After university, she plans to work in the legal system, specifically in a role where she can help women leave domestic abuse situations and offer a meaningful impact on their lives.

🛎UPDATE SEPT 17/2018 (1 YEAR LATER): I caught up with the winner over email🤠
Carolina is now in her 4th year of her Bachelors in Sociology degree at the University of British Columbia. Since last year, she has: completed more courses, started volunteering as a youth facilitator and as a co-ordinator for an organization that aims to improve conditions for the homeless, was accepted into a specialized program for ethnographic research, and has had the opportunity to see how her studies apply in real life by visiting safe injection sites with her class. She is still aiming to become a judge one day, but has also expanded her aspirations to include becoming a law professor. While she’s not 100% sure where she’ll end up, she continues to work in a field she is passionate about and we wish her all the best in her career and her future! 📚❤️

“I've completely pivoted my intended career path. I thought I wanted to create change through law-making, but I've come to realize that change must stem from various sources. In figuring out the best way to 'fix' policies, data/stats is a must. So I now have my eye on becoming a health policy analyst or maybe even an epidemiologist. In my fourth year, I wrote a 16-page policy analysis on Vancouver's opioid use disorder policies. I did an internship in the health field and by the end of it I returned as a volunteer. I also began volunteering with seniors, so that I could get a more well-rounded view of the limitations of the Canadian health care system. I'm hoping to get a job in the health care field before applying for a Master's degree in Public Health.”
