It's funny you mentioned your car cause I sold my 65 2+2 in order to pay for some of this build. I bought mine back in 86 for 500.00 and never put it on the road, The only thing I did to it was washed it once then stored it till I could get to it. Well 29 years went by and I figuredII had better start on the tear down or sell it. I guy offered me 10,000 and I let it go. It was then I realized I'm a truck guy to sell a car like that. 289 c4 . Well I just went for a road test. It drops the rpm 500. That is only going to improve gas mileage, so it's starting to return some of the money you invested in it. What I don't like about it is the shift is kind of on the harsh side. You defiantly feel it when it shifts. Kind of the same feeling of a turbo 400 with a good shift kit. I tried doing 1/2 clutches when shifting and that smoothed it out. I also feel a bit of a torque flex in the drive train now when it shifts into overdrive. It is almost cantilevering 40 inches from the cross member mount now. You probably won't feel this flex the same cause you don't have transfer case on your C10. What can I say. It's great having the extra ratios now, but it's at a price. Depends on how badly you want something ? It also increases your trucks value, and may be a selling feature .

I find I get about 1-3 miles more depending on the grade and load I'm carrying . Its a 307 so its lacking the toque where your 350 would probably benefit more with the GV overdrive . Its also better for climbing hills where you have a gear in-inbetween . Keeps it in the power band longer. I heard a rumour they were going to discontinue the adaptor for the 208 so you might want to check into it before you don't have the option anymore ?

I was wrong. It didn't even change the pinion angle. It was so easy to shorten the driveshaft too, and it's as smooth as before.

I'm finding it harder to get off the couch these days and get on these projects I have. The only way they get finished is ,……...if you start . Good luck on your project

One of the better bolt ons I installed in the truck. Great on the hwy. You have to always remember to disengage them before going under 30 mph or it's hard on them. Change the oil every 3000

You don't need to rebalance it if you do it right. It's as smooth running as before and was easy to do

Maybe so, but if you cut the yoke off like I did, cut the driveshaft squarely and mark the placement of the balancing weights with where the yoke was …then there shouldn't be any reason to be vibrating down the road. It should run square and true if you did it right.

Like a high performance automatic transmission , the overdrive unit also has a hard shift when the gear vendors is applied.. This is a good thing for strength and reliability , but it can make your dentures fall out . Other than getting use to that ,....its the way to go for a combination like the one I have .The space between 2nd and third was way too steep .Now the GV unit keeps the engine in the power band longer and brings the revs down when crusing on the hwy . Any device that saves you money the more you drive helps to justify the purchase price of the unit.

Square Body Chevy Overhauls has it put any noticeable wear or strain on the transmission/t-case housings and motor mounts? And how many miles do you have on the unit?

Too early to tell at this point cause I haven't put more than 1000 miles on the unit .

Joe Emmerich according to the manufacturer, the overdrive is locked in direct during 4wd operation

It was just hanging there and I was trying to tip it off without it dropping on the ground . No big skewer job this time around. Maybe next time ? Ha!

I haven't had the need to have under over gears in 4x4 mode . I can't see how one would need all those gears when your usually driving slowly

@@Terk131 It was a big bill , but I like the truck and want to keep it . Now its much more usable on all grades and the rpm drops 500 on the hwy . Yes I'm glad I installed it . You are suppose to change the oil in the unit every 3000 miles

@@squarebodychevyoverhauls6982 are these overdrive/under drive units still available? I need one for my 1980 Bronco, 331 stroker. Strange 9” rear, new Revolution gears 3.73 front/back, TracLok rear LSD, PowrLok LSD front, BUT my NP435/NP208F combo leaves me wanting more gears on highway.

I want to keep it a standard, and stock. This truck build has been pretty much modified stock. My other K20 is a automatic. Nice having both.
