1989 Toyota Pickup 4wd Rusted/Broken Frame - So Rusty!

I bought this 1989 3rd gen Toyota Pickup Truck 4x4 for $500. It has been siting for 5 years in Ohio, because the frame rust was unsafe for road use. The rusty frame is one of the worst I've seen yet. The frame is rotted so much that it's beginning to fold and the bed is resting on the cab. The bed is so rusty that I touched the rear corner and by hand went through. The truck's 3.0 v6 and R150F manual transmission/transfer are going to be used in our Gambler 500 vehicle. Any good parts will be pulled from the truck and stored in the warehouse. Then the rest of the truck will be going to The Shop Spot a.k.a. Mikey's, where we'll try to get the v6 running before disassembling the rest of the truck. I'll have a few videos on this 1989, but it's not going to be a long term project - it's beyond saving :(

The vent mirrors were a $60 add on my brother purchased a 93’ last year and it still had the dealer tag and everything that shows how much everything past base model costs.

Yeah, saw a guy in Alaska that had a 3rd gen with wing windows. I specifically asked him - yeah factory direct. I have factory power windows & locks.

Vent windows I wouldn’t say are “rare” but maybe uncommon. My dad had a ‘92 2WD Xtra cab that had them. My ‘94 doesn’t but I’ve seen ‘94s and ‘95s with them so they were offered the entire run

This would certainly make a good engine transplant for a Toyondamino/ Wierdmobile and well worth the 500 bucks for engine and box.

Just found a rare 1985 4x4 with good surface rust frame but the body is 1/3 as bad as this truck. Won't pass smog and burns oil. I'm not sure if it's worth $7k. My body and paint guy says it might be $15k of worth. Any thoughts on if I should pull the trigger or just let it go?

Are you planning to restore it and flip it or use it as a truck and keep it? Are you in California? Strict emissions but more rust free parts available in that area. Around here there are plenty of good engines but no rust free parts. Figure engine rebuild plus body/paint work on top of the $7k, is that worth it to you? If sr5/22re it will be worth more because 85 was the only year with solid front axle and fuel injection as an option in the USA.

www.toyotafiberglass.com/ makes fiberglass reproductions if you're up for a drive to Canada. Or just keep an eye on marketplace. Probably some decent ones avail on the west coast once in a while.

Are the 84-88 and 89-95 ifs the same parts? I know the rear leaf springs are a couple inches longer on the 89-95.

Road salt is part of the problem. What is far more corrosive is the liquid brine solution that they spray on the roads before icy weather.

👍 right on... We got it just for the trans/traansfer figuring the 3.0 was bad and a 3.4 swap would be in the future.
