I have the same car and it’s great the only issue with the power plant is the water pump is plastic and when it goes out it’s it’s super difficult to change. It’s a engine out issue!

Yeah, always change Water pump when doing timing belt so ya dont gotta have it go bad most likely.. Just found a '10 mazda 6 for $2500, just needs a starter and in real nice shape.. though i would take the mazdaspeed 6(or the turbo 3 also) any day, turbo and AWD in the speed 6 has got to be AWESOME!!

I bought a 2009 Mazda 6 grand touring package as well, I bought it in March / 2021, I’m the 2nd owner, it only has 53,000 original miles as the 1st owner had it parked in the garage most of the times, interior is beautiful black leather, sunroof, motor is impeccable clean, very smooth driving, exterior is in excellent conditions too, I’m going to upgrade the stereo with an android multimedia w/back up camera and the headlights assembly, I already got the LED’s installed throughout the entire car inside and out including the license plate. I’m very happy with my car and purchase.

I bought one of these brand new in 2010. Fully loaded Grand Touring model with navigation. I still miss that car. It drove so nice, especially on the highway. Extremely smooth, nimble, powerful, and light on its feet. I loved the looks, the integrated exhaust finishers, the LED headlights with level adjustment, and the neon orange gauge font with blue rings (the color contrast looked super cool at night). I also loved that you could lower the windows by holding down the unlock button on the key fob which certainly helped cool off the interior before getting into the car. The navigation screen was motorized and when you wanted to play a CD, it flipped down and forward which was a cool party trick. The only negative I remember was that the plastic trim around the gear shifter scratched VERY easily. I once lightly dragged the vacuum hose across it while vacuuming out the interior and it got super scratched up. It looked awful. Otherwise, it really was a terrific car! I was furious when Mazda dropped a V6 option for the next redesign. Come on, it’s called a 6! You’ve gotta offer a V6!

Agree still got my 2011 252k miles only major thing was needed a water pump at 100k caught it before it ruined the engine. Glad I has insurance. Need to get it done soon preemptively big bucks this time. But everything else is great and fast as the day I bought it.

2009-2013 Mazda 6 common problems: The Mazda 6 is a pretty good car and doesn't have too many problems. The front subframe is known to rust on the right side, but Mazda issued a recall for this issue, read more below. If you are buying a used Mazda 6, have it inspected from underneath for rust. We recommend looking for a 4-cylinder model, as if the water pump fails in the V6 at higher mileage, the repair will be very expensive. Common problems in 4-cylinder models are mostly minor, such as a failing thermostat, headlight bulbs going bad often, warped front rotors causing steering wheel to shake when braking and electrical issues with the Push Button Start. Models with an old-school ignition key are less troublesome. Read more about the problems:

I just did a water pump job on this engine. Looked like a pain at first but found a video that made the repair pretty straight forward. You will have to make some room for access and in my case on a Ford Escape that involved removing the air intake and battery+tray A crank pulley removal tool nuts and washers and power steering remover/installer tool will get this job done. Clean the cam pulley bolt out with some lubricant and the screw that fits. Lastly, start the water pump belt and zip tie so it’ll hold in place, you can then bump the engine over until the belt seats and the zip ties will automatically cut. Again not a horrible job, but with a couple rental tools you won’t be stuck

I still have my 2009 Mazda 6 GTi. Approaching 100,000 miles and absolutely no issues. I bought this car as a 2 gen in August of 2008 as a 2009 model year. It’s 13 years old and looks awesome! It’s just like the body style of the one you reviewed. I have everything but nav. Camel leather interior seats, camel and black door cards. One of if not the first to have blind spot monitoring. I also have the same dimming tech for my side view mirrors that comes with the interior rear view mirror. So excellent! No blinding car lights. The car also features puddle lights under the side view mirrors. This car has so much to offer. The ten point Bose system is great! I know it’s not high mileage for its age but that doesn’t mean it hasn’t been pushed. Honestly, the 4 cylinder engine is quite nimble and has good torque. No complaints about its power and getting 345 miles per tank. I love my vintage Mazda 6!

I own the same 2009 Mazda 6 V6 (no nav though) with 270,000 miles. No problems either but a few things to be aware of: 1) Like mentioned in a comment below, the passenger dash crash-pad melts. Be aware that it may need to be replaced 2) Remember, these 3.7L motors have a fatal design flaw - the water pump is a life part, meaning it is not replaced. It sits in with the timing chain and requires the motor to be pulled to replace. If it fails, the water will drip straight into the oil pan and then the motor is toast. For this reason I change my coolant regularly (more frequently than recommended by Mazda) and only use the Mazda coolant as specified in the manual. I love my car and it has served me well and is very reliable. I will drive it as long as I can, but it should be mentioned about the 3.7 L design flaw.

@@tyronenur2373 I just did the water pump timing chain job on a 2009 with 120k miles. The problem is the gaskets start to leak. There are 2 gaskets for the water pump. I got it for shorts. So it wasn’t a big deal. But it is a job. Took me a few days. Working a few hours a day. The front engine cover is the hardest part trying to get it out. Not a lot of room. I did not have to pull the motor out. But I did use a engine hoist to raise the motor high enough to pull that cover out. Just finished it yesterday. Running beautiful now.

On the Mazda/Ford 3.7L, the water pump is internal and driven by the timing chain. It can leak coolant into the crankcase, trashing the motor. Periodic oil tests with Blackstone Labs can indicate whether you're getting coolant in the oil - Hopefully before you incur major damage. Expect to pay at least $1,500 to replace the water pump. More if you sensibly replace the timing chain "while you're in there". The 2009 Mazda 6s also had a recall for structural corrosion on the front subframe. The recall service included coating the subframe with a thick wax-like substance and I think rerouting a drain line or two. Check condition before you buy.

