Ive had mine for about 148,000 miles. Now has 288,000 miles. Manual. Rebuilt diff, replaced clutch, water pump and radiator 3 times. Toughest job was replacing heater core. Engine is running real good tho, just getting blue smoke. Def easy to work on. Doing about 12 mpg average. Good work truck.

Heard these engines build a lot of pressure, specially if kept at idle for too long. Auto part store suggested a pressure release cap for radiator

@@babblingwizdom I went through 2 radiator in 1 year. Thank god for warranty. Runs good now. 129k. Was losing oil pressure. Replace oil sending unit with oem. Not after market. I changed the whole timing chain and oil pump. Still had issues. Went back to oem sensor and boom. We’re good

I have almost 93,000 miles on my 06' Dakota with the 4.7 with regular maintenance. It's a great motor, it just wasn't enough engine for the Ram 1500 until it was upgraded in 2008 and had some lash adjuster and oil sludge issues that were worked out by 2005.

son.. of a .. every damn problem ive been having is on this list HAHA.... 2002 Ram 1500 4.7. Traded a rifle for it. It had 290,000 miles on it. Sat for two years with a busted front passenger wheel bearing. Old farmer wanted it off his property. I drove it home with no front brakes and 7 cylinders firing. Gave it a tuneup the next day and it ran great. So far ive straight piped it, jacked it up 3 inches (2wd) but I haul wood so 3 inches for clearance and switched all the shocks with 2500 shocks. Kept getting P0300 codes. Replaced TPS, AIC, Cam/crank sensors, MAP sensors. Seafoamed the piss out of it. Negative battery cable was corroded so replaced it. Now i need to replace the battery. Those crankshaft vent hoses were both disconnected and im surprised it ran at all. Of course, i found that out after replacing all the sensors. This video is DEAD ON. These 3rd gens are a pain in the ass but man i love this truck...

2002 blown head gasket at 260,000 nobody wants to touch it. 6500 for motor lol don't think so. Blue devil twice, 272,000 today. Drilled holes put in screw in reservoir to release exhaust gas runs great, engine light on misfire but runs great ,change cool packs added plugs 10,000 miles ago . Still runs . 1800 bucks for 360 with 40,000 miles installed in old truck. Driving 02 till it dies no trade in value lol. Slap it with a band aid drive the wheels off

If you live in a winter salt zone, check your pans(oil and trans)!!! I just bought a 2002 1500 4.7 litre 4x4 sport (quad cab short bed like yours) with 88k miles. Got under it in the morning and realized that my oil pan was rusted through. the powder coat on the inside of the pan was holding the oil like a water balloon. I drove 75 miles like that!! I replaced it that day. took about 5 hrs total.
@lubetester
@lubetester 4 жыл бұрын
and you DONT need an engine lift like the service manual says. drop the cross member(4 bolts), then the trans dust pan(8 bolts), then all 18 oil pan bolts are exposed, and you have room to pull out the pan.

They are not a bad light to medium duty truck and they're pretty affordable if you get the 4.7 liter just make sure you change the oil regularly they are prone to build up sludge they are not like the newer cars where you can run them five or ten thousand miles between oil changes!!

One thing idt i heard him mention was the torque converter and the solenoid pack are also common problems. ill be getting done soon but i got 230k miles on mine and it still runs great

You probably know this but if you turn the key to the on position three times and then leave it in the on position without starting. You should get the code pop up where your odometer reading is. Then you can look up online. Best of luck to you if you got any questions, I'd be happy to help you out if I can.

No I'm at about a hundred and seventy now and haven't had any problems, run some rislone oil treatment through it if you think it may be gunked up and change the oil every 3000 to 3500. Good luck with that could be oil pump hopefully it'll work itself out.

You know your truck, that’s great to see. I’ve got one just like it, I have 238,000 miles and runs strong. I have maintenance items scheduled in near future when I have time and $. Was going to ask you, I’ve been through 3 radiator caps and I have problems with overpressure release at the little hose at the cap. I have installed a catch container so coolant doesn’t get all over my engine. I’m fixing to buy a deep neck cap in hopes that will fix it. It’s been pressure checked no blown head gasket or anything like that. Doesn’t use oil, no oil in coolant, no coolant in oil, just a nagging little issue. Either the plastic basin or the cap that goes on it. Have you dealt with this? Thanks, great video. 👍
@babblingwizdom
@babblingwizdom 2 жыл бұрын
No, I have never had that problem but I have heard about people having that problem especially if they let the engine idle a lot not sure what causes it. I was told could be a radiator issue maybe swapping out the old one with a new one would help but I'm not a hundred percent sure. Wish I had more for you hope you can get that resolved.

Hey, how you doing, I have a question. I have the same exact truck, just bought it used. It was missing the Oil dipstick pole and dipstick. The guy put in the oil dipstick pole and dip stick. The problem is looking at your video it shows the oil dipstick pole on the left of the motor. On my truck it's coming from the back of the motor where the firewall is. Any ideas on what's going on ?
@babblingwizdom
@babblingwizdom 4 жыл бұрын
The transmission dipstick is usually closer to the firewall I'm not sure why the oil dipstick would be located there that's strange if it's an 03 with a 4.7 L the oil stick should be in the same place mine is as far as I know

How much oil are you burning? I'll go through about a quart between changes and I'm at 190k. If I use the wrong type of oil I'll burn more if I use what's recommended I go through about a quart seems to be pretty normal for these engines for some reason. If you're doing a lot of short trips stop and go these engines can build up sludge especially if it doesn't get to operating temperature regularly
