Gear and tackle links below When it comes to river fishing, there are only two techniques that I typically employ in early season: blade baits and pitching plastics. These both work extremely well in the deeper water that pre-spawn fish tend to prefer. If you can learn how to use this one-two punch and learn it well, I guarantee you will catch more fish in the early spring on river systems!

I just recently found you while searching for pike fileting vids and am already in love with your content. Got any tips for those of us that don't own a boat?

Awesome! Thanks! Yes, fish current. Current is where it’s at when bank fishing. Fish river bridges, neck downs, etc and you can almost always catch some fish.

Great information on techniques and equipment as usual. Are you familiar with the eyecon series of walleye rods from St Croix. Thanks again
@calebwistad

Thanks! Yes. The Eyecon series is great. The ML fishes more like a M and the action is just a hair slower on the Eyecons compared to the other series, but as long as you know that, you’re good!

In Ohio during the spawn Walleye moving up the river you can only use a single hook. Have you ever removed the treble hooks an put a single hook on with any Luck ? We can also only use a single hook thats only 1/2 inch form tip to shank/
@calebwistad

Hmm. Interesting. I would guess you could definitely catch them on blades with single hooks. Never tried it though. Obviously the jigs would be ideal.

Why do you not use a lighter braid line like 10lb ? Thanks

In dirty water stealth is not a concern. However in the old Mississippi, losing $8 blade baits is. 😆 also if I hook into a big flathead or a sturgeon I want a little more oomph to get him landed quickly.

@@calebwistad this has been a messed up spring so far can you explain with low water how fishing corners meaning is it better to fish fast water or slow sand bars after watching this video last night I did catch two. first time using jig with twistertail
@calebwistad
@calebwistad 3 ай бұрын
@@wilber7193 With the low water I have found it's better to fish current, more specifically, where current meets slack water. Fish will always hold on these "seams" but it appears to me that in low water they stack up on the edges of current even more. That can mean the end of a wing dam, below a sandbar, or around the end of a point. Anywhere there is something to block the current, get on the edge of that structure and if it's deep enough there will likely be fish there.
