Hello lovelies, I recently discovered the brand Tangee when I was doing my research and got so excited when I found that you can still buy this brand today. Tangee Cosmetics started in the 1920s by George William Luft. The name Tangee came from the word tangerine because of the color of the brand's most iconic product, the Tangee natural lipstick. This lipstick is still a hit today because of its color-changing ability. It perfectly compliments the wearer's skin tone, transforming from a tangerine color in its lipstick tube to a unique shade of rosy pink.
Tangee's marketing was targeted towards women who wanted a natural-looking alternative to other heavier lipstick shades on the market. The iconic lipstick was also heavily marketed in World War II as being the perfect shade to compliment a uniform. During the 1940s, Tangee was featured in Vogue Magazine and became a popular cosmetic line for both adults and teens. Although Tangee is best known for its natural lipstick, they also came out with other lipstick shades like the popular Tangee Theatrical Red. Tangee also developed an entire cosmetic line of blush, foundation, mascara, and more.

@@darlingmoon003 Damn that's a blast from the past! I remember my father telling me stories of my grandma and her 'Majaddiction'. >.< Soap, spray, compact, talc, loose powder she had it. Only problem is, dad's an asthmatic when he was a kid and it triggered his asthma when he smells that stuff.

How funny! I can remember going to one of the movie houses...we had 3....and they had this machine in the women's bathroom. It had things a woman might need...such as feminine hygiene pads, brow pencils AND you could get a Tangee lipstick for a quarter!!! I was very young....maybe 10 or 11...and somehow I ended up with an extra quarter....I bought that lipstick and spent the next few months trying to hide it from my parents and the other 9 kids running around! LOL What a great memory! Thank you!!!

@@sharonhughes2377 We're the same age...I bought some Tangee lipstick about 8 years ago in Vermont. I enjoy it because it is just so easy to apply and wear. We used to go on Saturdays for lunch at Woolworth's in suburban NY, where I grew up--cheeseburger, fries, and a Coke. I recall the lipsticks were just piled together. Wish they were still around! I remember my great grandmother having a little tin of rouge on her dresser, but I think it was a bit more dark. Funny to think she probably had it since she was a young woman. No one worried about expiration dates back then. lol

I bought the lipstick and blush from Vermont Country Store a few years ago. I’ve about run out of them. The lipstick is a pretty rosy pink and lasts on lips for hours. You don’t even feel it on the lips. Blush is great and really saturated color and no loose flakes at all. I bought it for nostalgic reason because my older sisters wore it. Ended up loving It!

When i was a little girl in the 50s i drove my aunt crazy for lipstick so she bought me the Tangee in WoolWorths. I adored it and it smelled so good. I am still at age 74 a huge fan of it from the Vermont Store. I also love Lilacs and Roses body powder by Landers.

I remember it from my childhood As a child I would save up and buy something from a pharmacy in my neighborhood in Greenwich Village named Avingnone’s and there was a famous one on 8th Street that is still there today. I bought Evening in Paris , Madam Rochas and Femme, Chantilly.,Kentucky Blue Grass , Jungle Gardenia, Bal du Versallis , Imprevu, Couer Joier , Arpege, Tigress, Lamaint, , Joy, Mistoukou,Worth,Charlie , Windsong,,Tweed,4711,Maya and White Shoulders. Hi Laura, Tangee was the first lipstick my Mother allowed me to wear,it was sold at our local Woolworth's,it was in a gold tone metal case.I felt so grown up.I loved the smell and taste of this lipstick too,I wonder if it still smells the same ? My parents got me a blush, the lipstick (it turns hot pink for me 😂) the perfume (it’s my everyday scent, it’s so lovely) and a lip plumping gloss (probably a modern product but it works!) I love their products so much! I’m glad that we got the Vermont store catalog in the mail! I recommend that people look at their site, especially in the beauty section, they have a lot of unique items!

I used to live near the Vermont Country Store and would buy their vintage cosmetics. If you haven’t looked at their other items too, check them out. The store itself (there’s two locations) is just fab! I can spend HOURS in it. Much to the dismay of my husband. LOL. I love the Tangee changing lipstick and its neat to see the actual vintage items you found.

My Mom talked about Tangee when I was a kid. As a teenager I had that first lipstick you mentioned. It was sort of like those "mood lipsticks" that came later and that I still buy from Amazon. That one powder container with the bold swirling graphics looks classic art deco style. Because of that I would date it to the 20’s or 30’s. That doesn’t narrow it too much, but at least it’s a range.

My mom and grandmother used to use this! I never bought it because I bought Cover Girl and Maybelline by the time I was old enough to use make up. I saw an add for another type of make up and it reminded me of Tangee. I rarely use make up and when I do it's usually tinted moisturizer, some blush and lipstick. I didn't know that Tangee had face powder, blush, and purfume, my mom and her mother used just the lipstick. Thank you I loved this video.

Vermont Country Store sells Tangee cosmetics. I’ve used the lipstick, second tube almost gone, and the blush. Love them both. Lipstick stays on a long time, and is moisturizing. The blush is densely packed and lasts long too. It’s time for me to reorder.

I only own two tangee products one is the tangee rouge its the small black quarter size rouge and I also have the red majesty lipstick in the brass tube not the plastic. Can't remember if it's the Tangee lipstick or Yardley lipsticks the daughter took over the company then she let it go and the jello company took the inventory and they promoted if you mailed 5 jello labels to the jello company they would send you a lipstick in the mail. I wonder if they still have lipstick as dead stock. Keep up the good work Laura I get excited every time you put out a video lol.

My Mother used Tangee lipstick. I loved getting into it as a little girl because the taste was delicious. I could eat it. It colored differently from in the tube. It looks orange but does change. On me it was pink.

I have some tangee lipstick.. its expensive, 15 bucks a tube but its very hydrating and they make a nice gloss too

I guess the lipstick and blush works with the pigments in your skin to change the color I'm going to try it and get me a set

I bought some of the Tangee lipstick awhile back. It turned a raspberry pink on me. NOT a good color- I'm ginger, and that was soooo not good! I gave it to my blonde roommate, and it looks great on her.
