Rare All-America Football Conference season highlights for the 1947 Los Angeles Dons. Charles Chaplin wrote the script for the 24-minute video featuring owner/actor Don Ameche, quarterback Glenn Dobbs and many other stars of the old AAFC. I've seen posts that say this was written by Charles Chaplin, the actor - not so. Charles Chaplin was a newspaper man who worked for the NY Giants in the 30s, was part owner of the Detroit Lions in 1940, and did the PR for the Dons

Is it written by the Charlie Chaplin or is Charles Chaplin a different person. This is awesome. Love nostalgic pro football.

The Charlie Chaplin! I believe that the he and the owner/actor Don Ameche were good friends.

I believe that the Charlie Chaplin wrote the transcript for the video. He was a friend of the owner, Don Ameche, also a Hollywood elite actor.

The AAFC came along about 5-10 years too early. If they had started in the early 50's the presence of TV could have made it successful. The AFL got off the ground because they had a TV contract with ABC.

Don is a Spanish title of respect given to important men.

@@scottstevens9533 -- No. In Spanish-speaking countries addressing a man as Don so-and-so is a gesture of respect for him; it has absolutely nothing to do with Italian mafia bosses.

@@gregb6469 they’re clearly derived from the same source. Did you not know that Spanish and Italian are both Romance languages? Anyway, it was just a joke originally.