It's such a shame that the 3.5 and 3.7 Duratech has an internal water pump. Aside from that water pump, they're excellently reliable engines that produce good power. That water pump is the only reason I won't buy a Taurus despite liking the car as a whole. Oh well, my Hybrid Fusion with the 2.0 is reliable as the day is long.

The 4 is even more reliable. They are using the old mazda 6 2.5l in the transit work vans doing great. Mazda tweeked the intake and throttle body so a bit more zoom than the 2.5 fusion. Still gets 25 city to 32 mpg highway after 140k miles.

I own a 2010 Mazda 6 with 160,000 miles. Best car by far I ever owned. Better and more reliable than Corollas I owned. I work on cars and I do admit, things tend to be more work in this car, for example, light bulbs, radiator, the front bumper, etc, but overall, I LOVE IT. It has been very, very reliable. The 2.5 engine has plenty of juice. V6's tend to have more problems and are costlier to repair. Plus more money on gas, much faster. But its an individual choice. Go with the I touring or I touring plus, they tend to have more on them, the sport is the cheapest one. Honestly, if you do not work on cars too much, consider the repairs are going to be costlier. For example, the radiator took me a day to replace, you literally have to dismantle the front end. Since mechanic charge by hour, its going to be a sky high bill. The Mazda 6 has lots of curb appeal and since they are not that popular people will look and even till this day I get many compliments. I bought it used at about 48,000 miles, I thought it might not make it to 100. To date, the only thing that needed replacing are some rear suspension stuff. The front items were replaced due to a person that ran into me, I will not count that as a break down. Please don't pay for replacing your headlight bulb for $600. The bulb costs $10. Seems scary, but its actually very easy.

So the only differences I’ve noticed with mine is the nicer exhaust look on each side while mine has a dual exhaust on the one side without the V6 logo printed above it. Mine also the sedan leather seating interior instead of black. Would you say mine is still considered a grand touring trim or would it fall under a sports trim?

I have one but with the petrol 2.5L engine. There have been so many issues with it and it’s only got 185k kms on it. The suspension is the main issue. I have changed upper and lower control arms at the front, shocks ( understandable I guess) the front sway bar bushes, all engine mounts and now the electric steering rack needs replacing as the torque sensor has failed. The rear hatch opens on its own accord, the drivers window regulator has also failed. The dash is also breaking down and has become all sticky. The drivetrain is good and the car is very handsome but the underpinnings are terrible. I can’t wait to sell it

95% of eveeything you kist described relates to rubber and plastic pieces exposed to constant use, constant temperature changes & extremes, and constant wear. And most issues people immediately chalk up to electrical issues are simply dirty contacts or switches that can be corrected with a squirt of--- hold on, wait for it--- electrical contact cleaner. You could own a Rolls Royce of the same year & mileage & time on the road exposes to elements. It, too, will have worn out rubber & plastic & poly parts. You could own

Like the review except I don't agree with your taste in body styling. I think the exterior is still very attractive even in 2020 & way better looking than the generation prior to it. I do agree with the interior being dated but that's truly a default part of having an older car.

junk And yes, I own a Mazda six Nothing but trouble with this generation didnt last to 58,000 miles before I had to replace the motor.. All out of pocket replacing parts of the car are pretty easy to work with, but anything rubber on the car has failed. Even the clearcoat has failed.

Do I have a 2010 Mazda 6 2.5 l and it has 250 thousand miles on it still running... at 209,000 miles... I had part I replaced was the tension pulley and I allowed the dealership to do a recall on the cross member, which was Rust issues with the cross member but they only did one side... the funny part about it last time I checked across members one whole piece and there's rust issues that does not make sense ...rust travel...lol and I'm still arguing with Mazda about their whole cross member unit and the fact is causing problems on my passenger side front wheel because the traction control light is on and the whole suspension has been completely redone.. the issue is coming from the cross member because its throwing something off causing the ABS light on the passanger front wheel... come on Mazda... in other words... FYI do not take your car to the dealership for a cross member replacement Also on that note I figure out the problem with the turbo lag and the 5 Stroke motor alone with issue that's going on with rotary motor and Mazda have not still reached out to me I'm about to sell this to another Corporation

hey...thought i would add my thoughts since i owned two2009 6 cars. the first i owned 24 hours. i got the 4 cyl in cherry black and returned to the dealer THE NEXT DAY and said i made a mistake. i could not live with that engine!!!!!!!!!!! i lost thousands getting the black S...and have enjoyed it ever since. things that went wrong. 1)the dash melted into a sticky rubber. mazda replaced the entire dash top. 2)paint as thin as ricepaper...andanything larger than a bug will chip. 3)electronics a nightmare. failed seatbelt light. failed dash lights-going off after certain car washings 4)rubber around c pillar blacked out area decided to turn to dust and join the here-after. 5)transmission is really lagging going from 1 to 2nd gear. livable, but irritating in stop n go daily. 6)wind and tire noise. ya, i guess i could hear my wife IF I really TRIED, but it is not effort-free. but car STILL drives like an affordable BMW...perhaps better.

I've had a few late 2000s/early 2010s Mazdas, they've all lasted a good long time, the electronics in our '11 CX-9 went haywire after about 6 years but other than that, that thing has been a trooper, it's been put through it's paces, it always starts. I had a '09 6 V6 that I was sideswiped into a drainage ditch in, the car was mangled but it kept me safe.
