2001 Chevy Truck Parking Brake Adjustment

Our emergency brake wasn’t working, so we decided to figure it out. This process is pretty easy once you know what you’re doing, and only requires one wheel to come off. It took us about 20 minutes to do.

If the hole is up, turn the star wheel up, if the hole is down turn the star wheel down - to tighten!

THANK YOU!!!!! I'm having the exact issues with my parking brake, it goes down and all and the cable shows slack when you look at it from the driver side, So I'll try this, but I'll defintely see if the parking shoes need to be replace as well. Thank You Again, even though I'm like 3+ years commenting on this video. Thank You!!!!!

Nice video. Not what I was looking for. The adjustment you made goes back to a lot of older vehicles. Have a 2004 Tahoe. You must know how fkn hard Chevrolet engineers made the parking brake adjustment to do. My 1998 Corvette is the same but it's ok for now.

Can't you make them self adjust by engaging the parking brake then reversing?

Where was the cable? How did you get it back in and how did you engage parking brake pedal without the cable being connected to drum???

At 2:04 you see it at the top of the screen. On the driver side it's located at the top of the assembly and on the passenger side it's on the bottom, or 180 degrees of the driver side as GM used the same part on both sides.

The only problem having his are not making it clear so on the driver side when he is going the downward position with that star adjuster is he tightening or is he loosening the cable he mentioned that one locks up in one doesn't so I'm not sure what adjustment he's making and where is he taking one side and loosening the other just not sure

He's turning it from top to bottom. The adjuster spreads the shoes apart so they will make better contact with the drum when the pedal is applied. It does not make any adjustment to the cable length or tension, so if you have a cable that is stretched it will need replacing, can't remember how many there are in the assembly from the pedal to the drums off the top of my head.

The adjuster on the passenger side may turn opposite (bottom to top) of the driver side due to the assembly on that side being the same parts as the driver side but 180 degrees or "upside down" with the adjuster port on top of the drum.
