This is your first look into the InsideRide Emotion Rollers vs TruTrainer Smart Load rollers. In this video I am going to talk about the differences between the InsideRide emotion with the smart resistance unit and TruTrainer smart load power roller. I will talk about the design, specs, the ride feel, and how they perform in sim and erg mode.

Great review! I've been on a rollers journey too... I started with some dumb aluminium rollers. Then added some magnets to get additional resistance - which worked well, but limited flywheel effect! Then got some Elite Neros. These were great at first (especially being interactive on Zwift), but managed to break / wear out 2 sets (Elite were great and changed / refunded me). Then bit the bullet and went for the TruTrainer smart load. Wow - absolutely amazing. Was thinking about adding some kind of fore/aft platform, but having ridden them don't think there's any need to. With the large drums, it's really comfortable when out of the saddle, can do sprints (maybe not flat out

Have also had insideride rollers for over a decade:) - Just added the power unit, and it has been a great experience and more comfortable than a direct drive trainer

Another great review! I have both InsideRide eMotion rollers and a Wahoo Kickr. I use the Kickr for short, demanding intervals that require the trainer to make sudden resistance changes quickly, as the InsideRide is too slow in adjusting for that. I use the InsideRide for longer intervals and rides because it’s so much more pleasant to ride than the fixed Kickr. Love being able to stand and sprint out of the saddle on the InsideRide thanks to the floating mechanism; doubt you could do that safely on the other rollers (and I’ve owned multiple sets of standard-design rollers such as Kreitler).

Agree, the motion on the InsideRide makes it easier to ride. I also didn’t have issues sprinting or getting out of the saddle with the TruTrainer but I also don’t consider myself a sprinter. Thanks for the feedback and watching 🙏🏼

Hi Tariq, thank you very much for making the comparison video of the InsideRide E-motion smart rollers and the TruTrainer smart rollers. I bought the InsideRide E-Motion smart rollers based on your initial recommendation and love them as my sole indoor trainer except for the low flywheel effect. My new project will be buying just the three TruTrainer drums (front, middle, and end/smart drum for $1317 total on their website) and modifying my InsideRide sled with TruTrainer drums using the existing InsideRide front wheel bumpers. The only piece that requires real modification is the middle stabilizing bar of the InsideRide rollers holding the two halves of the rollers together. I will also need to elevate the InsideRide roller slides to accommodate the larger TruTrainer drums. The best of TruTrainer roller drums with the fantastic for-aft sled of the InsideRide. Hi, did you made mods require to accommodate the Trutrainers drums? I'm very curious since I inherited an Inside rollers, and I want to invest in a similar upgrade. Thanks

I also have the Insideride rollers which I bought in 2011. I have only just replaced all of the cables for the drums and flywheel and the ride-feel has been transformed. I am very much interested in the interactive add-ons, as I would like to use zwift or something similar. Perhaps you could talk about how easy it would be to get the device attached to my rollers? Oh, you forgot to mention that the Insideride rollers have resistance levels 0 - 1 - 2 - 3.

I would say yes. They have save me from falling many times. But I also tipped over in few scenarios :) I rode the InsideRide (my first experience on rollers) for about 4 or five years and I would say I tipped over maybe twice. One was me trying to play Wii with my kids while riding and the other one trying to reply to a emails 🙂

Another great vid! 👌🏻 Dumb question, I have a fixed gear bike set up for climbing, would I benefit from these rollers with a fix gear bike?

Personally I don’t think rollers are the best tool out there for climbing because depending on the resistance and your gear ratio, you might feel the real tire slipping.

Great review! I've used the Elite Nero smart rollers now off/on for a year or two. For the record, Elite NERO also has fore-aft. Out of curiosity, where would you rank the Elite unit compared to these other 2? Thanks again.

Yes the Nero does have the fore-aft as well but doesn’t feel the same as the Emotion. I believe InsideRide license that to Elite but don’t have much details on that. I found the Nero to be slow to respond in erg mode and we are talking about 15-20 seconds. Not sure if you experienced the same delay with yours. But overall, I believe the build quality on these two is much better than the Nero and road feel is much smoother.

I really only ride the rollers in slope or resistance mode using my Assioma pedals as power source as ERG seemed relatively 'unpredictable' in accuracy and I also have had difficulty getting the NERO to pair as 'trainer' source on Zwift. Not a problem really when using XERT or other training platform.

