I like the build, and the idea. I used a Geo Metro manual trans on mine, it needed reverse since it was more for climbing. Worked out pretty good, I was even able to use a centrifugal clutch to drive it, then just left off the gas to shift. Then was able to shorten CV axles for suspension, and rear steering.

The holes your pins slide into need to be curved slots maybe twice as long as the pins so you have a wide widow of engagement. Then you need to put a chamfer on the edge the direction of engagement. Look up Liberty Gears faceplating operation for some inspiration. I have it done on my five speed and upshifting is butter. Downshifting requires some finesse but whatev.

In portuguese Brazilian. Instale uma mola entre a alavanca e a caixa de marchas, assim ao trocar a marcha em movimento a alavanca vai até o final do curso e a marcha caso não se encaixe a mola vai fazer uma pressão continua até que se alinhe e a marcha entre. Congratulations man. God job.

A simple mod that I think would help a lot on your shift would be a killswitch on the gearlever, the momentary type. It would allow you to cut the ignition for just long enough to make the gearshift much easier. Works a treat on Dirtbikes so why not in this case?

I'm sure you have it figured out by now, but I would recommend putting a tensioner on the belt to act as a clutch when shifting. Put a pedal on the floor and lets pressure off the belt, causing it to stop turning (or at least slow down, shift gears, and release the tensioner clutch. Just my two cents worth. Great job young man.

One suggestion for the issue of having trouble getting it into gear.... use larger holes and make it a "dog box" essentially a transmission where you just have to be close to get it into gear... it will shift rough though

Make some more discs that float on your pins, and put friction material on them. This way, when you shift, it will slow down your jackshaft and allow the pins to mesh when you shift from neutral to gear. I see you have a belt drive from engine to your transmission, so just get a bigger belt and make a spring loaded tensioner that you disengage to make your clutch. You shouldn't need to disengage it to shift from 1st to 2nd, just lift when you shift. Great work! :)

That counter shaft is going to need bearings where each sprocket hub attaches. Can't have the un driven gear spinning without lube or a bearing. Might want to taper the holes in the plate to make it go into gear better.
@Iowa5995 жыл бұрын
Ever heard of "double-clutch(ing)"? That's what people did before synchro's! Up-shift: let off throttle with slight force on lever, pops-out, slightly press into higher gear, pops-in Down-shift: let off throttle with slight force on lever, pops-out, blip throttle, slightly press into lower gear while engine revs go down, pops-in (if you rev'd high enough) Use the clutch when you want to, but usually people do it when pulling out of a gear, and putting into a gear, but not in between. Hence: "Double-clutch" shifting. I tend to not use the clutch, at all, because I have driven several of my manual trans cars without any clutch, for over a month (total). (various failures: mechanical clutch failures, hydraulic actuation system failures, mechanical actuation system failures)

I really like your 2 speed idea. Make a disc brake to stop the shaft when in neutral. could you have used planetary gears out of an old transmission?
@akcustom78385 жыл бұрын
I dont think you will have any issue with top speed bro, I notice you have a torque converter on it all ready, I tinker with this kind of stuff some and with just some quick figuring you will go plenty fast. with the way your steering is and the seat not having much side support it will be kinda hard to control with top speed, I made the mistake once of building one, but my gear ratio was to the point it didnt even have the power to get to full speed with the engine I had, lol. but with your 2 speed trany I think you will have the power, lol I love this stuff, nice build and good luck man!

hmmm...I think Simpson may have a good point. It seems the pins may snap if they engage at all...and if they do you may have a case of whiplash. I've considered a similar (2 or more) speed setup using car Air Conditioner clutches and operated electrically. When the shift is made power, is switched from one to the other, making a smoother transition without doing anything with throttle. The Ford/AMC ones look like they might work.

As someone with a little experience with gearing without cluches, what you need is a gear syncronizer that will keep in pace in between shifting your selector gear also the pins were a good start but something that small is difficult to line up a couple hundred rpm try something with chamfered lugs that slide in and out of place easily and smoothly, wish ya luck though quite a engineered project i must say
@shanek65826 жыл бұрын

A simple way you could improve your design, rather than havign holes for those little pegs to slide into, bolt larger metal blocks onto the disks using the holes, that way when you shifted from one gear to another you would have some slop in the alignment that would make it easier to get into the next gear, so the pegs would push against the edges of the blocks, you could even use blocks on the inside drive wheel. It would sorta be like primitive synchro's lol. Awesome video by the way!

taper the "points" that interlock with the jackshaft and second gear. tapper them heavily on the very ends, but leave most of the "points/ fingers", idk what u call them. I am impressed that someone so young is welding but if you do not mind a little bit of Safety 1. you are welding on a wooden floor (Shed maybe) THIS IS DANGEROUS IF OIL OR GASOLINE should be spilled prior to any welding ir is a fire hazard. 2.It appears you are running flux core wire indoors PLEAS FOR SAFETY WEAR A N99 OR A N100 FACE MASK THOSE FUMES ARE DANGEROUS AT MINIMUM HAVE A FAN TO BLOW THE FUMES AWAY FROM YOUR FACE! Safety is no accident! Good luck with your build but I think you may have issues with shifting.
