Several people have commented on this video and said that this helped them out so you may as well give this vented oil cap a try here is the link to the Amazon for it.
Note : I’ve never personally used it but several people have commented that it worked on their 2.4. Probably wouldn’t hurt on the 3.6, 3.5 3.4 and 2.2 either….

If you ever had to remove your intake off your 2.4 eco-tech this video is going to show you how to, Nut and bolt remove it along with showing you how to also remove the high-pressure fuel pump off your cylinder head this information is going to be useful on the 2008 2009 Chevy equinox but is going to be different because the 2008 and 2009 do not have a high pressure fuel pump like this one does . This information will be also very useful for cleaning the PCV valve on the 2.4 eco-tech so pay attention to what I say and how I talk about it and hopefully we can keep your vehicle on the road for many more years. I appreciate you taking the time to watch the video God bless and have the best of days

ATTENTION----ATTENTION THESE WERE ALL MY SYMPTOMS AND THE THINGS I REPLACED ON THE CAR BEFORE I SEEN THIS VIDEO AND SOLVED MY PROBLEMS. I HAVE A 2012 2.4L ENGINE CHEVY EQUINOX EXACT ENGINE AS THIS ONE. MY VEHICLE WAS WAS SHAKING AND ROCKING AT A COMPLETE STOP AT THE RED LIGHT, ITS WAS JERKING SO BAD AFTER DRIVING FOR A WHILE THAT I HAD TO PUT IT IN NEUTRAL EVERY TIME A CAME TO A RED LIGHT. I REPLACED THE FOLLOWING THINGS: UPSTREAM AND DOWNSTREAM O2 SENSORS---PURGE VALVE----AIR INTAKE SENSOR REPLACED THE LITTLE U PLASTIC TUBE GOING TO THE AIR BOX, THE ONE THATS FILLED WITH WATER SOMETIMES. I REPLACE THE THE THROTTLE BODY WITH SENSOR ON IT-------I REPLACED THE FUEL CAP AND THE OIL CAP-- I USE CAT CLEAN AND OIL ADDITIVES--- I CHANGE THE TWO ENGINE AND INTAKE VALVES THAT SIT ON TOP OF THE ENGINE (GREY AND WHITE ). I DID MUCH MORE BUT WHEN I SEEN THIS VIDEO, I SAID TO MY SELF, ITS NO WAY IN HELL THIS IS MY PROBLEM AT ALL, NO WAY!!!! IT WAS THE FOURTH OF JULY AND IVE HAD THIS VEHICLE FOR 5 MONTHS NOW AND ITS BEING DOING THIS SINCE I BOUGHT IT. I HAD CONVINCED MYSELF THAT IT WAS JUST THE TIMING CHAIN THAT HAD SKIPPED, LIKE THE ONES YOU SEE ON KZfaq, BUT IT WAS THE 4TH OF JULY I WASN'T DOING ANYTHING SO I SAID TO MYSELF, LET ME RUN INSIDE A GET MY DRILL. I GOT THE SMALLEST SCREW I COULD FIND, I FOUND TWO THEN THE LITTLEST DRILL BIT AND I DRILL A HOLE IN THE AREA I SEEN IN THE VIDEO AFTER REMOVING ALL THAT PLASTIC AIR INTAKE CRAP, IT TOOK ME 2 SECONDS BUT I DIDNT FIND THE HOLE, SO I HAD TO DRILL ANOTHER HOLE UNDER THE FIRST I DID CASE IT WAS TO HIGH FROM THE HOLE INSIDE THE ENGINE MANIFOLD. BUT THE SECOND HOLE WAS PERFECT SO I TOOK SOME CARB CLEANER WITH THE STRAW AND SHOT THE CLEANER ALL IN THAT NEWLY DRILLED HOLE, CARB CLEANER SPLASHED EVERYWHERE CAUSE OF THE TWO HOLES I MADE. AFTERWARDS I TOOK A PAPERCLIP AND WENT THROUGH THE DRILLED HOLE TIL I FELT THE OTHER HOLE INSIDE THE MANIFOLD, WIGGLE IT IN AND OUT THEN SPRAYED SOME MORE CARB CLEANER IN IT AND TOOK MY TWO LITTLE SCREWS AND SCREWED THE TWO DRILLED HOLE SHUT. I PUT EVERYTHING BACK TOGETHER AND IT TOOK ME LESS THAN 12 MINS, ENJOYED THE HOLIDAY FOOD AND DIDNT THINK OF IT AT ALL. I JUST WANTED TO SAY I DID EVERYTHING POSSIBLE BEFORE I LET THE DEALER FIX THE TIMING CHAIN. BUT WITH MY AMAZEMENT THE NEXT DAY. I STARTED THE CAR AND I FERLT SOMETHING DIFFERENT, YOU JUST COULD FEEL IT. YUP, GO TO FIND OUT THAT ALL THESE PROBLEMS MY VEHICLE WAS HAVING WAS BECAUSE OF THIS SMALL PIN SIZE HOLE THE ENGINE WAS FIGHTING TO GET AIR FROM. THIS HOLE WAS PLUGGED UP WITH CARBON JUST AS THE VIDEO DESCRIBES . SO THATS MY STORY, I HOPE THAT YOU ALL CAN USE THIS TO SAVE YOU A LOT OF GUESSING AS I DID. THANKS FOR TAKING THE TIME TO READ MY WALL OF LOUD TEXT, LOL

