Thank you Kate for validating me. I have too many rich friends who do all of the things you have mentioned. I of course can't or won't spend my hard earned money in these ways. I own my home, I'm single, and I did it for myself. It wasn't easy for me. I had no catch phrase business that I made millions from. I simply worked a regular job. I was married for a short time and have two children that I raised in addition to maintaining my life, I did not drive the pretty cars, have the pretty clothes, I do my own nails, fix my own hair and face. One more thing... I buy my makeup at the dollar store, for what you spend on one item even at Wal-Mart you can have everything you need, and my rich friends don't know. So, again thank you!!! Edit: I am now retired, life is good and I'm still frugal. I now have the pretty car... Because I saved for it.

@@KateKaden , I must admit that I have been lucky in my life, I once bought a car at an auction, it was a used Honda Accord, it had been seized in a drug bust, it had just over 2,000 miles on it, it was like buying a new car. While it looked a bit rough it drove like a dream. Recently it was stolen, all the thief wanted was the gas, he punched a hole into the gas tank and siphoned it out. I'm thankful the car wasn't completely ruined, and that it was found, I can still fix it. I look forward to your future video's, blessings 🐝 Oh, one more thing, "life is better when it is simple." Less stuff means more life.

I'm not a huge fan of buying clothes or furniture. I used to like it, but my goal is to get my life down to a backpack within the next 5 years, so that's a big one for me. Congrats to Kaden on his graduation and coming birthday!

Kate, I ain’t got time for ironing 🤣. When I was a teen my mom tried to teach me to iron. When I asked why I had to learn she said “what if you marry a man who needs his shirts ironed?” I just told her then he can iron them... 🤣 Fast forward a few years... I married a contractor... he rarely wears dressy clothes. Was that on purpose? I’ll never know 😉 hehe

One thing I do is "stretch" my laundry detergent. I buy my favorite laundry detergent (Gain or Tide) and use 1/3 cup of it and 1/3 cup of baking soda and that detergent has lasted for months and my clothes are bright white.

I no longer buy dishwasher soap I add 2 tbs baking soda and 5 drops of plain old blue Dawn dish soap . I have never had a problem with suds . I fill a small bottle that has a old fashioned eye dropper top and as long as you don't out over 5 drops it is fine . My dishes never have spots they are clean and I don't use the heated dry they air dry .

Things I don't spend money on: 1-paper or plastic dishware/silverware/cups (I have a dishwasher); 2-paper napkins/towels (we are a cloth heavy family),3-new cars (My current 2010 only has 65,000 on it, no plans of replacing it anytime soon. When I do, it will be another lease turn in with low miles. Let someone else eat the depreciation, and no car loan to bother with),4-coffee from a coffee shop (although rarely we will go out for bfst and eat in), 5-name brand dish detergent (I find that the $1/50 oz La's amazing does the job just fine, thanks), 6-lots of skin products and make up( I have always taken good care of my skin, thanks to cystic acne starting at age 12. Daily sunscreen, light moisturizer, etc. Face powder, blush, mascara, eye liner, lipstick. I'm done. NOt fancy brands either . 7-Cold cereal (for health reasons, I've stopped buying cold cereal. Bonus: our milk consumption is way down. I am on a medical journey, much of it surrounds finding the correct eating plan for me to deal with 3 medical diagnosis) 8-Canned beans (again medical issue as well as economical. I am now low sodium so buy the bags, cook them up in a crock pot, bag up and freeze) 9-A ton of (altough cheap out the door) cleaning products. I'm simplifying many parts of my life, including my cleaning arsenal. Lemon oil and a flannel rag=dusting. Home made all purpose cleaner out of Dr Bronners (lasts me over a year for a large bottle) for kitchen, baths; home made isopropyl based cleaner plus T shirt rag=windows/mirrors. Baking soda to scour. My home is ubber clean, and done so cheaply. 10-Dryer sheets (read up on what they coat the dryer and your clothes with)-using up my last box, and turning to the 2 huge wool dryer balls I got (like new) on Freecycle. I also line/clothes horse dry when I can. 11-cute little note pads-I use all sorts of scrap paper before it gets recycled 12-the heat dry function on my dishwasher: I just open the door, allow to air dry 13-new bed linens or bath towels. I divorced in 2012, taking 50% of the marital possessions with me. A list of needs and another of wants was created. I fulfilled the lists by turning to the second hand market and stuck with neutrals for towels, knowing that I'd be renting for at least 5 years. I've scored like new LL Bean flannel sheet sets (we have a LLB store here) that must have been returns that were then donated to a local thrift store. $8 for a Queen set. Thud! I'm toasty warm w/o paying a ton of money. 14-trash bags. I am required to bag my trash, so I use every possible bag that comes into the home: the water softener bag, the ice meltchips bag, the catfood bag, store bags. I refuse to pay for something just to toss it. 15-pump soap and body wash-again for health and economy, we moved back to bar soap exclusively. NO plastic pumps t o break, no refills to buy/mix up.

