PLEASE CLICK LIKE AND SUBSCRIBE!!!! My wife's 2007 Dodge Durango 4.7L had a vacuum leak and had been idling extremely high for months. We didn't know what the problem was until we finally mentioned it to the correct person. The guy at O'Reillys!! LOL! I can't remember his name or I would totally give him a shout out! When I say high idle, I mean anywhere from 1500 to 2000 RPM's. I didn't even have to accelerate away from stops. Just let off the gas and it would go. I'm thrilled to say the problem has been fixed!!

I know this video is old, but you are a lucky man, I have been a mechanic for 45 years and still fix everything from camshaft replacement to complex electrical diagnostics and check engine light repair, I get no thanks at all from family its just expected, to hear your wife praising you makes my heart melt.

You saying that is awesome. Thank you so much. 3 weeks ago the Durango got totaled out by a big buck. Victoria was ok buy incredibly sad cause a life was lost and she really loved that Durango. Thanks again for this comment I needed it.

I was experiencing a 2000 rpm idle on my 4.7 and after using brake cleaner to find my vacuum leak, i found out that my pcv tube was torn completely and was clamped on with metal bracket in the WAY back. It took me over two pain-staking hours with major hand cramping and abrasions to my hands and arms. I hugged my motor and used "feel" to cut away the excess tubing after removing the clamp. I will buy the part you recommended tomorrow and edit my response once I have fixed my high idle. I believe you are going to save my butt from spending a bunch of otherwise unnecessary money...Thank you!!! I really appreciate you making this video and being honest about the PAIN it took to fix this issue. My pain was exactly as you described... BACK DOWN to 600-700 RPM!! You are a HERO, my guy. Thanks a million.

I know it has been said here many times but I have to say it again, you are a life saver! Thank you for taking the time to share. It is a personal victory when you finally get that sucker off the back of that manifold. On my 07 ram I got it off from the passenger side with a pick tool that is bent in a 90 degree hook at that end. It stabbed into the rubber hose enough to pry it off. It just takes a ton of patience and a whole lot of "I will not let this thing beat me attitude." A 20 year old me would of got out the big hammer and made room to get it out. Old man me has learned patience.and wisdom. Any way like most people that get this repair done I had to tell somebody besides my dog how great it felt to finally get it done. The wife would of just said "that's great honey." She just doesn't get the feeling like you will. Thank you again sir and madam you guys are great!

I rebuilt the top side put everything new back in it and it ran @1800 rpm’s and made me scratch my head for weeks!! I finally put the problems on KZfaq and your video came up I watch it and immediately went back out and looked in the bed of the truck found the vacuum hose and put it on and yippee all done now. I even put a new throttle body on, new idle sensor and a throttle control valve and even a new ECM and nothing worked! Thanks dude

Thank you for the video. A tip about the battery disconnect: always disconnect the NEGATIVE first, then the positive if you have to remove the battery... If you only want to clear the codes, you only need to disconnect the negative and give it at least 10 to 30 minutes and you'll have forced the computer to reset everything.

Thanks so much for this. It was absolutely the main problem on my single mom friends Durango, and I would never have known to check it if not for your video. Just for others to know, we replaced the elbow like you did, and then the thing would not idle at all, but just died if you didn't hold down the gas pedal some. If you held it down lightly, it idled down low, so we knew we had fixed the main problem. To make a long story short (after wasting $50 on a TPS she didn't need) I stumbled onto (actually an answer to a desperate prayer) the fact that the IAC wiring plug wasn't plugged in well. I pushed and pushed but I couldn't get it to snap in. Finally I whacked it and I heard it snap in and viola it was fixed :) One thing I struggled with that you left out of your video, the "hose" that connects to the elbow is not a "hose" but a plastic "formed" tube. I wanted to replace it, but I couldn't find a part # for it? Thanks again

Mine had a clamp on it, so instead of pulling the manifold, here is what I did. I went to the auto parts store and got a rubber valve stem for a wheel. I took off the cap off the valve stem and plugged the hole with it at the back of the intake. It's a good fit. Right or wrong, it took 5 min. The only thing I removed was the hose from the brake booster to the throttle body. I spent 4 hours trying to get that clamp off. Idle dropped below 1000 rpms. This is not advice, just the rig that worked for me.

I just fixed same issue. The pcv elbow in the video is close. I could not find ANYWHERE the exact elbow. The one listed here is VERY close but one end is slightly larger than the other. I ended up placing larger end on the plastic tube leading back to the pcv but placed a hose clamp on it. The smaller end of the elbow fits snug onto to manifold nipple. This video will absolutely solve the problem!!! 2004 Jeep WJ with 4.7 HO engine!

Very thanks mister !!! I'm french but i have a 2007 Dodge Durango 4.7L. And I have the same problem. I had changed all in my car (valv EGR and PCV, Intake Air Temperature Sensor, Throttle Position Sensor, Idle Air Regulator (RAR) Solenoid Valve, Intake Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor). And the idle was still too high... And yet, I had seen your video from the start. But I didn't believe it. After several failures, I felt the elbow but it seemed clean to me. I took my car to JEEP which reduced me by 500 € without finding anything !! Out of desperation, I bought € 300 a machine that sends out smoke to test the hose. And it was the elbow of the PCV valve !!!!!! In short, I lost 1000 € for 1 elbow at 2 € ... Thank you anyway. Thanks to your video, I was able to have the reference. Otherwise, I couldn't find her on rockauto ...

