yes. Most cars made by Kia between the 1960s and 1990s either had Mazda powertrains and designs or were simply rebadged for the Korean market. And older Kia trucks from before the 90's obviously have diesel engines made by Mazda. However, since the 2000s, the technological relationship between Kia and Mazda has all but disappeared.

2000 Kia Rio has a 1.5L 8valve engine, and the engine in the video is a 16valve mazda b6 engine, which was used in 1980 mazda 323

@@IllianoElite Any car from the early 90s or 80s. Some from the 2000s are easy to start without a key. 5 minutes with a $50-dollar cordless drill is all it takes. Or 5 minutes with a hammer. Kia is just made as cheaply as possible besides the engine and body. So, no immobilizer.

Mazda made all the engines for Kia's earlier vehicles. I remember having to explain to a customer that was upset with her car that she didn't have a Kia engine in her Mazda 323, it was a 1.6l Mazda BP engine pulled from a Kia Sephia which was essentially just a rebadged 323 with some style changes to make it look different for Kia. Early 2000's Kia's such as that Rio would have had a Hyundai engine when sold in the US but intl sales continued to use the Mazda single-cam/single port injection engines to keep prices down. It may have a swap from a Mazda but it's pretty much what it would have had from the start. Amazing video though my friend! Not at all trying to detract from it. Just helpful insight since Kia and Mazda had a fairly long partnership in the 90's

Kia Rios were sold here in the US, but they didn't last long. I owned 3 Hyundai's, which is the same company that makes Kia, but none of them lasted very long. Leave it to Africa (Kinshasa?) to figure out how to make them last longer! A Mazda engine swap! Very innovative!

@@Harsh_7. - one of my Hyundais lasted to 318K kllometers, but ALL of my Honda's lasted far longer. One of my Honda's I am still driving is at 380k.

In my family, we have owned 6 Hyundai's, all Elantras, but NONE of them made it over 200K miles or 320K kilometers. I have also owned 7 Honda's and all except 1 (my newest one) made it over 200k miles. One, my 2007 is at 240K and still runs good.

Its a common swap in iran too. the engine has the same mounting spots as the stock motor because the platform is the same. nothing too crazy about it. but put k24 in it. it'll get tricky

Christ haha I have this exact car as a daily driver in the Netherlands. Somehow it's stupidly reliable, it barely costs me anything in maintainance. It's built to last, even in a rainy climate it just doesn't want to rust

Kia and Hyundai used to get their engines from Mazda and Mitsubishi, it's probably original.