I just want to say thank you for this video. I was noticing my equinox 2013 not driving well. Chevy had extended the warranty to 120K miles for the PCV orifice, however apparently my VIN was not covered. After a long fight with them I decided it wasn't worth it. I opened their bulletin and used a manometer to confirm PCV was blocked. Engine was bucking, there was white gum (condensation) at the oil fill cap (and no I'm not losing coolant). I checked the PCV hose like you said, and it was gummed up as well, with oil in the air box. I was consuming some oil as well. These are all symptoms of a clogged PCV. I decided not to drive the vehicle for a few months until I had time to fix it. For all of you decided if you should look into this, the answer is YES. After Chevy denied to work on it, I reached out to a local mechanic and he was quoting me 500 to 700 USD. So I decided to open it up myself. PCV orifice was blacked out and gummed up. Used to WD40 Carb Cleaner, placed high pressure into the orifice as well as cleaning with a drill bit. Put everything back together. Overall tooK less than 2 hours of my own time. I did not need to change the gaskets or PCV hose. I cleaned everything out. Cost for the job is $0. If you need a new PCV hose, you can get it on amazon for $10. For 2 hours of time, this was completely worth it. My equinox is driving like new now. PLEASE DO NOT WAIT FOR THIS TO CAUSE YOU AN ISSUE DOWN THE LINE. I WILL BE DOING THIS EVERY 1 - 2 YEARS. IF YOU DO NOT TAKE CARE OF THIS, YOU WILL FOR SURE DEVELOP AN OIL LEAK FROM ALL THE PRESSURE BUILDING UP IN THE SYSTEM. THE OIL LEAK FROM THE REAR MAIN SEAL (WHICH IS THE MOST COMMON IN THIS CASE), THAT WILL COST YOU $3000 TO $5000 IN REPAIRS. JUST TAKE CARE OF THIS, IT TAKES A FEW HOURS. I AM NOT A MECHANIC IN ANY WAY AND WAS ABLE TO DO IT. I WORK IN HEALTH CARE LOL.

