That's a Double, Double Cardan shaft. Glad mine has only one! Thank you for the video, this will save me a lot of time. I did one years ago, but forgotten which order to rebuild.

Interestingly I'm doing u joints on my 1972 caprice and it has just 1 double Cardone at the rear diff your video saved my ass because all the other kids with double Cardone had a removable ball that goes in the socket first I thought my ball might be stuck on the drives haft apparently it does stay on the shaft during install ill try it tommrow I bought entire new assembled Cardone assembly with 1 joint already installed came with 2nd one the spicer sealed type you were talking about being rusty mine are great. Anyway I do know from past use of those greasables that they snap easier with torque and traction and they need to be greased every several thousand miles.

Damn, i'm glad I watched this! I was just about the tackle the u joints on my 75 CDV, and didnt even have a clue about that center ball joint. Gonna be ordering parts for that now too!

Thanks for posting. I'm checking out my drive train as I was starting to feel a slight wobble and have the double cardan on my gmc sonoma. Unfortunately everything popped out of the ball seat on disassembly and I wasn't quite sure of the order of reassembly. Thanks for showing the reassembly. I have done the job once before however I didn't make notes and the instruction sheet has no diagrams. Good news is I don't need to take the ball off as it is still in round. The first time I did this the ball was pear shaped and was difficult to remove without the proper tools. I'm hoping the other cardan at the differential will be in just as good of shape. I think the wobble is coming from a defective carrier bearing.

@ImpalamansGarage Thanks again for the video I got my 72 Caprice driveline together today and installed. Have not drove it yet . well see how it goes, as bad as all 3 ujoints were I am shocked it was so smooth before i took it out to work on it. I started to get the single gentle clunk when put in and out of gear those joints were the original from 72 still had the injected plastic internal rings. Its a 400 SB , comp cam 268E with home ported polished stock iron heads some old school internals my dad always ran. TH350 with a shift kit that was done in 1975 LOL with a 3500RPM stall coupled to 308 rear makes it a very well rounded street highway cruiser the 400 has the gusto down low and decent top tend performance typical Edelbrock dual plan with 650 ABS 2 carb perfect size for Cam and intake profile. I have being going back through it lately - refreshing entire drive train- suspension stuff brakes etc. I am now mocking up a new dual 2.5 ' header back exhaust the old setup finally began to show its age and rusted through I am doing a in front of rear wheel under back door side dump. its a 4 door hardtop car. I love the look. people thought I was crazy for fixing up a 4 door in the mid 90s now its a rare gem even more so now because most of the full size B body cars are turned into donks., what a shame. I appreciate the video, Would have been nice to see you remove and replace the ball itself. I got a 68 electra and the ball is trashed. The kits are not availlable, but I can machine a new ball; just can't figure out how to remove the old one without destroying the assembly. Any ideas?

Ive got a question about centering ball. There are 2 springs. You've installed one but whats about the second one?

do this ball seat kit fit my -66 cadillac deville? i also have the double cardan setup and some owner before me installed u-joints it looks like, but i have play in the center ball area it looks like and vibrations + sound. i suppose it can give me this problem if its worn?

I had 2 drivetrain shops in Vegas tell me my U joints were fine. That was until I put the Caddy on my own lift and showed them the play in one set of them. It was clicking for years. I posted a video about that. Wasn't much play but enough to cause the noise. When I showed one shop that, they said " that's not right ". They installed new u joints and now the car shakes at 70 mph. Said they balanced it too. We only have " top notch" mechanics here in Vegas, lol! Don't believe what you see about them all being a genius on those reality shows

Man that u join rebuild turned into a bear. The HD u joints are non greessable because the cross drilling weakens them. I doubt this will be an issue for you. Your neither rock crawling or drag racing in that classy caddy.
