Great video step by step clear and punctual!!!! Doing testing in my shop just like you. Seems like these motors are notorious doing this! Thanks man!

I had that with my explorer. Motor and system looks very similar. I have a vac disconnect.

Nice vid great job going from start to finish in terms of trouble shooting that will def hell us out here to not miss a step. Thank you as always!!!!
@privateparty4900
I replaced my t-case (due to it always partially engaging the front driveshaft from some kind of clutch drag/bad bearing) with a used unit and it was fine for a while but I engaged 4-Hi Auto while going down the road earlier this year and got a terrible clash noise... I assumed that was the end of the t-case but it turns out that the noise was the IWEs engaging and the T-Case had failed to spin up the driveshaft. I believe it has occasionally engaged the front in 4HI intermittently but I don't recall now. The weird part is that 4-LO still works reliably. ...so now if forward progress stops in the snow on the rear axle alone, I have to go down to low range. It shifts between High and Low range fine... and It seems like the front driveshaft clutch would use the same wire/relay/fuse for both high and low range so... far as I can tell the only thing not engaging is the front DS clutch and the dash always indicates the "shift" has completed. I can't imagine how this is happening.

Great tip. All connectors are easily broken when working at home. Haha.

I have a 2012 F150 crew cab Ecoboost and it appears to be shifting into both low and High 4X4 ok but I get the wrench error. Does the 4 X 4 shift motor send any sort of error code if its slow or not working efficiently? I am inclined to change it but if there is something else that could cause it I would like to check that first. Great video by the way and thank you for doing it.

I saw a Ford tech saying that these motors fail pretty regularly, but an easy fix. I found one on Amazon for $60
@newffee
I have a question. My 4x4 works fine but when I take it out and put it in 2wd there's a metal sound that gets higher pitched as the truck goes faster and slows down as the truck slows down. I replaced the Vacuum pump and the one way valve in the 4x4 system. The sound stopped for awhile but it's back again. Could it be the IWE's or the 4x4 shifter motor?

In the next video maybe show the A-B-C-D encoder pids as the motor moves. That verifies the repair. If my old POS has them, I'm sure that truck does! Some of the motors you have to repin the harness.
@HowToDoitright
So my 2014 4x4 acts wierd. When I put it in 4x4 low or high it seems like it doesn’t want to move freely. Like I feel some kind of resistance in it. So I just always drive it in 2x4 mode and there it drives just fine. What could be the problem?

Maybe I’m hearing it wrong, but on the engage in the front axles is with vaccum. Disengage is no vaccum on 2011 F250 superduty. And from my gathering up to 2018 and backwards into at least early 2000s.
@5ohjon885
I have a 2020 and when I shift to 4 high or 4 low it says check 4x4 any ideas? 2.7 ecoboost
@Waasuwaasol
What was the outcome of this failure? Was it solved by changing the electric motor?
@BlakeDowden-ge5sc
Did replacing the motor fix your problem? My 2018 F150 is doing the exact same thing.

I took my transfer case motor off and had someone shift my truck into 4 high and 4 low like you did. The motor was turning but no where near as far as your motor was turning. When I turned to 4 high it turned about a quarter inch and then another quarter inch on 4 low. Is that about right or no? 2013 ford f150 3.5 EcoBoost

Quick question. is the advance trac suppose to turn off on 4x4 high as well?

Did that fix the issue? I've been getting 4x4 temporarily disabled message on my dash whenever I actually need all 4 tires

Mr i have a vibration that dealer can find the cause i put a camera and front axles are spinning in 2wd also i have a oil leak front differential right axle seal and were the shaft from the transfer case came in few times at the dealer im far away from you looks like there is no good mechanics down here in south Florida
@user-fs1pf2hs1k
At the end of your video you mentioned turning the shifter knob would not activate the 4hi it would basically bypass 4hi and go right back to 2 hi. So that’s exactly what mine does and I’ve purchased a new motor and it does the exact same thing. I am starting to think I have a wiring issue?? Did the motor actually fix yours??
