Completed this yesterday on a 2005 Grand Caravan, purchased the actuator on amazon for $17.00, could not find a T 15 torx screwdriver separate so I bought a 6 piece set of magnetized screwdrivers. This video made it pretty easy, just that you can't sit to work it, and your too high kneeling (oh, my back, can you say ibeprofin?),the top right panel fastener is a bugger to get to release, the vapor barrier would not stay back in place, used painters tape to hold it before replacing door panel. Thanks for this video, not sure if I would have attempted the task without it. I measured for the drill hole, came out dead on. To lengthen the life of all 4 actuators I recommend turning off the automatic lock on forward motion locking function (see manual) IF you feel it is safe to do so (no children). Now I am subscribed.

Showing that the replacement actuator is bigger than original saved me a lot of trouble. But its much easier to take the whole locking mechanism out to replace the motor. Great video, thanks.

Very helpful video that made for an easy job. The third tip from Ivan is a great addition: DON'T DRILL! I used a #30 torx to remove the three screws around the door lock at the back of the door. The whole assembly comes out so there is no need to drill or worry about dropping the small screw. With the assembly out, everything is easy to see and access. That is by far the best way to go.

2017 Pacifica same part. Complete overhaul inside doors. Need to take 2 panels of net to latch inside, covers 3 - 10mm bolts, then toward the back, instead of drilling hole, there is a 4 bolt panel. Also need to take out 3 T-30(?) torx from lock so the entire assembly slides out. 1 15mm torx holds the part in place. DO NOT BEND THE METAL WIRE. Just take that part slow

That's a shame, $17 on amazon. Works perfect, I turned off "automatic" locking function to increase life of all 4 actuators. I lock them when I need to.

Recommend plastic pry tools, care/finesse when drilling (and always), clean greasy hand ✋ marks off when finished (try to avoid them to begin with)

dont have #30 torx to remove outer screws so drilled-you can press the actuator body towards you -pressing it against the panel as you slowly unscrew thereby leaving no space for the screw to fall.....

Very informative. I have a question. If I just disconnect the rod.. can I just make the door manual unlock/lock? The poormans fix atm..
@jimdandy64724 жыл бұрын
The rod is connected to the actuator, and another part of the actuator moves the pin to lock/unlock the door. You could probably rig up a rod extension and create a manual lock. You could also remove the actuator and "lock" in the locked our unlocked position for a real "poor mans" fix. Typically (or often) when the actuator fails it locks up and won't move. The worm gear gets bound up. Sometimes the little motor fails or the teeth grind off.
@johnw37944 жыл бұрын
@@jimdandy6472 thank you for the reply. After looking at it myself I see its complicated to make a so called poormans fix. Purhaps I should just get a new actuator, that would be easier. Thanks for the great information
@crazysteve93903 жыл бұрын
When you take the actuator out, take it apart. Simple: one screw in the center of the moving piece, take that off; then five small screws hold the cover on the actuator. Once you take the cover off, remove everything except the white piece that rocks back and forth. Now your actuator is a strictly mechanical piece. Put the cover back on, put the moving piece back on, reinstall back in the van, except don’t plug the electric back in. Now you have a strictly mechanical/manual door lock. Just did this on my Dodge Caravan, same setup inside the door as this.

@@crazysteve9390 and sometimes, if you're lucky, you can fix the actuator by taking it apart. Turns out mine was seized because the white cam gear was binding on the motor worm gear at the end of its travel. I repacked with new grease and got it working again (make sure you get the cam gear spring under the gear, back in right). Not sure how long it will last, but if it fails again, I will just remove that white gear to make it manual.

your having a laugh if you can change the actuator with out removing the lock ! star drive long extension undo three bolts - go inside and carefully pull out lock with all the cables remove actuator - unlug and undo 1 retraining screw small star drive - replace actuator ,,,,, now replace lock - to keep lock in place - duct tape on drive cables to keep lock in place - while go out side and put three screws holding lock back in .
@jimdandy64726 жыл бұрын
I had another laugh two days ago when I changed the Drivers side sliding door lock actuator without removing the lock. I posted the video today. I've done three of them now. I've seen videos where they remove the three T30 torks and pull the lock, which makes it easier to see, but it's not worth the trouble for me, especially on the drivers side which has a factory access hole for the hold-in screw. For some reason the factory did not provide an access hole on the passenger side, so your way is a good option, but I chose to drill an access hole and not pull the lock.
