Ignition switch (not the lock cylinder where the key goes) the ignition switch is a little black box under the lock cylinder. There’s another video on here of a guy that had the exact same problem and replacing the ignition switch fixed it. The ignition switch controls a lot of things you would never think it would like the torque converter lockup solenoid. The switch runs $150.00 to $200.00 at auto parts stores.

this is the kind of thing I can't stand. mechanic shop that can't repair the vehicle the first time. I'm an ex mechanic, retired.I took pride in my work, and was proud of our shops reputation. I only had two comebacks over the years, and I remember them. embarrassing, and easily avoided.

I fixed our truck for about .50cents. The trans fuse inside the fuse panel had no power to it. I found a seperate open link that had power when you turned the ignition on. I made a short jumper wire with a fuse link in the center. Plugged it in the open link and the other end to the bottom side of the link that said trans. When i turned the key on it sent power to the trans. The tach worked and the transmission works fine. The fuse was not sending power to the selenoids. Hope this helps. It worked for me. This has been a notorious GM issue. Our truck had it a couple years ago. Is transmission REALLY dead on us? You couldn't go above 30 mph. One day I went to start it and the speedometer was completely off the dash. Then we decided to fix it. We had to get an entirely new engine. Our pickup is at almost 3k miles but it still runs like it's brand new. Obviously, it ain't as fast as it used to be but, it's still in a decent position. All it needs now is a new power cable. Then we're gonna paint it its original green color.

I have a 95 s10 pickup. It's not slipping yet. But it's vague, sluggish, very delayed (will not shift until around 4000 rpms unless I REALLY baby it), and over all disassociated. I changed the fluid about 3 weeks ago and I checked it yesterday (engine running hot and idling). The fluid is already black. I don't have thousands of dollars laying around for a rebuild or replacement. Is there anything I can do to make the old thing last a bit longer until I can afford a new car?

Definitely get a second opinion ,but check the transmission sensor to see if the sensor is the problem. Also some of the sensors worked on vaccum. I'm not sure about that one ,but if you have a vacuum leak it will not shift.

The wiring harness going to ur key switch sounds crazy but will fix it

Check for a bad connection on the ECM, under dash on right hand side.

It's a 4 spead automatic transmission. There's no such thing in chevy in the 1985 to 2003 where stock automatic transmission ever had 5 speeds. You need to also check your cvt relay. Cvt relays had a bad grounding and were recalled for it

Check solenoids in transmission. 4 gear is overdrive it doesn't kick in till 45-55 mph and does not fully lockup till highway speed

Is the wine power steering or trans

I don't know if there's actually an overdrive I think it's a three speed with overdrive

I have a similar problem in 95 Yukon 2 door model, after rebuilding the trans in few months the exact same issue like yours with extra 3 things, the shifter light is off, the rpm is not working and the speedometer is not working too. Amazingly I had to take out the battery for recharge and when I first put it back in, every thing was working properly as normal but only for few minutes it went back to the same issues.The mechanic who had rebuild the trans said its an electrical issue all from the get go, just confirming my doubts about it with the battery thing. Any thoughts please ????

sounds to be valve leaking or soilinoids are bad which will cause transmissions computer to act up or the transmissions computer is bad. I noticed that it whines too could also be leaking valve

Does yourvalve body have the correct check balls in the proper areas? They determine where the fluid goes and how it shifts.

4th is overdrive, could be a torque converter not locking up or you TCC LockUp Solenoid is bad or failing.

I know this is a old video but there is just about 100k Master mechanic/ transmission builders in the country license people just can't rebuild properly anymore

almost sounds like it's going into limp mode...often caused by bad ignition switch or other wiring issue.

Is that a 4x4??.ours is and doesn't shift while in low range but does in 3 wheel or 4 wheel high. What the f??

4th is overdrive “Upshift down to third”

My cousins truck once it got up to temperature it wouldn't shift but when it was first started about five miles or so it would shift into overdrive but after he got it up to Temp it would not go into overdrive again

My brothers 95 had the same issue and a ripped wire right by the ecm

I have a 95 c1500 and mine just randomly shifts, it has trouble shifting and has high rpm, we've changed the transmission and the vehicle speed sensor and it's still the same, any thoughts? Thank you in advance

It could be your throttle position sensor on your TBI.

Theres only 4 gears in a 4l60e transmission and they are 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and over drive. That's it when you were in the 2000 rpm range at 50 mph you were in 3rd

4th gear on that transmission is overdrive it’s a 3 speed automatic with 4th overdrive does it have 1-3 or 1-4 on what gear it is in on the dash what’s it say PNRD321 or 4321

Check ur main ground coming out the main harness let me know if that was ur problem

its the ignition swith its send low voltage to the tourqe coverter causing it to not shift own its own in over drive replace that and it will fix your problem

for the volt meter issue you said you had. it’s not an issue, i have a 96 silverado and it does the same thing. even after a new alternator. it will always do it. just an old truck thing.

look up on youtube, "96 chevy c1500 transmission" the top video is what you want. he's says it's only the 96 model but I am having the same problems. he talks about a jumper wire for the computer. idk if yours has a computer though just trying to help man.

Replacing an ignition switch might help. Also check the spark plugs because spark plugs lead to ignitions, motors, and the engine. As an expert like my father and how Iman engineer I hope this helps
