Ricky Reed - packing the bearings with grease is called for by the Ford shop manual. The grease provides essential lubrication while the diff lube slowly seeps back into the hub.

Good job gentlemen. Thank you for giving me all the information needed for this installation, right down to the torque and preset positioning. This is the first video that I've seen that shows packing an oil lubricated bearing with grease. I just usually fill the space between the bearings with oil during assembly but I think I am going to adopt your system. I'm glad you posted this!

Thank you for the video. Question: I'm having an issue with my inner seal leaking. I've replaced it 3 times so far, and each time I cleaned off the axle/shaft. I've heard that some people use these sleeves in addition to the inner seal. I'm getting really frustrated!

Did u guys instal the oil slinger? Is there 1 or 2 on each rear tire? Did not change the 2 racer rings for the new bearings, why not? I’m replacing NEW rear calipers with pads, emergency parking shoes with spring kit, and dust plate shield.. Should I replace bearings etc. etc. like U guys did? I have a 2010 F250 Super Duty 5.4L engine 4 X 4, Is the driver’s side hub tighten to the left like your truck ?

I’ve got a 2012 dually and the rear wheel had what looks like black oil residues and I just did the brakes and found there’s also some residue on the hub part that sticks out through wheels (not sure the real term). It seems slow but I’m not sure, is this my problem?

On getting that inner seal out.....drift punch from the front knocks um right out. and you shouldn't pack those bearing, full float axles and their bearings are flooded, and dont need any additional grease. Torque axle bolts to 80ft lbs and use use blue thread locker....and lube the oring before you lightly seat the axle with a hammer, dont run it in with the bolts.

2011 F350 SRW 6.7L. I paid $22 per quart for the Motorcraft 75W-140 Synthetic Rear Axle lubricant and wouldn't want to contaminate it with an incompatible grease. What Motorcraft wheel bearing grease does the Ford manual recommend? I assume it would also be synthetic. Is it Motorcraft XG-11?

@pjwoolw
@pjwoolw 4 жыл бұрын
@@maximilianorocca5164 The initial torque spec of 60 ft lbs seats the bearings. Backing off of that 5 or 7 clicks gets them where they should be. The axle shaft nuts torque spec is 80 ft lbs. I have no way to share the service manual with you as they are paper copies. I would imagine AllDatadiy.com has most if not all the same info as my printed copies.

OMG. Who was the jack leg that replaced the parking brakes on this ride and thought they could not replace the hub seal!!!!!! Nothing like doing it all twice to save $20. 😂😂😂😂😂 Now ya have brand new oil soaked brake pads. No doubt if you read to pack the bearings with grease “In the Ford Manual” on the first install you did it threw the rear seal. From the looks of the axel flang at the start of the video you might’ve want to check that O-ring where you pinched it running those axe nuts in instead of just pushing it in. If it’s giving to much resistance the O-ring is pinched and will leak and leave a stain just like the one on the hub at the beginning of your video.
