These are the Golden standard in rollers and are amazing! I’ve been on TruTrainer rollers for 12-13 years and never had an issue. Amazing build quality. Great review.

I've been using the TruTrainer Smart Load rollers since they were prototypes. Nothing simulates riding outdoors better than the TruTrainer rollers do. I'll have them for my entire life, so they are actually a great value.

Any chance you have a hint how to calibrate through the iPhone app? I’m connected and go through all the motions staying between 15-20mph for at least 5:30-6:00, and then accelerate to 25+ mph for the spin down. After allowing it to spin down, the “Done” box in upper right stays grayed out and un-clickable.

agree with the exceptional build quality and design ...i have the classic model myself; two aerospace engineers, both avid cyclists, designed this product ... hence, the tight tolerances

I was looking forward to this review and it did not disappoint. I love my Inside Ride rollers primarily because of the fore/aft motion. I don’t know that I could like these as much for that reason.

Hi Dwayne, seriously considering purchasing a set of the InsideRide rollers with the smart resistance. How long have you had yours? Any pros/cons you can share? Did you also get the floating fork? While the TruTrainers have a nice clean look to them, I don't see any benefit to paying $600+ more than for the full InsideRide Smart Rollers w/Floating Fork....?

Joseph, i’ve had my IR rollers for about 4yrs. It’s an older model and won’t work with the smart resistance unit. I love them though It’s the next best thing to being outside. Here’s a good review. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/e9ekd7Zp1qqvfX0.html Smart Bike Trainers has a good review too.

Dear Tariq, I subscribe to all the influencer KZfaq cycling channels and this was the video I have been waiting for (along with GP Lama’s follow up video on the Garmin Rally pedal’s firmware update). Your review on TruTrainer did not disappoint. Fantastic review! I sold my Wahoo Kickr and Elite Arion Digital Smart B+ Rollers to buy the Inside Ride E-Motion Smart Rollers primarily based on your KZfaq review of the Inside Ride rollers. I use TrainerRoad exclusively with my Inside Ride smart rollers power matched with Powertap P1 pedals. On the Inside Ride rollers I can coast on the rollers without pedaling for five seconds before I will tip over. Pez Cycling says I can coast for days on the TruTrainer after pedaling which would be fantastic so I can drink from my water bottle without cheating death. Please do a showdown comparison of all the smart rollers (InsideRide, TruTrainer, Elite Nero, etc) and specially address power matching and out-of-the-saddle experience. Yes, you will get more coasting time on the TruTrainer if no resistance was applied than the InsideRide. The flywheel on the TruTrainer is heavier and you will feel more momentum. Appreciate the feedback and will look into doing a comparison video. Thanks for watching 🙏🏼

Currently have inside rollers with smart unit, and i'm tempted by the Elite Nero, but wondering if they're an upgrade when compare to inside rollers. I prefer either inside rollers or elite nero to tru trainer due to the moving platform. The lack of the springs platform that allows back and forth on the tru trainer makes it a deal breaker (IMO) ...

Looks nice and that smart rear roller sounds amazing. I love the fact that it's self powered. I'm curious what you think of these vs the Inside Ride rollers. Great video as always!

Thanks Matt! I find The build quality and ride feel of the TruTrainer to be much better that the InsideRide. Also the integration of all components in the rear roller gives it a much cleaner look. It’s a pleasure to ride. Also this is quieter than the inside ride. However, I did miss the fore-aft movement you get with the InsideRide.

I’m 53 and have ridden rollers since I was 14. I started with cheap aluminum rollers, then to Kreitlers, and now to InsideRide smart rollers. After riding InsideRide rollers, I would never consider getting traditionally designed rollers again. I love the float, the stability, and the security they have that allow me to stand and sprint easily. I prefer my Wahoo Kickr for short, intense intervals, but the InsideRide is more engaging for everything else. Cool seeing this TruTrainer tech, though!

Great review as usual! My question is: currently on the inside ride Rollers which I LOVE (and a neo OG). According to you, what are the benefits of Tru vs InsideRide?

Outside of the fore-aft movement the InsideRide is known for, the main difference you will notice is the ride feel. The TruTrainer is much smoother and quieter. It doesn’t have that squealing noise the InsideRide is known for.

Very good Explanation Functionality of theses rollers. Were you able to record a reading on the noise level produce by these rollers (decibel)? Do you a video review on the 4iiii Smart Trainer?

The build and ride feel are like night and day between the two. The Nero is plastic but does have the fore aft motion which is the one missing feature from the Tru Rollers. Also, the Nero supports powermatch directly so you don’t have to rely on a third party app. It doesn’t make that much of a difference unless the app you use doesn’t support powermatch. That’s Assuming you plan on using Powermatch.