Hi, very good video. I have a question. I am not interested in riding on Swift or using power, however I did enjoy riding my Kreitler 3 inch drum with a flywheel. Now I have 2 replaced shoulders and my control is not as good. So I am afraid of falling to the floor . Are the Ride Inside rollers enough of a balance control help that I wouldn’t feel like I may fall off. I have one or two times per session on my Kreitlers where I have to grab the wall to keep from falling off, but I really like riding rollers and don’t want to quit. Thanks for your advice, Dave

You still have to balance on the InsideRide just like you do on other rollers. It’s possible the extra motion might relive some of the pressure as I find riding it to be more comfortable than other rollers.

I've had the Inside Ride rollers for 2 years. I disagree with TruTrainer having an "edge" over the Inside Ride rollers. The back & forth, floating platform, that the Inside Ride frame has, is a far superior feature than the fixed platform the TruTrainer has. Although the TruTrainer has a little better momentum when coasting, it does NOT take long to get use to the stiffer momentum on the Inside Ride Rollers. The stiffer momentum makes you legs get stronger. After a short time, you won't even notice the stiffer momentum when coasting on the Inside Ride rollers. The optional $179.00 platform on the TruTrainer is not that good. The $179.00 optional platform provides such a small area for a person foot to be placed. You need to focus and place your foot perfectly, otherwise you will miss the platform with your foot. A person naturally spreads their legs outward when coming to a stop on rollers. Therefore, placing something OUTSIDE the roller frame, on each side, is a much better option than the optional $179.00 TruTrainer platform. Also, The front roller bumpers are standard equipment on the Inside Ride. The front roller bumpers are a $139.00 option on the TruTrainer.

Hi Tariq :) Another great review thanks! Two questions. 1.) i have the elite nero rollers and an external power meter (wahoo powerlink double sided). after watching this review i'm considering getting InsideRide or TrueTrainer rollers instead. I also use a Kickr Snap for erg. I like to ride the rollers for sim rides in Zwift or FulGaz. How is the power floor on either of these rollers compared to the elite nero? are they more quick to respond to erg changes? and would you say these are easier to ride than the Nero? 2.) power match. once you connect your power meter in the app when you go to Zwift do you select just the trainer as power source and controllable rather than indicate there that your power meter is power source? The ride feel is much better than the Nero for sure. The TruTrainer has a much lower power floor. As for erg mode, I would say the snap is a much better trainer for erg training than any roller on the market. But for sim riding, or manual structured training, where you switch gear yourself to reach your target watt, the insideride and trutrainer are great for that. Personally I used the InsideRide for all my structured training where I manually controlled resistance for many years. As for power match, yes, you can pair your power meter as power in Zwift and roller as trainer. Hope that helps.

@@SmartBikeTrainers Thanks Tariq lower power floor sounds good :) you mention in the review you'd go with the Tru Trainer... does the forward back motion of the Inside Ride make it easier to roll on or will you get through that learning curve pretty quickly and the Tru Trainer roller momentum is a better ride overall?

When I’m not testing trainers, I’m generally on a Kickr or Kickr ROLLR.

What about sprinting? I have the inside ride rollers and have had them for years. I got them for $500 off craigslist but I was shopping for both. I've also had, some cheap rollers and tubo trainers and then the kickr and kickr snap. The snap wouldn't work when I rode for long 300 watt intervals. the power would drop. i got a free upgrade to a kickr but didn't keep it. inside ride is great, and if you say the other one is better, then I have to take your word for it.

If you are happy with InsideRide, I would stick with that… as for sprinting on rollers, that takes a lot of practice and faith. I’ve seen many riders do it but for me, I find myself sprinting a lot better on stationary trainers than rollers. But I don’t consider myself a sprinter either. Hope that helps!

The InsideRide is a MUCH better product. The InsideRide Smart Resistance has an external power source. That is, it plugs into the wall. The TruTrainer gets its power from the motion of the roller(s) and the electric power generator is built inside one of the rollers. When the electric power generator heats up to a certain point, all power to the resistance is cut off and you will loose all of your resistance until the electric generator cools off! This will occur most often when you are at a slow speed and you are climbing (high resistance). At this point, the internal fan is not rotating fast enough to cool down the electric generator and therefore, you will loose all of your resistance all of the sudden. This problem occurs more often then one would assume while riding. This is why having an external power source powering the resistance is MUCH better than having the power supplied by a generator that gets hot and shuts off with no notice. Your resistance will never cut out under any circumstance when using the InisdeRide product. For this reason and this reason alone, the InsideRide rollers with the Smart Resistance option is a MUCH better product. I would not recommend the TruTrainer to anyone for this reason alone
