I'm an extremely intense person and I drive a Prius. Why? Because I intensely like an extremely reliable car that saves me money. I'm literally funding my toddlers college savings plan with the cash I'm saving on a weekly, monthly and annual basis. Unlike a lot of people who waste money on other expensive and ineffective cars that depreciate like a rock. Rational people with priorities drive cars like Prius. Teenage boys want trucks that cost 50k and never tow or haul because of "image" and "feelings"

I just bought a 2012 from the original owner and honestly, a well maintained prius is unironically a car guys perfect daily. Because it's so dependable and reliable, with very little maintenance outside of basic oil changes, etc, it means a car guy can enjoy wrenching on his fun cars, while having a daily that won't frustrate him with frequent repairs like a lot of other cars in its price range. No belts, no alternator, no starter, and super cheap on gas. Case in point, the guy I bought my prius from, has a c8 vette in his garage, and a 69 f150 he's restoring.

100k isn't high mileage, I'm at 200k miles (300+k kms) and it's still fine. Might need suspension thing looking at in the future. Main thing is to check when the battery was last replaced and if it was with genuine or with "refurbished", and the water/inverter pump is apparently something. I also heard that the US models were put together in US and not Japan like the rest of them? Would have to check that ;p

@@goblue7516 you don't have to change it unless its broken. But I would definitely recommend having it cleaned. If you are mechanically inclined then its honestly not that bad it only took me a few hours. If you aren't interested in doing it yourself and you decide to take it to a mechanic you will need to ask them to clean the pipe,cooler, and egr valve itself. Its more important than you think its basically the weakest link in this car and its the cause of most 3rd gens engine problems. all those blown head gaskets and cylinder #1 misfires in the 3rd gen? caused by clogged egr. see: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fbd7h5SUqsWpip8.html

My biggest flex is that I've never hated this car. I'm a car Enthusiast like everybody else here, and I've always thought the Prius was a cute little car that got amazing gas mileage! Hell even when I was a kid I never understood why this car got so much hate. It's not meant for fast driving. It's not meant to be powerful. It's literally just a city car with 98 horsepower that's meant to get you from point A to point B. Nothing more, nothing less. I really never understood why a lot of car enthusiasts hated on this car like it was their worst enemy or something. They really treated this car like it killed their mother or some shit, and it's absolutely hilarious seeing everybody have a nervous breakdown at the very sight of a Prius. 💀

In love with my reliable Generation 2, 2008 Prius, with 170,000 miles. Bought new 25K 10/2007. Excellent shape, since its garage kept. Original Battery perhaps due to less corrosion on the hybrid battery connections? Has additional front and rear running lights. The HID headlights failed but replaced them myself by feeling my way with my hand and did not have to take the bumper off. They are much brighter than the originals. Replace the 12V battery twice. New water pump. New left front bearing. 2 New PVC valve replacement. Fix a leak in the air-conditioning system. Cleaned hybrid battery fan with an added cleanable filter screen at the air intake. Sometimes the dash lights go out when the weather gets cold then will go back on within 50 miles of driving. Heard it’s cold solder joints on the electronics? Went 90K 10yr. with the energy saver Defender Michelin tires and replaced them with the regular Defender Michelin tires. Loss a few miles per gallon but handles better and a softer ride maybe due to new thread. The Prius is used for long trips only with an average mileage of 50+ MPG. Short trips are by bike, feet and public transit all year. It’s a beautiful sports car Barcelona RED and a sleeping camping car with a 6’ bed with great cargo capacity. Adding a portable inverter makes a 115 Volt generator for back up efficient home power with the on and off cycle of the engine. The Princess Prius is a tough survivor like the princess cat in the movie “The Incredible Journey”. The beautiful large dash display is ahead of its time with sharp graphics like a space ship. Ran out of gas, and a whole dashboard lit up including the triangle of death (indicates serious malfunction - do something now!). Fortunately filled up 1/2 mile away before the battery became too low. Never again!! It’s an adventure reliable stealth vehicle that slips through the air quietly! The best smooth styling of all the model years. Definitely a incognito James Bond vehicle with secret abilities never to be underestimated. So watch out!!! Soon it will become a classic antique with appreciating value

The problem with the battery with this generation is that the battery fan blower didn't have a filter and the blower that cooled the battery failed. Current Prius has a filter and you're supposed to clean or change it, which resolved the battery issue.

