Apple really needs to increase base storage on their products SSDs cost extremely cheap right now. It is possible to get 2TB ultra fast NVME4 SSD for $100-130... So what Apple is doing with storage is very unfair to the customers :(

NOPE. This is Apple we're talking about. They're not a trillion dollar company for no reason. They will NEVER pass that savings to consumers (to protect their "premium" status) and have even larger profit margins (hence the SINGLE NAND chips and despite the SSD chip costs going down, they're unwilling to budge and having that exorbitant SSD pricing since Intel macs.)

I was about to give up waiting on the 15-inch and just buy the 13 M2 Air. I was so beyond happy that I waited. Can't wait to get it Tuesday. Hopefully, the SSD didn't slow down more.

I put that AC+ on my 16" early last year. I have put mine up for sale now, and the AC+ goes with the machine (serial) number. The new owner will automatically get the same options I have today, which means their AC+ will go for as long as they like. Max, after a lot of considerations and watching the reviews, looking at what I use my current MacBook Pro for, I have decided to take the 14" Refurbished model from Apple. I have watched a slew of your reviews and put all the options in a spreadsheet, together with my wants and needs. I will take the 32Gb Pro model, very pleased they have them in Canada on the refurb store for now. I love my 16" and I have loved it for as long as I had it. The only thing is that I am afraid of taking it outside the home. It is so big, I unboxed it and the only time it leaves my desk is when I clean. Thanks for all your reviews, we might not always agree, but I am taking the reviews serious and the guidance in choice is great. It has taught me to look further than the offerings and consider options. Jeff Bezos is not selling new Apple products in Canada yet, his loss ;-)

Max is right the Midnight one grabs finger prints like crazy. I still love it though ... I wanted a a really dark looking laptop. Reminds me of my PowerBook G3 from 1997 ... loved that Mac!!! So ... I just clean mine every couple of days. If you use "Invisible Glass" cleaner it looks perfect every time.

I bought the M1 Air yesterday for $800 new at Best Buy. Love it. Easily best laptop for the money with faster SSD in the base model! I want it more portable so it's a no brainer for me but for those who want bigger screens, of course 15 inch will be the only option. Just shouting out the M1 Air because when it's $200 off brand new, it's just the best in 2023.

actually if you buy some transparent protective sticker, you can get away from the fingerprint magnet issue of the midnight blue! It's a very smart way to get away from the fingerprint problems!

Look at the additional space to the left & right of the keyboard. Revamping to include a number pad would be much more compelling than 6 speakers.

Great video. Looking at it closely I see that there is no speaker grills on in and m2 13 Air sounds very muffled and not as clear. Only downside for me but looking forward to your testing. Still rocking that base m1 MBA 😀

The AppleCare changes are interesting. Macs are unreasonably expensive to repair without it, I've decided to make sure that I've got it on mine. The fact that you can now have it indefinitely is certainly a good change.

I think they quote same battery life because the bigger display has more pixels to push, and larger displays use more juice in general to offset larger battery size.

I still like my Mid tier M2 Air in space grey a great machine….it has the 512 and 10 core and dual charger and bought it for $1,300 on sale at Best Buy…they have better sales on New than Amazon :)

9:15 I glad you read the comment. However, here is the point : We are talking about 5USD difference to insure their user has the speed but even more important longevity of their storage. And you can all see the price difference off going from 512Gb ( 2x 256Gb) to 1Tb (either 4x 256Gb or 2x 512GB). It is so much lower than what Apple is asking.

6:15 This is really a problem with all multiport power adapters. Sometimes just connecting a cable with nothing at the other end to the second port can drop the power output on the first port. Apple really needs to a native way to show how much power the Mac is actually getting. Until then, there is WattConnected for free in the App Store.

An interesting theory about a lock on the 6 GHz band for WiFi is suggested in this video. Indeed, the WiFi / BT solution is comprised of the radio frequency RF front-end (RFFE) and the digital sides. If the RFFE is only designed for the 2 and 5 GHz bands, then yes even if the digital side could support 6E, the solution in its entirety would be only WiFi 6 capable. It is not likely that there is a lock to inhibit WiFi 6e on a device that could support WiFi 6e from a hardware perspective.

I remember the previously released 13'' air used bluetooth5.0, yet after wwdc I went for the specs and it has been BLE5.3. Did apple really renew the bluetooth module for 13'' air? Might be my wrong memory though.

Sometimes the AirCanada rewards catalogue has better deals on brand new Macs than Amazon or Best Buy. In the past it it was usually poor value, but in recent months, the cost of travel has become so unreasonable that claiming travel credits towards a new Mac is now a valuable proposition.

Still one external display support ? Many office workers have 2 external displays, but don't need the performance of a very expensive mac pro... and so companies have to buy PC's instead.

PIsses me off that so many people are testing 8GB with the smaller SSD versus 16GB with the larger SSD. Many of us would like to see the performance difference between base model, and say, 8GB with 512GB SSD. Change one variable at a time, not two!

Which is more better in the long run, not a video editor not a gamer. Just Netflix , KZfaq’s sports streaming. Getting air for lightweight portability on the go daily usage for work and home use. Upgrade the RAM or SSD. ? It launches in my country tmr. I’ve just tried the mbp 14inch m2 .. it’s thicker and heavier although I must say the speakers and sharpness in display is obvious for normal user like me

All OEMs are switching to high-density storage to save space and cost. I assume that 512GB has moved there, the MB Pro 14/16 M2s already have. So then the advice that you should upgrade to 512GB which was wrong in the first place is an even worse call!

RAM matters even more for the M2 chip. With 8GB it can sometimes be the same or even slower than M1 chip. 16GB really unlocks it so definitely go for that!