Hi! What was the mileage on your car when you found it had PVC clogged up? I'm buying an 2017 equinox, and planning to do this every year as well. How's the weather in your area? Mine is around -30C in the winter, so I'm not sure if doing it once a year would be enough

@@thommytruong29 I live in Toronto and Upstate NY. So we get pretty cold Temps (not consistently negative 30 though). Every year should probably be fine but also depends on how much you drive. I'm not a car expert in any way (I work in medical field). Keep in mind, if you always have cold weather, I would definitely clean out your PCV hose often. The bend on the hose is poorly designed, with the moisture accumulating on the top of the hose while driving, and then when you stop driving, the cold temperatures freeze all the moisture in the pcv hose and then crank pressure builds up. So make sure you clean that out. Another option (which I did as a fail safe) was to buy a vented oil cap. I bought a AC DELCO one for $10 on Amazon. It's kind of like your back up. If the crack vases cannot leave through your PCV VALVE or PCV HOSE, then at least they can escape from the vented oil cap so that the pressure doesn't build up. Small expense for $10 but worth it.

@@TheNAVagator Thank you for your reply man! Did you end up cleaning PVC hose the 2nd time after 1-2 years? Did it have oil built up again? And yea, I'm planning to buy the ACDelco FC219 oil cap ASAP as well (even though it looks exactly the same as the normal cap from the picture). I may even put an oil trap can as well.

Fantastic! I have 2012 equinox and after reading the tsb on this been wanting to do this but wasn’t exactly sure how, this was super helpful. Looks like I only need to buy two new tools, the fuel line thing and some angle nose pliers. Luckily no oil leaks yet. We really like the car, too bad chevy made such a crappy engine for it.

Thanks for this video. I just performed this yesterday and what a difference it made. My daughter took it to a local shop and they told her there was metal shavings in the engine and that the engine had been submerged in water. There was no signs of metal shavings and the moisture they were seeing was because of the plugged PCV orifice. This is a great do it yourself job.

I just want to comment that I changed the spark plugs on my Equinox because the RPM needle was unstable after I changed the spark plugs the needle calmed down a bit but when I was removing everything to change the spark plugs I noticed that there was thick oil in the pcv valve I just cleaned it little and so I drove it like this and after seeing this video I went and bought a new pcv valve and replaced it but first I cleaned well the duct where the air passes to the engine and the hole where the pcv valve connects to the engine. problem solved From now on I will clean it every 6 months. Thanks for the video, it was very helpful.

is it possible to just add a normal pvc valve to the manifold and connect it to the top rocker cover? and just forget that vent? if not what about drilling straight thru from that vent thru the intake and then plug that hole but that makes is so you can remove the plug and clean out the vent easier?

Thank you so much for this video!! Our GMC Terrain, 2013, 2.4ltr is having this issue. There is an enormous amount of pressure felt coming from the valve cover oil filler cap after removing it. It is just way too much than should be. My Son and I are going to try cleaning the PCV port as you have demonstrated, but, I wanted to ask you if fully tearing down the hoses, high pressure gas pump, and the other things you have shown is necessary to gain access to the PCV port in the Intake manifold? The reason I ask is that we don't have all the tools you mentioned in your video and the Terrain is our only vehicle and our funds are very tight meaning I can't really go and buy them. The Uber rides are killing us financially. Is there a shorter or short cut way to do the port cleaning without doing a full tear-down and removal of the intake manifold? Thank you for any help you can provide us as we really are in a bad financial situation and we need the car at least until we can get a better vehicle. Additionally, there is oil leaking from the rear seal on the engine. It isn't an exorhorant amount, but I feel if we were to drive the car in it's present condition the seal would blow-out completely. Again, thank you for all your help and advice. Any idea what might be wrong? 108K miles. (New plugs at 100K). Wiring? A piece of dirt got in the fuel line and went to the fuel injector for #3? Leak? Slow acceleration. Thanks a bunch! Thank you for the informative video. One question though. Does the engine need to be rotated by hand or any special tools required for reinstalling the old fuel pump? It went back with some resistance which I would say is compressing of the fuel pump spring and the old oring gasket that was cut when reinstalling and now needs to be replaced. The reason I ask about the rotation of the motor is a generic Bosch high pressure fuel pump replacement video shows rotating the motor and inserting a plug that I would say makes sure the lobe on the camshaft is facing away from the roller.
@sharpcarco
@sharpcarco 3 жыл бұрын
Well the only reason you would rotate the motor is so it’s easier to put in this is a spring and cam actuated motor meaning that when the lobe is pushing out it pumps the fuel injection pump so other than you applying enough pressure to push down on the spring and insert the screws there’s really no reason why you can’t insert it at any position of the engine.

