My grandson was very sad. He has this auto with the exact problem. Some of the best repairmen and dealers said this is a DIY and it would be over $400 and take a week to fix. In fact my main repairman bought the hose $400 took 3 days to get here, then realized no T-connection. The car isn't worth $500. With your video it will be less than $5 and take about an hour. Thanks so much. You are my first subscription.

For starters, it really is fitting that an '01 Ford Taurus has a light that literally tells you you're screwed hahaha. Secondly, this is exactly what was going on with my car and it worked like a charm! Thanks for posting the video man, it saved me about $300 for parts and labor.

I had the same leaky hose nipple that eventually broke off. Lucky for me the rest of the hose was still solid, so I drilled and tapped the hole, added the air fitting and it was done. No leaks for over a month now. Thanks for the video, it beats spending $200 for a hose and it works just fine.

Just had to buy a new stat hose for the upper radiator here. Same problem, the seal for the coolant return hose broke off and below the hose it suffered a similar failure to what was shown.

Thanks for the reply! I removed the fuse box, then realized I didn't need to, so I put it back. Goofy-ass clamps for that fuse box - not too difficult to figure out, but harder than it had to be. :) I then looked at the battery and figured if I got that out of the way I could maybe get a pliers on the clamp. Got the battery out but the -tray the battery sits in has a higher wall than it needs and it was, of course in the way, so I removed it too. From there on, I was home free. Got it - Thanks!

Hey I really like your approach to problem solving. I was an observation/scout helicopter crew chief and then learned to fly them. By the way, that is not a screw in the light you were talking about. It does look hilarious though! That indicator light is for a missing or not properly sealed gas cap. It is part of the emissions system so I guess Ford felt it prudent to put in a warning light for it. Hey thanks for the great vids and the chuckle. Keep up the good work!

ok thanks man! I'm lazy and just want to drain and fill the radiator and not do a full flush. I think if you drain and fill enough you don't need to do a full flush. Thanks for letting me know it works though. Wanted to see if others have used it with success.

Just incase some here might not have access to a welder. A 1"x1"x1/2" black iron tee with a couple short nipples would do the same job. Then screw in the 1/2" barb fitting into the 1/2" side of the tee. Also, if you don't want to put the hose over the threaded part of the nipples, just cut them off using a pipe cutter of a sawsall with the nipples in a vice. Nice video Brian!

Nice video, but I was looking at how to at the pinch clamps that attach to the actual radiator. I have the entire replacement upper radiator hose with bypass "in hand" ($54/eBay), and need to get it installed. I just cannot get at that "front" clamp. I have removed the battery to get it out of the way, but there is still a wiring harness that is causing problems. Not sure I would even have clearance if I got the harness out of the way.

hey Brian, Just bough a new used Hyundai and want to change the coolant. What do you think of Prestone's "universal" coolant. My owners manual says to use basically any coolant you want so long as it works well with aluminum radiators/ cylinder heads. Just wondering what your opinion of Prestone's "universal" coolant is?

Yeah, my sister-in-law's '97 Taurus has really screwed us over. Coolant sludge and etc... I'll look for that icon on the dash!! The most bizarre car I have ever worked on. MY '88 T-Bird has had the same coolant fluid in it for 3 years and it still looks fresh. The Taurus fluid lasts maybe a month before it turns to sludge. Then the TRS went out--Thank God for Web Forums. The TRS is simply a stealership profit tool for those unlucky to have no skills.

Hey brian, did the owner of that ford use the proper coolant, because that could have been the cause of the plastic fitting degrading. If he is not using the proper coolant ,then he should expect more plastic fitting degradation to surface.

Locally they have issues with regional management such that the incentives programs create problems like in the Stanford Prison Experiment. The system is flawed. Employees could be wonderful, but subjected to conflicting stimuli they don't last there long. Jiffy Lube suffers the same kind of poor structure/management. It attracts only the least experienced people and further pushes them to take advantage of you rather than be of service to you. Thanks for asking!

I thought that light meant the gas cap was loose. But my radiator is having similar situation, also the upper radiator hose area and losing fluid, however the same light has been illuminating often temporarily because I keep topping off the fluid to drive locally. "your car is screwed?" Hysterical.
@briansmobile1
@briansmobile1 12 жыл бұрын
The drain cock is in that area. Check to see if it's the culprit. Otherwise just clean it up, top it off lift it up and run it and see if you can pin point the leak that way.
