll come back. P.S. Sorry can't find it, just can remember the vitamin D intake was very important. It's radically an hormone. As much as the sun we need it as we age. Dark skin people too need more vitamin D. Sunscreen prevent the production of vitamin D btw