I think getting the Silver is the absolut best idea with all Apple products, scratches don't look as bad as on the darker finishes an Apple keeps changing up every color except for silver so you don't feel like you have to get the new AirPods Max because it color matches with your MacBook in a year. Perceived obsolescence is a thing. Just get silver and you'll live a happier life.

I use a case on mine. The advantage of a cool running laptop is you can slap on a protective case and thermals still do not matter.

@@JoshEvansHeavens Even there you're sometime out of luck. iMac isn't available in Space Gray, Mac accessories haven't been available in Space Gray until the iMac Pro I think and especially with iPhone they keep changing even the dark color. Suddenly it's Space Black instead and probably doesn't match the AirPods Max and MacBooks which have Space Gray. They do this on purpose of cause but if you go for silver I've yet to see a product that doesn't match. Also I do like the natural color of the material. Machined aluminum is just beautiful by itself.

OMG so that Dual Charger at 35 W got a total of 35 W so that will split into 17,5 + 17,5 W!! Until now and this video I've always thought it's a 35+35 W charger. Thanks for pointing this out! I cannot understand why Apple is giving that Dual Charger 35 W as an option for MacBook Air. Because this charger will work perfect for iPads and iPhones! Holy cow!

I think many of us do not fast charge our Macs due to how long they last. So charging becomes easier in downtime. The 35W can be used fully if you just charge one device at a time and use the dual USB-C for say charging iPad and iPhone simultaneously.

Just searched around and there's two different 35W Apple Dual USB-C chargers: A2571 A2676 I just saw a rewiev and a test for A2676 and the conclusion is that this charger is the worst in the industry. A 10 dollar charger with a 60 dollar price tag. It's a video on a other channel, just search that up. But I'm a bit confused over the power sharing for the two ports. There's no good info from Apple about that. I don't know what more to say about this Dual Port charger. I've always trusted Apple's own chargers but now I don't know if I can trust Apple that much when they release "special chargers" like this Dual Port charger and we know what happend to AirPower... We average customers should not need to google or find videos on youtube where experts are testing these chargers to find out that Apple's chargers sometimes are kind of a scam and not "good old classic Apple class/standard". I hoped to find out that Apple is the industry leader, not the opposite. Maybe they focus too much on Apple Vision Pro? :)

did he say wifi 5 was better than 6e? pretty sure with 6 ghz it would be better or you can force it to 5 if 6 ghz doesn't go through walls as well, my experience is 5 ghz is better than 2.4 so maybe 6 ghz is too as it makes up for it in overall bandwidth.

I prefer slow charging. Less damage to the battery. And since the battery life is so long, there's rarely a need to charge it fast. Just use it all day and then slowly charge it overnight. And I don't want to waste a USB on the laptop to charge the phone. Also, the dual charger weighs less. BTW, I was going to get the Starlight colour, thinking it was bluish-silver. But I saw it in the store and it's pinkish-silver. So i will get Silver.

TSMC has seemingly decided to spread out the 3nm improvements over two cycles, so do not expect M3 to be as big. This allows M3 and M4 to both be better than average upgrades.

Agree! But if it's panic and you need a new Mac asap you cannot wait many more months. But if you - can - wait for the M3 family of Macs then wait! I don't know if M3 will be a game changer but it's def worth waiting for! I got a Mac Pro 2008 (!) and need something new to replace that with and I probably gonna buy Mac Studio M2 Max. I feel that I cannot wait for another 12-18 (?) months for M3 Max. So it all depends on which Mac (or PC) that you already got. I wish that I can wait for 12-18 more months for something better than M2 Max but I feel that I need something new very very soon :)

You are not going to notice those disk speed differences unless moving super large files..

Quite true, the bottleneck will be your external device, and I have no devices that exceed 1.7Gbps. If you have a NAS or are doing heavy loading and offloading, likely you will have a much larger storage to save on SSD wear.

I have never got more than 5 hours battery life on my Macbook Pro M1. That's with full screen brightness (why make the screen worse?), and everyday normal tasks. The battery life that Apple say their laptops have just does not work in the real world.

Given that the 512 GB version is better for swap and read/write speeds, should I upgrade to 16 GB of memory or will 8 GB be OK? I believe 24 GB to be excessive for my needs. I already have an M1 MacBook Air with 8 GB and an M1 Mac Mini with 16 GB memory and the Mini rarely uses swap memory.

Yes, no need for swap for most people if they have 16GB of RAM, so the 256GB single NAND storage is moot. Get the 16GB if you can.

Probably getting the 15”, but seems like it kinda defeats the purpose of getting an air. The 13” seems so much more portable. Anyone use logic on the 13”? Is the screen too small?

I don’t know, what you are doing music wise, but for me: I use an external screen for working with creative software. For Logic it’s ok, when you are sitting outside your apartment and want to snapshot little ideas on the beach. But when you’re on a desk, you will go crazy, when using AU plugins and resizing your tracks and open and closing your plugin surface all the time again and again. So for indoor it’s better to use the largest screen you can. And if you are additionally using other creative software like Adobe’s, you will definitely need a bigger screen. Your eyes will be happy 😃.

I had a MBP 13” once - and subtiles in movies simply got too small, in my humble opinion. So I’m very happy with this MBA 15.3” 👌

If the 13 inch is anything to go by, it should be able to do the same as the 13 but for a little longer due to a better cooling solution. I would say it’s fine, but you might need more ram .don’t take my word for this though

@INSIDE DA LINES I was looking at the 15in for editing to but with the specs I was wanting. I was in the macbook pro 14 territory so I might go with that. My guess for the 15in it will be good for light editing.

@INSIDE DA LINES so the 14in m1 Macbook Pro is a little slow at 16 gb? I've seen that Apple gives slow ssd speeds for the base storage which can in turn affect ram usage. Could be the reason or do you not have the base model?