@RennieAsh
@RennieAsh Жыл бұрын
@@jonathanfiel6215 I'm sure you could add your own little filter in there somewhere. The battery cooling system intakes from the rear seat area, but that probably doesn't need a filter as the air has already come through the cabin filter (unless you open windows all the time). You can also take off the trim in the rear to access the fan and clean it every 5 or 10 years. Mine wasn't clogged after 11 years, but I did clean it out while replacing the battery.

If you ever do work on the hybrid battery, some people suggest moving the temperature sensors on the battery closer to the cells that are in the center of the battery, which is where most of the heat stays. This will cause the hybrid battery fan to run more often, which is a good thing because your battery will stay cooler more consistently. I'm sure this must have some kind of effect on battery draw, but in my mind it's a good trade-off for longer life of the hybrid battery.

I like the little shifter, it makes sense on a car like this. I did put a larger knob on mine for fun and to reach with fingers while hand on the wheel.. You have to make sure it's lightweight as the shifter will sag down into drive or "B" if you use a heavy one.

17:14 Fat disagree right there. We needn't still be defining ourselves against what we're not. Your tastes in cars aren't defined by yourselves, but by media culture, especially the prius's. You're not used to well rounded, soft, comfortable family cars that aren't a Cadillac. Compared to the European market. It's also a light car of 1290kg as well as long, which did make its chassis flexibility noticeable - but that's Toyota being cheap af. The Prius would be the perfect Citroën if it weren't for the Toyota badge.

What happened was, you didn't turn the car off before moving to the back seat, and lost track of the fact that the car was still ON even though the engine had shut down while the car wasn't moving. The car didn't rock back and forth except maybe on the parking pawls, unless you were careless enough to not even put it in Park, in which case it could easily rock a little. Set the car in Park and engage the parking brake, it won't budge. I'm a car enthusiast, I am VERY into cars, and I love the Prius. It is definitely a high performance vehicle - those people that only love "traditional" high performance vehicles are entirely too constrained in how they define performance, and how high is high.

This unit has 2 HDMI inputs and 1 HDMI output. Typically, the HDMI output allows for an external monitor while HDMI input allows adding Chromcast, Roku stick or mouse to the unit. These is separate available harness for rear camera and front camera. The unit has 2 USB ports and port for a microSD Card. Installation takes a couple hours. There is no splicing of wires. second gen batteries are cheap. there is no reason to pay the dealer. there are many reputable companies that re manufacture the hybrid / traction battery. like 800 bucks, and its easy to do your self. inverters seldom go bad, dont give people jump starts with a prius, its known to be an issue. the abs actuator / master cylinder is an expensive part, but very reasonable compared to the cost of a 3rd gen needing the same repair. ive checked on the part, and the 3rd gens equivalent part is nearly 2 to 3 times the cost . and u can diy this repair on a second gen, but the average person will not diy repair a 3rd gen with said issue, u will spend some 4000.00$ + at a dealer just for the part on a 3rd gen. its about 1200$ for the same part on the second gen. still expensive, but much more reasonable. then u have the electric water pump for the inverter. again no reason to go to the dealer. u can get this part cheap and do it yourself. the biggest complaints about people, are from those people that for whatever reason, choose to only go to the dealer. you will not like any generation of these cars, if you only use the dealer for every repair. however , the second gen is amazing i think, many parts can be got re manufactured by reputable companies, and many repairs can be done your self. there are some other things you didnt talk about, that are super nice about a prius. there is a mod, which u can wire an inverter to the car. power goes out for a week or more at your house, say from a hurricane, tornado, or some disaster, u can plug into your prius, power a refrigerator , a small ac, your laptop etc. the car will function as a super efficient gas powered generator. another nice thing, is a prius is the only car i know of that u can sleep in comfortable, with plenty of room, and leave the ac on all night with no worries at all. it is know its not good to let an engine idle for long periods of time. now u may find a conventional vehicle to sleep in, leave the ac on all night, and ya it works. its not safe tho , as for such long periods of idling, say passing out for 8 hours , carbon monoxide could leak from the exhaust , and leak into the interior. not good. a prius tho, will run the engine for very short times , say 5 to 10 mins an hour. and all its doing is starting to charge the battery. 75% of the time, the engine does not run, so it cuts back drastically on any carbon monoxide scares . tho i will say sleeping in any car, you should always use a carbon monoxide detector / alarm. last, the biggest point, look up taxi companies in new york city. how there are second gen prius, that made it well over 500k miles , and needed nothing but maintenance. there are forums of people who have bought these 500k mile cars, and still run good.