I don't know what you mean by "studs" but I'm about to find out. I was going to remove the plenum and inspect and clean it, but changed my mind after watching this video. I may also try "TS SCI's" testing procedure first - (Owners can test the orifice very easily for blockage. While the engine is running, remove PCV tube and block the plastic fitting leading to the camshaft cover. You will hear a whistling sound. This is air being drawn past the rear seal under vacuum. You can also pull your dipstick and place your finger on the tube. You should feel a slight vacuum. This means the orifice is open.)

Well you would think I would know that question I went back and looked at the video I don’t normally do that but I Think that was for the emission system probably a purge solenoid of some kind can’t say for certain though. If you don’t have it it probably didn’t come with it the engine block in the cylinder head are the same from 2010 and upward but some of the emission systems are going to be different.

Hello Clay, I'm very thankful for your videos. I do have a question, which is - I had a major fuel line leak from the high pressure pump fuel line (top side that connects to the pump) after taking the fuel line off. I'm trying to figure out why it's leaking after tightening, I didn't over tighten it and it is tight.. Is it TRUE that we have to replace this short line after removing it? If so do you know where the the best place to get it is? I've searched but can't come with anything. Thank You. B
@sharpcarco
@sharpcarco 2 жыл бұрын
Well I’ve never had one leak so what I would probably do is pull the line off completely because it’s fairly simple inspect the ends and make sure that it is seating correctly as you tighten it down. . If it has any like straight edges to it and it looks like the ball is cracked or something you will have to replace the line. I’ve never bought them before but I would assume that you can get them from the dealership rather easily since they’re always saying “they always need to be replaced” I personally never had mine replaced but I’ve had people tell me that before if they’re not Leaking I wouldn’t see any need and replacing them

Dude, you’re trying to do a good thing here (intro is freaking great) but for many of us with attention deficit and related-combined OCD issues it is absolutely impossible to follow your instructions and read (and comprehend) the bottom-of-screen factoids at the same time. Can you print a version without the distractions? If not, I still appreciate the help you provide with these videos. Thank you.

That’s the nicest way anybody has ever put that, So I greatly appreciate the time you trying to be nice I’m sure you’ve looked at KZfaq several times Michael and I’m sure there’s been several times that you watch the video fast forward to the part that you’re looking for watch that part then turn the video off and never think about it ever again, i’ve personally done that exact same thing dozens of times until I started making KZfaq videos. Then I realized what happens to the producer of that video it kills his channel algorithm. So I certainly can understand being able to pay attention but what it does is it makes you watch the fact toyed‘s and then go back and rewatch the program. I very much enjoy the facts it makes editing the video that much better. Editing is the worst part of making any video it’s very time consuming and extremely boring So I do it for the exact reason you’re telling me I shouldn’t do it but KZfaq videos only make about 2/10 of a cent per view and I don’t put them in there on every single video. Just the ones that I believe people will skip a crossed, and we’re still in the testing stage so it’s very possible that we may not do it any longer bought they are fun and help you out in possible awkward social situations. Once again I do greatly appreciate the kind words it’s just difficult at this point to see if it actually works or not like I said they’re not every single video

Hello Clay, Brian here again with another question because you obviously know 2.4l ecotec engines. I started out just replacing the Timing chain on my sister's 2012 Equinox 2.4 l then both cam solenoids, then did the intake removal to replace gaskets. Still ran rough after 5 seconds of idle. I removed the valve cover today and found a lake of oil/fuel just sitting in the back on top of head under the exhaust cam. Any advise on this? I've spent more time in front of my computer screen reading comments/advise and research on GM flaws (surprised it's still legal for them to design engines) trying to figure this engine out than I ever have. My eyes are exhausted lol

