This 2012 Equinox with the 2.4 had low power and misfire reported. Problem was a failed number 2 ignition coil.

FYI don't use antiseize on shiny (plated vs black oxide) spark plugs in aluminum heads made after the 80's. Plug MFG's use the proper plating that won't seize. What does happen is the antiseize dries up, interferes with the ground, and makes removal a pain.

Hello Phillip, I like what do, Thank you. I thought I would ask you what the ohms reading the fuel injectors should have for this engine. I get 1.6 ohms on all four, does this sound right? I started with replacing the Timing chain then VVT solenoids, did the PCV hole clean out, replaced all coils-sparkplugs then found another 2.4 ecotec common problem (cracked exhaust manifold) this seems to be as common as the rest of the problems this engine has. I ask what the ohms reading should be because I can't find those kind of specs anywhere. Thank you Phillip.

That sounds a bit low but considering they all measure the same I'd say it's OK. You are disconnecting them to test correct? What's the problem and why are you testing them. Resistance testing is only about 75% effective imo

Hi, what would be the omh resistance on the ignition coils? I have a 2013 Chevy Captiva sport 2.4 and just been looking for the service manual to know all of this stuff but I haven't been able to find it

You cannot measure the primary and secondary resistance of most GM ignition coils due to the fact that there is a built in transistor. In fact any coil with more than 2 primary control wires typically contains a switching transistor and cannot be resistance tested. Swapping with a known good coil is the easiest approach. Current Ramping is another approach as well. Hope this helps you.

My car has the same issue right now i changed both vct last time and now a mechanic is saying its the timing chain but at autozone i got the same code po300 so what could it be then

If the chain is worn the cam timing will be wrong which leads to random misfire which sets a P0300 code. So if plugs, coils and injectors have been ruled out your mechanic is likely right.

Could this code also mean the solenoids need to be replaced? Or just the spark plugs? I got this code and the scanner read VCT variable camshaft Timing Solenoid.

There areblots of possibilities for misfire. If you have a cam timing error code thatvcan cause random misfires. It could be a stuck solenoid but could also be loose timing chain or stuck phaser.

If it reads VCT variable camshaft Solenoid then it's a good possibility that you need to change your solenoids.

@@kingrichards101 Hello, yes! When they checked my car I literally had no oil. I had no idea! (I don't know much about cars so I didn't know I still needed to periodically add oil even if the oil change was recent) I got an oil/filter change and the car was fine! I did end up getting all new solenoids/spark plugs and breaks put in a week later. My car is back to driving smooth and have had no further problems🙂

I replaced all 4 spark plugs and coils and I'm still getting the p303 code. Plus the stability track light keeps coming on. I need help. Im trying to avoid having to replace the injectors.

Check compression and do an injector flow test.

@BullProspecting you need to flow test the injectors. You could swap number 3 to 4 and see if the misfire follows the injector. I'd still recommend a compression test first though. On rare occasions flushing injectors helps but usually does not.

@BullProspecting There are several possibilities for a misfire. 1. Poor ignition possibly due to faulty or worn sparkplugs, failing ignition coil or supporting wiring or failed driver in the ECM. 2. Plugged or stuck closed fuel injector or possibly poor spray pattern, injector wiring or again failed driver in the ECM. 3. Low or lack of compression in a cylinder possibly due to broken or leaking piston rings, burnt valve, worn cam lobe or collapsed lifter. A compression tester confirms the rings and valves are working correctly.

The spec is 15ft lbs.

I've noticed most of your vehicles are very dirty. Is that due to slushy roads? I live where it rarely snows.

I'm in northern Ontario Canada so we get snow and slush 8 months of the year. Lots of my customers also live on gravel roads as do I. Plus they spray salt on the highways to control ice and that eats everything.

@@PhillipBailey the one I talked to you about it the other week. Surging at idle and timing all over the place. Seen this video pop up and thought you had the same problem. This one isn't isolated to one cylinder tho.

I’m having a problem with the exact same vehicle. Mechanic says they’ve did everything but might need a new motor? Is that right?

That's a loaded question. It is possible that a misfire is caused by a mechanical problem in the engine. Misfire codes can be caused by ignition faults such as a failed coil, sparkplug or wiring to the coil, Failed or plugged injector, vacuum leak on the intake port or manifold, cam timing errors, bad valves and piston rings. Could also be fuel quality or low fuel pressure. You have to test all these things prior to condemning the engine. If I was you I'd get a second opinion...but yes it may need an engine replacement or internal repairs.

P0300 is a random misfire which could be caused by plugs, ignition coils, plug boots, plugged injectors or mechanical engine problems. P050D is cold start misfire and basically the same as P0300

@@christophersmith3661 you need to see if the miss is random or isolated to a specific cylinder. Look at cumulative misfires in mode 6 data to see what has been counted over the last 10 drive cycles. This will be wiped out if you clear the codes. If your scanner supports live data check misfire counters while running. If it seems to be a specific cylinder I'd try swapping a coil first see if the misfire moves with the coil. Good luck

My car is giving misfire codes like P0300 P0191 P0172 P2271 P050D Are the app aspirated with fuel rail pressure issues

The P0172 is running rich, 2271 is B1S2 O2 pegged rich, P0191 is a high pressure fuel pressure irregularity. I'd check for fuel in the engine oil. Probably has a leaking high pressure fuel pump leaking fuel into the engine oil. The misfire codes are likely as a result of running rich. Good luck...

@momomo3772 I'd suggest to check the engine oil for contamination as I said. Don't throw parts at it. The fuel injectors are not cheap nor easy to replace. If the oil is overfull then change it. Running watch the short term and long term fuel trim numbers they should be +/- 10% max. Watch desired and actual High Pressure Fuel pressure running. Should match. Once warm shut it off and then turn the ignition back on. Monitor HP actual fuel pressure and note that it should rise as the engine goes through a hot soak. If the HP fuel pressure does not rise replace the HP pump.

@@PhillipBaileyYes it has been confirmed that there is fuel in the engine oil.. And we jus thought the motor was burning oil into the engine..but thought it was a manufacture problem with the sylinoids

@momomo3772 like I said likely a leaking HP pump. It's easy to replace but not cheap. Be sure the change the oil and filter as well.