I actually stopped using dryer sheets when I found out how bad they are for my towels and clothes. As long as I don't leave my laundry sitting in the washer for days (ew) I never feel the need to add perfumes and chemicals to my clothes. Turns out dryer sheets make towels less absorbent. Who knew??

Oh and YES on not wanting to be connected all the time! I have all notifications turned off on my phone besides text and phone calls. I minimized my phone by putting everything in folders and moving them to the second screen. I have do not disturb set to automatically turn on at 9 PM and not shut off until 9 AM. I deleted all social media apps from my phone and I only add them once every week or two… It takes 30 seconds to add it back on so you can check your stuff and then I take it back off. It SO ANNOYS me when the people in my life are glued to their phones and social media is a big culprit. I finally realized the only person I can control is myself, so while I can’t unfortunately force my family members to stop playing games on their phone or using social media all the time, I can set the example and do so for myself. I long for the days before the smart phone honestly.

Denise Kiser same here except with a 2009 Toyota Sienna. We did buy it brand new but we paid cash & didn’t have any debt. I always drive my vehicles into the ground. My last car was a 2 year old used Chevy cavalier (don’t buy them they completely suck - overheating issues) that we babied 2-3 years longer than they apparently last. We got about 8 years out of that car - 10 total because we finally stopped trying to replace the thermostat and just took it out. Which meant no overheating but also no ac or heater... in Oklahoma & in the winter stopping every mile or 2 to scrape off the windows or at least clean the fog... because no defrost either 😝. My Sienna we take great care of & trying to get at least 20 years or more out of!!!

For face oil cleanser and moisturizer I use organic, cold pressed, extra virgin coconut oil on my face to remove dirt and makeup if I used any for the day...wash out while in the shower and dab a little bit on my face. I have saved tons of money!!!

Stephanie D I wish I could get away with $10 Walmart sunglasses. However since I’m practically blind, my prescription sunglasses lens would crush them. 😱 So instead, my RX sunglasses are a few years old & I really only wear them when the tinting on my regular glasses won’t work (spending day outside, driving towards the sun, etc).

WOW! Great Video. I am 54 and haven't ironed in the past 10 years or more. No plants, no gardening. We are in an apartment and considering buying a condo, because of low maintenance. He has a flip phone and I have blackberry. Like you I have no desire to always be connected. There are days that my phone is hardly used. Between my hubby and I we pay $50 a month for both phones. We live very simple and debt free for the most part. I have no desire for high end make up, I get most my make up with a coupon or at the Dollar Tree. (they have E.L.F. Brand) We do buy good sneakers because we feel it is worth it. However usually I get 1 pair a year and he buys a new pair every 3 years or so. Like you we don't feel or have the need to keep up with everyone else. It is so freeing when you don't have to stress on paying bills or wonder where your next meal is coming from.

I love your videos and your sense of humor, you are like fresh air, always smiling, been positive and connected with your life. Your videos always make me smile and relax. I don't spend any more in napkins, paper towels, crakers, salad dressings, catsup, mouthwash, plastic bags only in bathrooms, brit scotch fiber for dishes I swap them for sisal fiber are ecofriendly and cheaper, in general I try to give up on processed food. I no longer buy magazines I read them while Im waiting in line at the supermarket lol, I preper my own coffee, no sodas, no juices at all, my shopping list in my phone, no need for new apps or watches, I only spend on sunscreen, moisturizers for face and body, my vit A, vaseline for my feet, and in make up only replace my babylips Lip-Cheek and rimmel and ready to go. Sometimes I relap in simple things but it counts the intention to do it better. Greetings from your mexican twin sister. Kaden is growing. Happy summer !!

