Poor Bernie, we need to hook that scope up to him and diagnose those hiccups. They'd probably produce a cool pattern - red channel on his diaphragm and yellow on the pressure transducer in his mouth. I felt every one of 'em. Seriously though, God bless this good man. He's a national treasure.

Just the way he navigates and commands the scope is impressive. It’s always great when I see another Bernie video released. The understanding of the data shown is mind blowing, there truly is only one Bernie Thompson, no one comes close to reading scope data. I love my Escope, it’s super rare here in the uk. I hope your health is better than all of our genuine concerns Bernie, as others have said, better get it checked.

Are you saying that multiple transmissions were improperly rebuilt?
@H750S6 ай бұрын
That’s what I was thinking. Thought for sure it would have been a harness issue. Maybe two different pressure switch signal wires touching intermittently. Especially with multiple transmissions.
@mikemurphy75196 ай бұрын
@@H750S I find it hard to believe that two different transmissions have the exact same issue unless the same person rebuilt each one.

FYI for the viewers: Bernie misspoke at 13:28 by saying "The white is the UD solenoid." This is actually the OD solenoid. I am not criticizing Bernie in any way, I am trying to save viewers the 30 minutes of head scratching I was doing trying to figure out whether the tranny was in 3rd gear or 4th gear.

Very interesting video and very informative. One question; How do you differentiate if this was actually an intermittently grounding wire going to the pressure switch? We see that type of problem more often than you'd think (mice-itis or shafing/pinched wires). Thanks in advance.

@clampingdiode6 ай бұрын
I must've missed something... So, the valve body was defective? I mean, after the first rebuild, you tend to think this would've been replaced, or even better, the valve body would've been replaced first. I have to be missing something. Help me out.
@Ponchofan4006 ай бұрын
I agree. Why is it intermittent and taking two plus hours to show up if it’s a leaking plug??
@clampingdiode6 ай бұрын
@@Ponchofan400 Actually, I have seen codes take hundreds of miles to reoccur (2006 Corolla P0420). There is another youtuber called scannerdanner that had one take over a year to come back. A year! I believe temperature has a lot to do with it. Heat soak. And the pcm strategy is if it sees something on it's latent stage of failing, it will continue to test it till it either passes it or fails it. This is exacerbated if it is a two trip code. What I don't understand is why the valve body wasn't replaced in the first place? It is commonplace to replace it, especially if a rebuild didn't fix the concern.
@Ponchofan4006 ай бұрын
@@clampingdiode I get a code taking time to set. I have an issue with the scope not seeing that pressure switch come on for over two hours with a leaking plug!! Get what I mean?
@clampingdiode6 ай бұрын
@@Ponchofan400 Ah yes, I now get what you mean. Maybe it took 2 hours for it to fail? I dunno. Yes, the scope capture is the whole point of this video. I went to the video again and saw what was 'most likely' leaking. So, based on data, it took 2 hours for the plug retainer to leak and cause the concern. If it leaked constantly, the scope would've shown it, and it would've had the concern (code and limp mode) much sooner. Be interesting to know what this plug retainer is made of. Bet the engineers revised it for the future models. Edit: and I wonder if there is a TSB pointing to this? Maybe not as I think the other shop(s) would've caught it. Update: did find a TSB for this code (P1776), but it was for a reflash which would've been done w/ the new TCM module. Edit #2: I am going over the video again to see what I possibly missed, and sure enough, the 'solenoid pack' was replaced. It still brings up the question...was this in conjunction with the valve body??? Far from being a trany expert. It was hard to follow.
@Ponchofan4006 ай бұрын
@@clampingdiode Thank you Sir! I hope we get an answer. Is it the plug or not?? I wanna know if it’s truly fixed or not! Sounds like a ton of money and time has been put into this car.
