+NutzAboutBolts my wife drove the car around for a bit and the rough idle went away and then shorty after the check engine light went off as well. i went to the gas statin and bought motor oil anyway and put in about 1/4 of the quart. it runs as it should at the moment. how would i get this diagnosed? do you think it was bad gas or something that has been corrected?

+Danny Tam you gotta check what the check engine light code is, then reassess what just happen. Could be anything without knowing the codes. Fix the code then clear the code and reassess the vehicle to see if it has rough idle again.

+Integrafreak1 use a plier to wiggle it back and forth to break the hose, if that doesn't work, spray WD-40 on the hose and let the lube the hose up and you can break it loose much easier.

It’s 33ft lbs in the repair manual. If you don’t feel comfortable, just hand tighten it. There is a crush washer, so just make sure it’s crushed when tighten the pcv. Lug nuts are tighten at 80 ft. Lbs...

@b Low same thing just happened to me. I didn’t even get to the “click” on the torque wrench and mine broke off. I also was able to get out the thread. I then just hand tightened it and gently snugged it with the regular socket wrench.

It can cause the engine to idle roughly and the Check Engine Light to illuminate. A plugged PCV system can cause engine oil leaks. Burning oil would be a common causes by worn piston rings, worn cylinder walls or worn valve guides in the head. These failures allow oil to slip into the combustion chamber and get burned

Some 2003-2007 Honda Accords with the 2.4 had oil consumption issues. There was a recall and fix for SOME Vin numbers for a NEW motor from Honda. You should check with your local Honda dealer. The problem is with the piston oil seal rings, they were defective. 2003 and 2004's had a lot of auto trans failures too, Hondas are NOT perfect like a lot of people think!

Yeah, 33ft lbs is a LOT for that small part.

PDF manual states 33 ft. lbs. I even used a 3/8 torque wrench to demonstrate for it and didn't strip the thread. So I'm not sure where he went wrong with his torque to strip the threads.

@@NutzAboutBolts Looked up Chilton Honda repair manual, it doesn't specify torque for PCV valve! 33 ft-lbs sounds about right for 17mm socket size. I think others could have used either aftermarket part or wrong washer or cheap torque tool to break that bolt.

Pirouz Farhani Chilton isn’t the best repair manual for those things, you need a pdf manual online. I have the torque specs if you want me to show you the image. Like I’ve said, I’ve torqued it to 33 ft. Lbs with a 3/8 ratchet. If you don’t feel confident, then just snug fit it like the other person did.

William Chau simple man. Follow the hose, disconnect it from the other end where it is connected and take it to the parts store. Or tell them you need the PCV hose for a 04 Honda Accord. Or whatever your vehicle may be. If you can’t figure this out then take it to someone who can. No disrespect, but you are going to cause more harm than good if something this simple stumps you.

I have an 06 Accord v6. same issue. dealer count find problem. Turned out the accumulator dessicant bag failed and plugged the condensor. starved the compressor of oil and took out the compressor as well.

+Gerardo Hugo if you don't hear the pcv jiggles when you shake it, then its bad. You want to replace it when its bad or around 90k because eventually, it'll go bad. Some people use carb cleaner to clean it but I rather just replace it than to have it go bad later on.

This is a show how not a tell why, try taking the pcv out and inspect it. They don't break they get clogged. Spray it out with carb/choke cleaner or soak it in it. It is all metal part so no damage can be done, keep the gasket separate though. If removal does not jeapordize the gasket my guess is clean the valve and reinstall it. If the pcv valve is gunked up with oil and or clogged, i.e. it the internal part won't rattle inside yes clean it or if you want replace it. I would take it a step further if it is clogged and oily and clean the tube connected to it, you are there so you might as well. PCV = positive crankcase ventilation think of it as a vent for pressure it can make a difference if not allowed to do what it should, a cheap easy fix by either cleaning it or replacing it. They sell them for $10 at the PePGirls or AutoAdvanced mostly junk stuff and some autoparts stores. Dont overheat your car, run it on clean oil up to level, run run some good fuel injector cleaner through it every oil change, keep a clean air filter, inspect hoses, belt, brakes and tires, keep the air up to level and you should just key in and go on these honda's. My accord has 202,000 and I am not looking to replace it yet. The only negative I have noticed but does not affect me is upon start up their is some tick tack noise from a lifter but goes away once car is at operating temp. I have heard this to be a common problem, you crack the top end and do an adjustment but I can live with it. Solid car never had a CEL on every! Replaced plugs with direct replacment plugs the expensive iridium plugs for peace of mind and not even sure if it needed it. Good luck, love the honda and the 2.4L wouldn't even consider the 6 cyl.

RIZLA stamoy I had a similar issue. There are many different possible causes. Either loose spark plug (if your getting a misfire), oil leak under the car or around the engine cover, or worst case fuel line leak/gas pump going bad best to get it checked out Clean your pcv valve first just in case

Rough idle due to a clogged pcv valve. Remove the pcv valve and shake it, you should hear a rattle noise, if not, then you’ll need to replace it
