Been restoring an old nissan 240sx for a while now experimenting my first time with painting with a sprayer, the cars paint was totally shot and had to grind it all to bare metal, used some speedokote trex epoxy primer through a harbor freight black widow gun and it turned out pretty nice once i got used to using the gun it actually sprayed the exact same as the expensive OMNI (PPG) epoxy primer lol, and it was also in pretty cold temps, gonna be spraying some of this same white single stage on it soon, the speedokote products are definitely the best out there for its price.

Looks great, and I love your attitude about fixing the rust on these vehicles. Too many people have gotten it into their heads that they have to put 40 hours of metal work into every rust repair, and shame paint and body guys for using fiberglass and filler to get cheap work done. On daily drivers it really doesn't make a lot of sense to to spend the time and money to weld in perfect sheet metal when it can be done with fiberglass in a fraction of the time/effort and still last long enough to out live most vehicles. If someone wants to pay the money for it, by all means do it right and give them what they paid for, but otherwise for superficial repairs short and long strand fiberglass filler is plenty strong enough to make cheap cars look good for a long time.
@speedokoterefinishnetwork49374 ай бұрын

Awesome job, huge improvement for the effort like you said! This didn't look like it had the typical peeling white Chevy paint everywhere. If that's the case is removing the loose stuff and sanding with 400 grit good enough or should it get sanded lower or removed before priming & painting?
@speedokoterefinishnetwork49374 ай бұрын
All we did was 400 grit the whole body. Tried to sand out as much of the minor problem areas we had as possible and spray it down. Even if it buys you just 3-5 years it's better than continuing to let it rot out

Bondo glass or similar product, is great. I use it to shape panels when doing weld on arches , rockers, patch panels. Then once i got the shape, finish with filler with a touch of resin added to make my own glaze putty. The fiberglass is waterproof and i feel it gives a more lasting repair👍
@BearBudgetTurbine4 ай бұрын
I should add for any paint police, I cut out the rust, weld in a patch grind and tap down weld seems, then apply fiberglass over an aggressive scratch and block to shape.