No ironing for me either Kate! Same goes for gardening, wipes, fabric softener, apps tanning products or tanning beds, or paying for hair removal(anymore). Many years ago in 2009...I did invest in laser hair removal and it has saved me so much time, money and pain. It was money well spent.

Oh Kate, you are a woman after my own heart! I don't buy expensive sunglasses, either. Day before yesterday, I drove off from the gas station with my sunglasses on the top - I took them off to see how to put the gas in the can I use for mower gas. About a month before that, I sat on a pair in the front seat...grrr. My watch is a cheap Timex Indiglo that's supposed to light up when you press a button in the dark so you can see the time. That part gave out two years ago, but my watch goes on ticking. I don't buy nail polish nor have my nails done. I like the clean look of plain nails on me - it's okay for others, just not for me. I rarely buy any new clothes. I get most everything at Goodwill, church thrift shops, etc. I did spend $125 (yikes!) on a great pair of shoes nearly five years ago and they feel good and still look good. I rarely buy books although I love, love, love to read. I use the library because I like to hold the book I'm reading. I rarely buy cologne or perfume opting to ask for it for Christmas from family if they ask me what I want. I don't own a Swiffer. I use an old fashioned dust mop, regular mop, broom and vacuum for the floors. My best friend buys white potatoes (one at the time) wrapped in plastic wrap so she can nuke them in the microwave. WHAT? She also buys already cut up apples for her dogs in little bags instead of cutting one herself. WHAT? No wonder her grocery bill is high. There's probably a lot more that I don't buy, but these are things I thought of just now. I love your channel. Diane in North Carolina.

I only use the dryer very sparingly in the winter months, hanging clothes to dry makes them last so much longer because i buy ethical quality clothing and need it to last our family as long as I can to prevent extra waste hitting landfills - my power bill stays super low as a result! We cut our own hair for the past 10 years (family of 6) drive 1 vehicle, meal plan, use discount codes whenever possible, regularly change insurance and other policies to get best deal, plan our trips to save on fuel and use reusable wipes for my twins in nappies, love being frugal, just a way of life! #mortgagefreegoalsimcomingforya

I don't get my nails done, 2 haircuts a year - and no hair dye, no tanning, hardly any makeup, I maybe spend $50 a year on shoes. Simple. I'm not a girly girl and fussing over my hair/makeup/clothes all day every day sounds like torture. And it saves me money, lol!

No makeup, no tanning. I work in a courthouse so I have to look semi-presentable 😂. I do use Sally Hansen Airbrush Legs in the summertime so I can go without hose. I wish I could dress down every day, but I can’t. However, I utilize Goodwill, consignment stores, local and online, and have found some really good deals to get nicer clothing at cheaper prices.

WATER!! I never buy bottled water, I feel it's such a waste of $$. I can drink filtered tap water for free, and one of the rules of my life is to "never pay for something that I can get/use for free". I don't buy dryer sheets or fabric softener either, I use vinegar it disinfects, softens, & removes stains from all my clothes and it's dirt cheap too. Bought a 2 pk of dryer balls for $2 from TJ Maxx a couple of years ago, they eliminate static cling from my clothes, make them soft and fluffy, & reduce drying time! 😃

Hi I’m new here!I love your videos. I am from New York. I am kind of new to a lot of the KZfaq world. I have been working towards saving money and enjoy watching and listening to what others are doing. I appreciate how “real” you are. I also don’t spend money on a lot of what you mentioned. I think I’m low maintenance and I’m ok with that. Off the top of m head, I don’t spend money on expensive toilet paper and I’ll use old fashioned clothes pins to close chip bags instead of fancy bag clips. Thank you for your tips. Also your son is adorable and I also have a July birthday and our teachers (way back when I was in school) never did anything for summer birthdays so I think that’s great!

Kick out the dryer, and go for fabric softener and a clothing rack! I have never owned a dryer - even when I had small children. It dries over night in the bathroom, with the underfloor heat. Keep a big bottle of vinegar - it cleans everything from the cat toilets to difficult spots on the clothes.
