I always get a chuckle out of the old D6 and D7 tractors. The D6's have a 6 cylinder while the D7's have a 4 cylinder engine.

Fun stuff! I'll probably never own a caterpillar. However, the guys on here make watching videos about them fun!

Early Cats with the old-style lettering hint at a certain elan' the later machines don't quite have. In 1929, there were still men making a living on the farms as mule skinners.

At 1:29 you can see one of the coil springs that it uses in the front instead of a leaf spring. Apparently, they use a coil spring on either end of the cross member. I happened to watch another video about a Cat sixty after this one and it was very obvious on that one.

These big CATs remind me a lot of the Chelyabinsk S-60 and later S-80 and S-100. Just like the CAT they had also applications that could be added.

I once ask the "Historian" when Caterpillar stopped installing the traverse spring underneath the engine and used all "hard bars". They could not answer. It had to be around the time Caterpillar began to make blades for the front of crawler tractors. Reckon Squatch253 would know?

I was kind of hoping he would pan over to see what that put-put sound was. My guess is a John Deere tractor.
@kylechrist
@kylechrist Жыл бұрын
It was an unstyled John Deere B as that's the feature, there will be a lot of put-put tractors this year

Nice 60!! I wonder if the shaft on the back might have been for a cable blade??? Small drum would fit right in there.. thanks for the video!!
@kylechrist
@kylechrist Жыл бұрын
Typically a blade would have a clutch setup as well as the drum but I'm not sure as Sixty tractors are not my specialty
@GosselinFarmsEdGosselin
@GosselinFarmsEdGosselin Жыл бұрын
@@kylechrist yes, but what did they do on the early stuff?? Only other thing I can think, would be a belt pulley, it's a little tight, but looks like it would fit 🤔
@kylechrist
@kylechrist Жыл бұрын
@@GosselinFarmsEdGosselin I'm not sure and I don't want to tell you wrong, if I had to guess I would say it was more than likely a belt pulley as the engagement lever is back on the unit, thanks Ed
@ironman3406
@ironman3406 Жыл бұрын
@@GosselinFarmsEdGosselin probably a belt pulley - one of our sixties was set up for a blade and it’s got an early cable control unit on it

The dozer cab looks to be made of wood.
@kylechrist
@kylechrist Жыл бұрын
Yes, the early cabs were wood from the factory

@@kylechrist It seems like a wood cab would get shaken apart. Is there any data on how well they held up?
@kylechrist
@kylechrist Жыл бұрын
@@timothyreed6054 they have steel reinforcing in the corners and mounting areas, as for how they hold up, the weather does more damage from them sitting outside. I believe that Sixty still has the orginal cab but I will ask the owner this weekend 👍
