Coconut oil is definitely not my friend, olive and avocado oil are bae!!.. Hair tip: be open to advice, but LISTEN to your hair!!

14 is ironic bc the natural hair movement was initially created for tighter curled naturals, so us accepting our hair should've been a given, instead we found ourselves a new hair insecurity (not having loose enough curls) and thus perpetuated more hair hate, that we are only now undoing.

One thing I noticed about all the 4c naturals I've seen here on KZfaq that have gotten a lot of length is the vast majority are obviously FIT! Considering how much obesity plagues the black community, I don't think that is a coincidence. As someone who struggles with building healthy habits guys, I KNOW it's hard as hell, but if you're serious about growing your hair out as fast as possible, or are at a length plateau, try EATING RIGHT AND EXERCISE REGULARLY! (If you don't already). What I think happens a lot of times when we eat too much crap is that our bodies do not get enough nutrition, and proper nutrition is necessary for healthy hair growth. It IS possible to suffer from malnutrition when you eat a lot of crap and/or are overweight. They call them "empty calories" for a reason! Limit the amount of junk food and processed foods you consume, drink tons of water, and MOVE MORE. Not only will you look and feel better all around, but it WILL help your hair grow faster as well.

STILL STRIVING I washed, moisturised, plaited and unravelled for life and I think that's actually what has given me single strand knots. I don't have a lot of split ends but my hair curls upon intake, I ended up cutting alot. I think I'll cut it down even more and start over. I've been natural for most of my life so I should've known better

I notice how confident and proud you are to be in your body ( with broady type - muscular arms ) I was just hoping you would make a video on how to be confident with musuclar arms . Meep A Cake This might seem simple but.. do push-ups, even if you can only do 5, do 5 twice a day, work up to 20. my arms never looked better than when I did push-ups. not overly muscular but toned and cut-like and I would always get compliments. i stopped and now they are back to looking skinny, yuck.

Awww baby! I danced for years, and when I was growing up, people used to say I was manly. I had abs, muscular arms, strong thick legs from dance. I used to feel badly because I thought I wasn't girly enough, I was too manly." But the gag is, a lot of the boys making fun of me ended up having a huge crush on me before I left high school. They liked that I was in shape lol. Being fit and healthy is NORMAL and GOOD. Don't let anyone make you feel you aren't pretty or desirable because you don't have arm fat! The only way to get over it is by wearing sleeveless tops, crop tops, or whatever shows off your arms. I used to be nervous about wearing sleeveless shirts because I had broad shoulders, but I got over it over time. Just go for it! Get used to owning your body in this summer heat

Guuurrl this video was definitely meant to be. I'm just starting my journey and I'm ready to cry my eyes out. I've been in braids for so long I forgot I had type 4c hair. Delusional! Thank you for sharing... *love* this video! I was guilty of SO many of those things in the earlier years of my natural existence. The biggest mistakes were heat (I flatironed aLOT) and not taking the time to learn/pamper my hair. Disagree about the Denman brush though - I LOVE that thing as it gives super-defined curls. I think persons make mistakes using it on dry hair - I only use it on damp to wet hair for FINAL detangling before twisting or for a wash n go. Happy to see a fellow type 4 sharing tips for gorgeous hair!

OMG! I am doing way too many things wrong. I play in my hair ALL THE TIME!!! The bonnet issue is so ME!!! And I wonder why my hair and ends look so ragged. Coconut oil and Macadamia nut oil doesn't work for me either. My hair gets dry and hard. This was a great video. Thanks girl!!

Im 3c 4a and girl there times when the 4 takes over! One of the problems i had was there weren't enough 3c videos for guidance! So i was following tips for 4c and couldn't understand why my hair was breaking off! Duh your hair isn't as coarse i said to myself. 3c tutorials don't style coarse enough so when i finally found combination videos i was able to take the best tips from each one now my hair is really stsrting to blossom and becoming more manageable. So i was feeling you when you said not to let the journey of influence my journey. Things happen in their own time and i truly love my hair now! 3yrs and counting. On the right path for 1+yrs. Keep on being real!

Love your hair and on screen personality. One of my mistakes was washing my hair too often/co-washing to often and thinking gel was the answer.

Thank you sooo much for saying that about the Denman brush! I almost bought one again AND plus I keep trying to comb my hair but my hair keeps snapping off. I need to stop. All the things you said are the truth!

Coconut oil does wonders for my skin but NOT my hair! My biggest mistakes were combing painfully through my hair with a regulation comb like my mom did when I was young (I lost soooo much hair) and right hairstyles and headwraps. (RIP my edges)

Coconut oil not only makes my hair brittle, it makes my skin break out as well. Keep that stuff away from me.
