Funai is definitely notorious for mode switch issues

The sensor issue is due to dirty prism light guide, it also a common issue.

I collect vcrs/DVD players and VCR DVD combos from eBay, but I'm very picky about what brand to get, because I only like certain kinds!

The reason why the vcr eats the tape is the mode switch may be dirty oxidized or may be out the alignment take it apart every vcr has a different way to get the mode switch you remove the screws that holds the vcr drive and if you can't get take out all of the screws and flip the board over and keep the eye on the screws some screws may be hidden on the ribbon cables my son worrying about ribbon cables that break easy so he will be extremely careful and after you get all of the screws the vcr drive will lift up and clean the mode switch

My aunt took to a thrift store once, and I bought 8 vcrs!!!!!!

It's the mode switch on the 3rd it needs cleaned I have cleaned a few of these now and honestly I have gotten pretty good at it. The first time I did it it wasn't easy but I have had so much practice I can take one a part fairly quickly now for how much of a pain it is.

You sure have bought the Funai and Sylvania if cheap as they go for fast $120 if you clean the mode switch which is a common issue with them and usually sell fast I sold a few within hours better then some of the higher end deck I have. Yes cheap cost cutting they did on them, but they are reliable once fixed and people buy them. I would have even bought the symphonic VCR as minimum I get is $50 without remote and with get about $70 with remote clean condition and I charge extra shipping. I sold last one within 15 minutes of listing it after servicing it and most within hours. I sold 15 of them in a month once. Literally can put a much better Sony HiFi VCR and sit on it for weeks to months at same price. I don't get it but I go for and service what sells.

The VCR DVD combo on the bottom looks like my grandpa's before he passed away on 2016. :(. We still have it and it's going to be my sister's when she gets her new room

On the 2nd one it can be the mode switch. One person's combo did that same thing, cleaned the mode switch and it fixed the symptom.

Keep up the good work my son knows A lot about vcrs then anyone you have one working but it turned off about apploxxlity 5 seconds so work hard on that and 2 of them need to be repaired mode switch may be oxidized clean the mode switch and clean the sensor and mess around with it until you fixed it when you fix it you be so happy stuff breaks sometimes

I've seen the Funai as Magnavox and Sanyo. Still have the Sanyo. Waiting to stumble across a new head for it

omg everyone knows that if you take your finger and make the film tighter it will not get eaten and the rad video info speeds yea there are yes 5 speeds first the vcr has ep sp and Lp and the dvd can record 2 speeds for recording and there are your 5 speeds