If the Nero is working ok for you, I wouldn't consider a change. But if I am looking for a new set of rollers, it would be between the TruTrainer and InsideRide.

In use a fairly cheep set for recovery rides and warm-ups at the races. I'd like to do more rode sym work but I just don't like how mine feel in that 2 and 3 hour range. How is long ride comfort compare and also how is out of saddle riding compared to cheaper sets? Thank you for the review!

It take practice to be on rollers for that length of time. The ride feel and momentum you get with a good set of rollers or trainers will definitely have an effect on how enjoyable and comfortable the ride is. As for out of saddle riding, i think it depends on how comfortable you are getting out of the saddle on rollers. I like to have a bit of resistance when out of the saddle and these rollers will give me that. I personally didn’t have an issue getting out of the saddle on these.

Wahoo is working on a rollers type trainer. Something similar to the Feedback Omnium. So not a full rollers but across between rollers and a wheel-on trainer.

For that price you get an indoor bike like the sb20 or wahoo kickr. Crazy price but super well made

Do you think that a fan directed to the rollers would help with the overheating problem ?

It might help. The air will have to be concentrated and directed towards the rear drum. Worth a try.

The calibration is only needed if you use the rollers as the power source right? If i already have a power meter do I still need to calibrate the roller?

That’s correct. If you have a power meter, then no need to use or calibrate the rollers’ power.

How would you compare these to the Kickr Smart roller? I know the kickr doesn't have power metering capability, but other than that which is better?

Both will need a power meter as I won’t rely on the power measurement from the TruTrainer. It is not accurate or reliable. The Wahoo ROLLR pairs to your power meter directly and uses it as its own. Meaning once you do the initial pairing, it will automatically pairs to your power meter and no need to pair your power meter separately to cycling apps this is better in a lot of ways particularly when using ERG mode. With the TruTrainer, you will have to pair your power meter to the app and TruTrainer separately and rely on the app to perform power matching and control resistance. I think if you like to do ERG mode workouts, the Wahoo ROLLR is the better choice.

Question 🙋‍♂️ I don’t Zwift or anything like that so the tru training roller classic have resistance I won a Kreisler 2.5 inch looking forward to buy a new roller inside ride magnet or tru trainer classic help me on my decision

The TruTrainer and InsideRide are both really good rollers. You will be happy with either one. The InsideRide will give you the fore-aft movement which I think adds so much to the comfort and ease of riding the rollers. The TruTrainer has a much smoother and better ride feel overall. Both are well built and will last you many years of hard training.

I have the dumb version of these rollers. I might upgrade to the smart load rear drum, but price is definitely an obstacle, especially considering that I do most of my indoor training with a Kickr. Also - $179 for the platform? Holy smokes, that's a rip off. I made my own using MDF and some nonskid plastic sheeting, which is held in place with contact cement. The functionality is identical, and the cost was only a few bucks.

Right, it isn’t cheap. I do find the platform to be a nice addition but I’m not handy like you are to make my own :) If your kickr is your main training tool, upgrading to the power unit might not make sense since the kickr is a much better trainer from erg mode and power accuracy standpoint.

Is the "coast down" time as long on the SmartLoad model as it is on the Classic model?

Thanks for review and testing, but honestly I don't understand the enthusiasm. The rollers are priced way above top of the line direct drive smart trainers, even not taking into account the ridiculous additional (albeit optional) 400$ for two skateboard wheels and a platform with functionality of two square feet of plywood. It cannot sustain 250W on low rpm-s and you had to decrease the "realism" setting to be able to ride smoothly. I kind of get the idea of making rollers smart and it looks like an okay attempt, but would you actually buy this for 2000$? 800 would be better value/price point imho..

There is a market for rollers and a good quality one don’t come for cheap. You can get ~$800 smart rollers but feel plasticy and don’t have the same ride feel. Thanks for watching 🙏🏼

Of course he wouldn't pay the price l, that's why he got them for free lol I have quite the training room and I wouldn't pay this price, I'd rather get myself a elite rizer and have another grand left over for other things

I agree the "add ons" are overpriced. I'd argue they should be included. But as far as the price of the unit itself goes, the QC and tolerances are unmatched.

Rollers just feel better and more fun to me. I have the TruTrainer classic with a power meter on my bike. I had a Wahoo Kickr prior to buying the TruTrainer setup. No regrets here.

Were those blue dinosaurs I saw at 7:00 minutes in that Zwift segment? How childish. That's partly why I don't use Zwift. How can one take training seriously while watching cartoons?
