What was wrong with the housing? Why not replace the vac actuator and the switch?

It seemed the only thing replaced was the housing and not the actual actuator.

Mine failed, was letting oil past my o ring on the vacuum actuator. Found out it was the housing after I replaced everything except it

My same thought is to why you only replaced the housing and the hardware but no information about as to why you reuse the switch and the part the vacuum lines go to and the collar part I would imagine thats stuff would need to be replaced or at least some information on how to know if mine are still good ?

Any chance the connector to the switch is sold by you? I had the wire break and not enough space to solder securely

hi how are you.? I wanted to ask, my truck has the 4wd light always on even if the 4wd is not activated, what could it be?

I bought the housing. The actuator doesn't fit in the housing without drilling it out which in turn makes the actuator loose in the housing. You can review the video they show him inserting the actuator but not seat it in the housing. They actually skip over that and just show him with it seated already. They used to sell a complete kit with the housing and actuator and gaskets but it has been unavailable forever.

When you removed that housing cover fluid came out, differential fluid I’m guessing, how did you get fluid back in? Does the gear oil move down the axle shafts? Just don’t want my shift fork and new pads burning up against the metal collar

Just remove the filler plug at the front of the differential cover, and top it off.

A real mechanic .even though didn’t replace any part that needed replaced . Would have cleaned and at least wire wheeled the old parts and made sure they worked properly that would have at least gave the customer a little of worth for the money spent come on really given good mechanics a bad rep hate to say if you where one of my employees you just got fired i expect way better out of my people but thats just me good video all in all it shows how to do it

The diaphragm, the main failure point on these gets re-used? How does the housing fail unless it’s cracked..Total waste of time if you’re not replacing the most failure prone parts…

That hose in the front the big one where does it connect up too? Mine came unplugged at the top somewhere

It's a breather hose, it's supposed to be open to the atmosphere.

What liquid is that coming out of the axle when you removed the actuator? I would like to do this repair but can't seem to find what fluid that would be? Do this then drain and refill the front diff? Is it that gear oil?

+FastSlothVideos Thanks for watching! That would be gear oil, and the type that you would use should be in your owner's manual. You typically will not lose too much, so most times you do not need to top it off.

Is there any way to test and see if I need an actuator? My truck isn't shifting into 4 wheel drive and I'm curious if this is the problem

This is probably a vacuum issue. The actual mechanical assembly is pretty sturdy, but dodge retardely decided to actuate a mechanical assembly with a vacuum system. Check out the Posi-Lock 4WD upgrade kit to get it working again.

@@MJ-uj3lt I have 2002 dodge ram 1500. When I shift out of 4 wheel to 2 wheel it feels like it's not fully engaged into 2 wheel drive. As I drive I feel and hear a winding kind of sound. The sound and feeling is not prevalent in 4 wheel. I'm assuming it's the actuator or is it the vacuum?

"Original four wheel drive actuator".....pretty sure Dorman isn't OEM....and of course the new one matches the old one, it's the same manufacturer....

Nhelp 1995 dodge just bought no fron axel engage looked at actuator found disconected and where that connection is on the left side there is a bolt screwed into that connection also where does that large vac, line connect under the hood I think there is a line under the hood disconnected from some where and it is plugged

You know I really love your videos, especially since I have a 2001 Dodge Ram and a 2011 Fore Escape, 2 viricles that you showcase in your videos. However, I wish you would cut out the "yo do you, bobo" and the whole vericle thing. I assume 1 Auto: is a professional parts company. Well when the technicians don't come off as professional it does hurt your channel.

Well ill be dipped for how rusty those bolts looked they sure did easily come off all four if mine snapped right off and had to use an air chisel to separate it from the axle hmmm
