This is the "new to us" truck that came from the auction. Its got lower miles considering its age, and the truck runs well. Its primary use is just for container moving. The truck ( for now) has seen its last days of highway use. Maybe after its all fixed again we can put it back in regulation. But for now, welcome to the dirt ole girl! Thanks for watching guys. Sorry for the slow uploads, but not very much car inventory has come in the past few days. Maybe tomorrow we will get something good, if not, we can do some walkaround or general work vlogs. But thanks for watching none the less!

Sounds like she has the DT 466 Engine in her. No matter what you try to do to that Engine, you just can't kill it. Tons of fun, and loads of power.

garthks ridiculous. Water pump failure iminet on that piece of shit when you really need it most. not good when you lose all your coolant on the side of the highway 1000 miles from home.

DTA-466 engine! 466 cubic inches of fury! getting low on fuel, whatever you do don't let it run out of fuel!! they airlock and won't self prime, you will have to crack every single line to get the air out. that is one of the last mechanical fuel injected DT engines in 1994 they started producing the electronic unit injector fuel injected engines. pulling that big black knob cuts off the fuel.

That big black knob that you pulled out to shut down the Engine is actually the Fuel Shut off valve.

garthks I was about to say since when did diesels have chokes?
@garthks
@garthks 6 жыл бұрын
Diesels have never had chokes, there is no need for them. There are no Carbs on a Diesel Engine to have to choke down the air flow. Not all diesel engines have the fuel shut off knob on the dash either. To my knowledge, and please correct me if I'm wrong, but I do believe that only the International Diesels used the fuel cut off knob to shut down the engine. I drive 2 different School Buses at my job, which are both powered with Cummins Diesel Engines, and neither of them use the fuel shut off knob shown here to shut down the engines, you just turn the ignition key to the off position, and the engine shuts down on it's own.
@xNYCMarc
@xNYCMarc 6 жыл бұрын
garthks Yes, I'm aware of that. I was being sarcastic since when he started the engine, he said "make sure the choke knob is pushed in". Mack trucks also used a red shut off knob. I have 3 "R" models that all have them.

Grew up driving these trucks. We have owned them from the early 80s models all the way to 2000 models. The only thing I’ve noticed is the air conditioning systems are absolutely prone to Freon leaks!

With automatic transmission that's ideal for yard shunting work. As somebody below said a bit of love from a big hammer should straighten things out enough to get the drivers door to shut. I suspect though that if it's going to go back on the road it's probably going to need a replacement cab to pass the relevant tests...

Man that dash looks like a old 96 era bus dash. I think it was a blue bird or a thomas. Do they use same parts across the different companies or was the dash replaced later on in life? Even the alarm sounds the same for the low air pressure. And i don't think it has power steering since our district's 96 bus doesn't have it. Anyway nice vid and keep up the good work!
@gosportjamie
@gosportjamie 7 жыл бұрын
+Christopher Rae I believe a lot of Bluebird buses were built on International chassis so a lot of the buses will share a lot of parts with International trucks of the same period...

Christopher Martinez No, no "kits" that I know of, but I've seen a lot of guys take these big cab trucks and go shopping at the local junk yard or at the salt truck conversion place. One of the best conversions I seen was a late 60's early 70's International Harvester with what looks like a Chevrolet bed on it, it matches the cab lines almost perfectly. Look at my Pinterest under truxx and COE. Best,