I’m a car enthusiast and I love my 2016 Toyota Prius. It looks rather sporty. Shod with 17” alloys. My previous car, my 2005 Mazda Axela (Mazda 3) 2 litre was very thirsty around town. Okay my Prius doesn’t have the performance of my 1984 Toyota Corolla FXGT, but it would easily out perform my 1970 Ford. Capri 1600 GT.

I like it. No annoying clunky automatic shifter like in a regular car. You don't even have to remember to put it in park, because the car does it for you when you turn it off.

One thing I wish you would do is put a tape measure in the trunk area to show the distance to the back of the driver's seat when the rear seats are down. Just saying it holds a lot is not very informative. The manufacturer's statement of cubic feet is ridiculous = I think I will go buy 50 cubic feet of lumber to build a frame : how much lumber is that anyway? I need to know if an 8' long board will fit. Maybe you can just climb in and show us if you could stretch out and sleep in it. That would be interesting too. You did the same thing on the Venza and I have no idea how long that floor is.

2:20 Friction is nothing to do with energy recovery. In fact friction is always a loss. Electric motors generate electricity when rotated by external forces. This is how we get power from windmills and water damns and.... the Prius.

You missed out on the extra large secret cup holder beneath the top two cup holders at the bottom of the armrest that will hold your large jug, I've only started owning Prius cars since March of 2020 now we own three of them, an 06, 07 and a 2012 v, because of some minor problems I spent a total of $8,000 for all three, I've done all the work to them, they have never seen any other mechanic other than me thanks to KZfaq, CV joints brake actuators , EGR cooler, fuel injectors, water pumps, all around suspension brakes, to me they're fun to work on using very basic tools, I drove to LA from San Diego and back and averaged 52 MPG's not bad for an 06 with 160, 000mi on it, I don't know why anybody would hate these cars they are way over engineered, what's nice is these cars don't have alternators or starters, the virtually bulletproof transmission does all the driving and regenerates with the breaking assist through the transmission other than that the brakes are normal and the brakes last over 100,000, the second generation is considered a legend

I have this car last 4 years reaching 100k miles soon ,just changed brakes and oil in the transmission... not a punching bag in Europe since gas is over $10 and we have car tax after co2 emission between $190-$2000 ,prius is $190 also people driving yaris ,Ford fiesta ,Peugeots etc. much worse and slower cars. I'm a car person but renting and have no future where I live so all I care about it to save for holidays ,new phones ,trading etc. def. working with this mindset and engineering, reliability under the hood still beat most cars out there

I wish I would've got the Prius cuz it would still be on the road now! Instead I bought a 106k mile 1994 Ford F-150 4x4 5.0 5 speed I get 19mpg with it and I love it! plus no car payment is the shit!

“This has been the internet’s punching bag for a couple years now.” Who says this? No one. The Prius community generally agrees the second generation are tanks that last forever if maintained. Yeah, you may have to replace the battery after (gasp) 150k - 200k miles. You’re punching down on a series 20 years old for being 20 years old.

9:28 ! And I'm not 100% sure but all old hybrids do it. The gas engine was turning on and the force of that made the car roll back and fourth slightly.
