2002 Chevy S10 Crew Cab Lift Kit Install

In this video we document installing front torsion keys and rear leaf spring shackles on James's 2002 Chevrolet S10 Crew Cab. Not so much a how-to, as it is just to kinda take you along with us on the adventure of working on our vehicles.
A word of warning... your rear shackle bolts will very, very likely be stuck. There are several ways to deal with this; we chose to lift the bed and spray them with penetrating oil and slowly work them back and forth with a hammer.

4 days of WD40 on the rear stock shackles and still welded in there ...Had to heat them up bang on them Heat them up again and impact gun them off Mind you everything on my 05 blazer was from the factory so everything was rusted in there good ...I redone Ties, upper lower arms, Idler arm, sway bar rubbers and links, and removed rust from frame and brackets and rust painted

freakyflow getting ready to put the same keys and shackles on my 2000 blazer tomorrow but thankfully where I live it’s hot and dry so there’s little surface rust underneath even the body mounts are rust free

if you use a tie rod puller on the bolts itll pull them learned this today

@@ms8studios157 Ya it was a driveway workout Figured the shackles would be out normally If it was now ..I have a blowtorch/cutter Air hammer...Still have the truck Runs great

I did the exact same thing with my 02 Sonoma crew cab. Even with adding a 2 inch body lift I still rub with 31x10.50r15s but I have a negative 2.75 offset wheel now. it didn't rub before with my stock wheels! I'm scratching my head trying to figure out why I have a 8.5 rear diff when the RPO codes say I only have a 7.625 ?? I was hoping to catch a glimpse of yours in the video LOL!!

Do you remember what mpg you got on average from your truck because I have a crew cab and I replaced everything and it still gets crap gas mileage

Have the same exact truck an wanting to do same exact thing. Wish y’all would of showed what all y’all went through putting the keys in. How did it drive afterwards with the 32-11.50’s? Did they scrub any? Any vibration in front end or did it drive pretty much the same afterwards?

Did y’all have to add a shim kit to the rear axle? I just installed 2” shackles and 3” keys on my 97, and I’m getting a bad vibration that I think is coming from the driveshaft?

Need to do that to my 95 s10 same set up, almost 300,000 miles. The key to keeping the 4 cylinders goings is to take out the thermostat. Most 4's burned the engine up when a lot of these failed. Does your leaf springs go under the axle ?

now using the shackles does it effect the angle of the driveshaft? got an 2003 s10 crewcab zr5 im wanting to lift

Bigpally it probably does change the pinion angle because the shackles drop the rear of the axle, in a sense. However, if so it's a minute amount. This is James's daily driver and so far there are no driveline vibrations other than a universal joint on the front of the rear driveshaft that was already starting to show signs of wear prior to the lift. I have 32s on mine and don't like the power loss. When your rolling 60 your actually going 64. You need to get the computer programmed. Bigger tires change shift points. 30/9.5/15 is the highest you can go without regearing.

Bigger diameter tires do throw off the shift points and make the final drive "higher", but with that being said... This truck was trail driven and offroaded and went everywhere James ever wanted it to go. IMO ultimately a solid axle swap and a lower gear ratio front and rear would be ideal.

How difficult is it to something like this? I've always liked Chevy but I'm new to this sorta thing, and I'm trying to learn as much as I can before I snag my own

Practically speaking - it's super easy! Just a few nuts and bolts. Realistically speaking - it can be a pain depending on how dirty/rusty your truck. My advice - do it!

I have the same exact truck but mind is 2004 Chevy s10 4x4 ZR5 crew cab... and I'm thinking about swapping 4.3ltr v6 engine vortec to Chevy 5.3ltr v8 engine vortec soon... do you think it'll work out?

Although we think the 4.3 is a very reliable and underrated engine, you CAN do an LS swap on these trucks.

i have a 2000 sonoma and are installing a 2" lift shakle. do i need a shock extenders?

Yes that would work but ideally you would run a 2" longer shock

@@crookedshack2156 you were right, my stance is 32 inches on rear after I installed new stock shocks and 2" shackles on it. I think had i went with extended shocks my lift would have been an inch or two higher, which is what i wanted.

I found the product you used in this video. It says I does not fit a 2001 Chevy crew cab but you used it in this video. I understand this is a 2002 but why would it “not fit”. Can I still use this?

If I remember correctly, they claim the torsion keys are different between the crew cab and the other models. We have found no difference.

They were just generic eBay kits labeled for a regular cab S10

We used one off of ebay, just a generic brand, if you search "S10 1982-2003 lift kit 1-3" torsion keys 3-4" shackles F&R shock extenders 4WD" it should pull it up, it worked well and after a little trimming i now have 33x12.50's on my S10
