1884 Singer sewing machine it had completely seized up and needed to be restored . The original video was 35 minutes long, I had some complaints about it been too long so this is a shortened version of it .if you'd like to see the long version I'll leave this up . while I was at the museum looking for at a lamp to restore , I got a ladder and climbed up onto a mezzanine floor that had been up to for years and found half a dozen sewing machines, Plus some other cool old stuff .The museum staff didn't know there were there.
I was originally going to do just a repair and clean ,but through my own fault ended up having to do a complete restoration .
The process took me 3 months while I was doing other Restorations as well
I delivered the sewing machine back to the museum, and they were delighted with the restoration .
thanks for watching, If you like that I do restoration for free for Museums hit the Supper Thanks it helps to pay for the next restoration

My grandmother and then my mother had a singer machine but slightly larger size and heavier. It was exactly similar design but they added motor in it to work with both electric and hand. It was in my family until 2004 when we immigrated out of India. The machine was in family since 1950's however the machine was made in India in 1940's during British rule. I still remember it worked like smooth with such perfect synchronization. My mother misses that machine lol.

Probably a universal icon, I think the next Voyager they sent into space they should have a Singer machine on it instead of a gold record

We still need things like this around. Who knows when power will go out for a long time? Antiques, especially restored ones, may come in handy some day! I enjoyed watching this one! Back when these were built, they were meant to last, even becoming family heirlooms. Today's products are designed to fail after a short time, which is annoying.

My great grandmother of 93 in 1965 told off how she would ride in the wagon while turning the handle and sew my great grandfathers shirts I don't know if she was bragging or not you have felt the heft of that put it in your lap and try to sew something while bouncing up and down swaying side to side.

Hi Pete thanks for sharing your story, I don't think my wife would sew my shirts in the back of a wagon with the sewing machine,

I did put it in the description and also in the video why I had to take the base coat off. just in case you missed it it was because I had forgot I had it soaking for two days it was only supposed to be for an hour When I took it back to the museum, it was way better than they were expecting

Зачем оригинальный орнамент испортил? Надо было осторожно. Теперь эта машина не представляет исторической ценности.

It had no value sitting on a shelf where no one can see it, yes I did make a mistake but I rectified it, and interestingly it is sitting by another unrestored sewing machine and everybody complements on the one I restored.
