I get a ton of requests in classes to stretch out hip flexors, specifically the psoas. My friend, Ashley, asked for a 15 minute flow she can do everyday - here it is!!
Stretching your psoas will help relieve low back pain and reverse some of the effects of too much sitting, running, or stress. The psoas connects your spine to your legs by attaching to the lumbar spine through your pelvis to your femur. It's also connected to your diaphragm through fascia and affects your breathing. It's often called the "muscle of the soul" because when we're stressed our flight and fight response naturally tenses your psoas so you can run away from a lion, even if your stress isn't physical.
Be sure to engage your navel toward your spine throughout this flow so you can access your psoas instead of dumping into your low back.

this is probably the best yoga class-EVER. HELEN CLOOTS YOU ARE AMAZING! your channel is what got me into yoga and now I watch your classes and practice yoga at least twice a day. thank you for all of these amazing videos i have never seen such great yoga classes all in one place. This was my first practice with you, my mother in law recommended I check out your channel. I’ve been focusing on running and slacking in yoga and this is the spark I needed to get back into a regular practice. I absolutely loved it - the poses, your energy - everything! 🙏🏻

Me this morning: gee, I really wish I could search yoga videos by pose because I want to do half-frog but don't feel like creating my own sequence this morning. I decide to try one psoas video after I warm up on my own, and this video of your's pops up on the isde... I switch to this and... voila! Half-frog! You've made me smile once again.

Hi Helen Could you make a 30-40 min video on psoas and also the same for IT Band. Psoas is 15 min long and IT band is 60 min long.. Too long and too short. In between would be really useful❤.. Lots of love as usual (and gratitude) Priya

Thanks for this! I'm working on releasing my psoas because they're kind of tight. I feel it especially when doing hip extensions. I should include Bhekasana in my practice.

Great video. Infact thank you for all the videos u post. Following all of them I just wanted to know if some yoga asana helps better with pigeon pose. I always get a cramp in my right inner thigh when I do with the left leg. Any suggestions ?

Hi Esha! Thank you for practicing with me! You may have extra tightness in your right thigh (could be quads, hamstrings, adductors, or abductors) - what if you try doing it on your back instead? Lay on your back, bend your knees so your feet are on the ground, and cross your left ankle over your right thigh. If you can go a little further, reach behind your left leg and draw it toward your chest. Let me know if you have other questions - Helen@FloatingYogaSchool.com

how are you able to get your knees together like at the start without trying, if anything mine goes in the opposite direction

You can try to bring your feet closer or further apart to help your knees coming together, and don't worry too much if they don't. Our bodies are all different, and instead of forcing them together, see if you can find a position where you don't feel like you're working (that might be with your knees far apart and that's totally cool!).

Pidgeon pose, I feel the stretch 95% in my glutes , 5 % in my hip flexors , is that how it's supposed to be?

Hi Chris! Yep, pigeon gets into your piriformis muscle, a deep buttocks muscle that works on hip rotation, so it's normal that you feel it in your glutes. It may be that yours is really tight and that's why you're feeling more glutes than hip flexors. Thanks for practicing with me!
