I show you how to remove paint using a pressure washer, scraper and wire wheel. I also remove unnecessary wheel spacers to prevent damage to the differentials. There are sections that could be considered Automotive ASMR, LOL!

I've scraped a few vehicles over the years. Mostly when I was a teenager. My dad would paint them for me. That's going to be a neat Jeep when you get it done.

Most of my experience has been chemical, sanding or blasting. I was griping about the crappy paint jobs but it sure made getting it off a lot easier than I thought it was going to be. I think it'll be pretty cool. It just needs some TLC.

@@ozarksethic I used some type of gel to blister paint and took a 76 Buick Electra down to bare metal once and my first pickup was a state dot truck. I sanded it by hand and dad sprayed it with Rust-Oleum gray. 3/4 Dodge manual with a granny gear. I loved that old truck.

@@PineyWoodsHomestead we used aircraft paint remover. Works well but is pretty powerful. I may buy one of the wet blasters for the metal tub on the other one. They are cheap and no hood required. I've spent way too much time in 90+ degree weather under a sandblast hood. One of my first trucks was a 66 chevy that was a phone company service truck. Took the service bed off and put a welding bed on it. Left it drab green but put Lincoln Mark 4 power seats in it. It had a 327 with a Weiand 3x2 manifold, Hooker headers, and a 5 speed we adapted to it. I drove that in HS until I blew it up...

@@ozarksethic sounds like a fun truck. I can't remember the exact year of my old goat but it was 80s something with a 318

@@PineyWoodsHomestead It was a lot of fun until I punched a rod through the block when the oil pump quit... It had a .456 rear end and I used to pull 4wd trucks around the mall parking lot. LOL! Guys thought their 4x4 was invincible. The weight of the bed with a welder on it plus low gearing and WIDE rear tires gave me a lot of traction. Plus it wasn't jacked up 4 feet off the ground.

Wow, what a monumental project. Those wheel spacers are not only detrimental, like you mentioned, but the farther out those tires are the worse they throw mud and cow patties. Those wide tires aren't much good for anything but looks and sand. And, as I'm sure you know, don't last as long as regular tires because of the less PSI on the ground, doing a lot more micro skidding. I remember you normally carry an OKC model 1. I have a lot of knives I rotate thru but that's what's in my pocket this week. I noted this morning I think we also carry the same little flashlight, a Streamlight...mine's a microstream. I'm curious what steel is in your OTC, is it D2? Thanks for saying VIN, instead of "VIN number". People saying "VIN or PIN number" drives me even more insane than I already am. 🙂

LOL! That's like Hot Water Heater or Pre-heat your oven... I carry a Microstream with a lithium rechargeable battery and yes, my RAT is D2. It's a royal pain to sharpen but keeps an edge. Though I use my Leatherman for the dirty work. The thought of all of the stuff slinging off of the tires is what made me find the spacers. I was looking at how wide the fender flares would need to be. I may keep this one as a toy but plan to restomod the other one with stock wheels, the hardtop, etc. Not being a long-term Jeep guy, I don't know how they are going to handle, alignment problems, etc. (other than my experience in the Army and they were different beasts than these) I plan to add swaybars to the '74 since they didn't have them from the factory. The '80 has one but looks like it might have had 2 originally.