Usually that’s going to be the PCV valve is plugged like I show you in the video that you’re talking about. I don’t know everything about these engines but I do know that the problem that you’re describing could also be related to your cam bearing clearance and that’s probably the issue with yours. It’s possible it could be a PCV valve problem but if it’s not that it’s definitely Cam bearings

@@sharpcarco Thank you Clay, I did like you showed/said cleaning out that PCV hole the first time I took the Intake off, I was actually happy to see it was plugged, because it meant time well spent Thank you! I also noticed oil sitting in the head opening where the PCV hole aligns up with the head. I don't understand why there would be oil there. also to add when I replaced the Cam Phasers I noticed a gap on the Exhaust Camshaft (Between the passenger side of the Camshaft and the Passenger far side Cam Bearing and was able to move the Exhaust Cam to no longer have a gap. So with that being said I'm with you on what you are saying. I wish I worked with you.

Thank you for the great video! I am currently doing this to my Equinox. Just for the extra security, I put the cam in the correct position. No need to remove tire or splash shield or have someone else there with you. Going between the belt and splash guard from the top of the engine bay, I used an open ended 21mm wrench in my left hand and used my right index to see which way the roller was going. When I felt the roller cup was all the way in, I used a sharpie and marked where the roller cup was inside the housing. Rotated the engine a couple more times to verify my marks, still using my finger for pressure. Easier for me to see the movement instead of feeling for it. Takes about 5 minutes.

Hey Tom, Your Big problem is that cheap black plastic 90 degree fitting that goes into the air box, from the valve cover, the oily misty vapor turns to goop that freezes, Blowing out your rear main seal? I put a 3/8 brass barbed fitting there, ran a 3/8 hose from new fitting to a cheap air/oil separator , $10.- from Home Depot, to the valve cover, just remember the dirty air is coming from the valve cover, run that hose into the IN arrow on the air /oil catch can, (stuff a SS scouring pad into catch can) then to the new 3/8 barbed fitting on air box? I also used a Vet vented oil fill cap from Napa, $12.-? It's a cheap, quick fix, to prevent disaster? Heck, the vented oil cap, will prevent the rear main seal from letting go? PS, I went further; I installed a K&N Intake Kit, I flushed the engine, & soaked the rings overnight with Gumont W/PEA, Great for the Carbon on the rings? I have a 13 Terrain, problem started at 80K, now have 108K ? I love the car, if & when it Blows, I will not get a crate motor from GM, Same problems all over again? There are a 1/2 dozen reputable engine rebuilders out there that have fixed & improved everything that is wrong with this engine! Good Luck!

Remove the 1 stud on the right side of the intake with 5mm socket. Intake will slide off and tip forward. No need to pull the intake entirely out, just check the pcv hole with the intake tilted back.

@tssci6774

You can reduce the carbon by using a high quality synthetic with a low volatility score. API minimum is 15%. Look for 100% synthetic oils which resists breakdown and has a volatility score of 7% or less. Also these GDI engines are known for higher than normal fuel dilution and soot which contributes much to the wear and other problems. Ignore the OLM and stick to a 3k interval. I have seen in many engines the oil will shear back to a 20 weight in as little as 2k miles.

The only thing I could think of that you were referring to is the shoe that is on the end of the high-pressure fuel pump.

Is the symptom actually oil leaking on the driveway or just oil consumption?
@TheNAVagator
@TheNAVagator 2 жыл бұрын
Its oil being dumped into the intake manifold and into the air box. You generally wont see oil being burned or oil on the floor until the pressure builds up enough to blow a gasket or ruin your engine, which will happen over time if you dont get this taken care of

@@TheNAVagatorSad Update. This video was a warning and I ignored it. Since I posted this, my rear main seal blew out. Lilkely for exactly this reason. EXpensive fix as they had to pull the engine.

@@Packer1290 oh no! I'm sorry to hear that! Do you mind me asking how much people were asking to fix it? My guess would be between 3k and 5k? I hope you moved onto a better vehicle maybe?

The extra oil drip puts an extra hip on gas mileage and power in mine, won't pass the smog test though.