I think I have the same problem but on a 4.7 Grand Cherokee... revs erratically between 300 and 1500 when idling... also burns around a quarter of oil every 600 miles, so I'm thinking that there might be a leak there on the PCV or that hose.

I have a 2007 Chrysler Aspan with the exact same problem. I just changed out the IAC the throttle position sensor and EGR valve. And all I had to do was just watch this video and my issues would of been solved. But truth is all the new parts and tight vacuum system is worth the savings at the pump. Thanks for the video. Thanks this video saved me on my 2007 1500 with the 4.7 I couldn’t even see or feel the tear but i was getting a p0507 with a high idle so I decided to check and sure enough the rubber boot attached to the intake mini was torn. Easiest way on a ram is to remove the hood latch so it’s easier to lay on the engine and get both hands on the nipple then use a razor blade to make a slit in the remaining piece of hose. Wear gloves and it’s an easier job. Thanks again

The feeling of fixing a car issue is so great. We have a Dodge Durango that started running horribly. It jumps up and down in RPMs at idle. Stalling, etc. spark plugs were bad and gapped at different sizes. That helped. Cleaned the map sensor and took off the throttle position sensor, that made it worse. Hoping the “made it worse” was just the air leak rearing it’s head. There’s hoses connected to the air filter that are brittle at the ends that we plan to replace. Going to check this back hose as well if we can reach it!! Thanks for the suggestion :-) & the cute video.

Definitely character building. But it sure runs so much better now. Going to be making a new video on the Durango this week. Experimenting again with the suspension. Hope you stay tuned. Oh and thanks for commenting

Thanks so much! This was the same mysterious vacuum leak as on my 4.7 Ram. I’ll be heading O’reillys here shortly. Life saver!!! How did you figure this out? Anyway, thanks a million!

I have learned over the years, instead of throwing lots of expensive parts, wasting a lot of time, and taking extensive video footage to try to figure what the problem is, I now take my vehicle to the dealer to get it fixed correctly the first time, at minimal time, and expense. Sometimes, time is more valuable than banged-up fingers, hands, and throwing a lot of money into parts that are not necessary.

Your right about that. But being disabled I dont have money all at one time to take it to the dealership. So I have to do a little here and there when I have saved that much. And when I was able to work and made good money then I didn't hesitate to take it. I made this video for those people that are struggling. Thanks for commenting

mrgrouchyguy I tell ya if it wasent go i ng to be fixed. I was pushing it to the curb. It was just a bad design. If it was an early 70s on back it would have had one with multiple ports right up front on the intake. But that Durango runs so good.

Had the same issue. Took to mechanic and they couldn't figure it out. Wanted to charge me an arm and a leg. I brought my vehicle home frustrated. It was in the dead of winter. I didn't have any heat available in my garage. I eventually followed the pvc hose by feeling with hand to back of engine. Walaa the hose wasn't connected. I've be dam. Reconnected and high idle and vacuum leaked fixed. It was a pain but was glad I figured it out.

Just fixed the same exact problem. I didn't notice the high rev at first because I had a hissing that was obviously a vaccum leak. Thanks to your video. You were not lying when you said it was hard to get to. Mine also had a factory clamp. Thanks for the video. $6.00 and some blood and sweat. Not too bad. The 07 Rango lives on!

I'm really glad it helped. And most especially saved you some money. We really like ours. We took it on its first road trip with over 2 hundred thousand miles on it and believe it or not we got over 600 miles on that tank of gas. Blew us away. But I work hard on doing things to make it get the best.

I know this video is old but the reason it took longer for it to idle down was because the PCM computer and the mass air flow sensor had to talk to each other as well as other oxygen sensors and change their values so the truck would run correctly

Good video. I have a Dodge Ram I purchased new in 2005. I have had nothing but problems with it beginning six months after purchase. I still have the truck due to the ridiculously high prices of new trucks. Bottom line: If I ever buy another truck, it won't be a Chrysler product. It's a total money pit.

Hey man I have the same problem only I have a 2005 Dodge Dakota that little boot keeps falling off the nipple and mine is located directly in the middle of the motor yours it looks easy compared I found gone through to get my put back on twice you have to hug the engine with both hands one oh one side one or the other and it’s all all feel I didn’t have it fixed yet all the way found out the reason why he keeps falling off Had my engine rebuilt three months ago and there’s a little clip cut the pipe is supposed to go to buy his plastic pipe coming down and it’s on the left-hand side of the motor in the hell do you have to get that boot on that after you have a boot on the motor and then slide this into it on your way to get to the Little in a little hook on the side or the piper gets into it just stays oh well I will keep trying I looked on your way to get it fixed right does he have to either drive to drop them transmission down to get back there or chopped all motor

I had a transmission issue and found I had to replace the celinoid pack in the transmission. Had some goof that tried to tell me he could do it but messed around taking things off of my car for his gfs car. I had two it to my daughter's roommate that's going to school to be a mechanic that doesn't believe how bad shops gouge people for more money then needed. It took her about 2 to 3 hrs to do that job.
