Dang, how is this a decade old? Still looks sharp and with a mild APR tune would still be competitive performance wise today.

Have the 2013 Autobahn...its just an amazing car to drive. I love the throatiness of the exhaust. Had an '04 GTI, 09 Jetta SE and the 13 GLI is the best of the 3. Fender audio rocks! Love the subwoofer!

Fantastic review!! I love the GLI......but it was to small for a growing family.....got a VW CC with a manny tranny.....fantastic car too!

I have the 2012 tdi passat and its badass and gets about 43 mpg on the highway

going by the spec sheet it seems to meet my needs. Too bad it needs premium gas--with direct-injection it really shouldn't need it. A few more colour selections and interior colours would be plus. Great review by the way!

Looks like a corolla... Like the rear tail lights, though. Also the LSD for a starting price of 24k makes it a good adult alternative to the civic SI, focus st, mazda speed 3 and wrx-- and you'll get pulled over less than those or it's sister gti. :) gotta love sleepers!

i agree with you passion, not to worry though man next years gli will be much better then the 2012 it will have led headlamps and a back up camera in the navigation screen!! thats when im getting mine 2013 better to wait one more year!

@kfr19 He's right. I think this Jetta is built in the same VW plant as the Pasaat in Chattanooga, TN. You'd think all of the high end stuff is in the SEL top of the line. In addition, the GLI uses a rear multi-link suspension as compared to a torsion-beam to the other Jettas.

@kfr19 Leatherette as opposed to leather, manual seat adjustments, no navi or telematics, no smart key, no back-up cam...stuff you could argue should be in the top trim Jetta.

steeve hammes which is a better car the 2012 ford focus ST or the VW Jetaa GLI, i mean the manual, yes auto DSG is the best in the world no competition there, please help eagerly waitin 4 a performance car after the slow hondas and hyundai, budget is around 30k

Drove the GLI 2 months ago, and I fell in love. But it does not have the luxury of n A4 that I currently have.

definitely nice to see that they've made the gli more of a real volkswagen. But I would still take the GTI any day; you just can't beat the original.

yup that's what bother's me the most, i mean the interior i can live with, all touch points are nice materials. But those headlight's are killing me, i mean even on the mk5, they did bi-xenon's on the gli. You can really see where vw cut cost's on this current model. However i do like the looks of this mk6 over mk5 jetta. The mk5 jetta was just too bubbly..

I just moved from a 2010 Wolfsburg to the GLI and boy what a let down! The fun factor decreased about 50%, and the cost cutting on this car is ridiculous, especially with the cheap plastics. The Wolfsburg felt tight and nimble, and was a joy to drive. This GLI is almost a bore.

@PassionOfTheMan come on man...think about it. Yes the 200hp/207tq is pretty weak but if you get an apr tune for $600 (some are cheaper) you can get 256hp/297tq! You're car will come to live trust me. The interior is not cheap at all...the steering will is sweet as fuck with all the necessary buttons, audio system is raw as fuck. Suspension is GREAT...you will feel the difference. For 27K+$500 you are getting a lot of car

@camaroman101 Well Kia known for modeling many of it's cars after other car companies...For a while their cars looked like cheap Jaquars in the early 2000's, then in the Mid 2000's their cars resembled honda's and toyota's mixed all together into one design...and now the newest cars look cross between audi's and toyotas....Hyundai does the same thing as well, One year the Sonata look like a jaguar,the next it'll like like a Accord, and then it'll look like an Camry, I guess next will be a BMW

I am just 5 .5 feet so space was more than enough for me in the ST, also the Focus drives like dream, The Jetta is frankly BORING, it just felt like a normal Jetta with a turbo engine, low end grunt was a little better in Jetta than ST but once the throttle is pushed a little further the ST is damn awesome, it just flies and its rear end is very playful and even with those tail happy nature it was uber stable on road, suspension had the best balance between comfort and stiffness as well,ST wins

hmm... Well i do like the interior and its rims, but the whole outlook of the jetta i personally feel like its lost. I'm an owner of a jetta VR6 2001 and was thinking of buying a GLI, but I like the 2005 better than this one. Again, my opinion.

cheap interior? No...it has the upscale one as always. Also the halogens are gone with Xenons now. and its getting a 215hp engine this month

Well i test drove the Focus ST and GLI and to be frank really sorry, i cant agree with u, the gLI has got one of the most boring interior inside the cabin(mind i wanted it to be used as a fun car), the rear legroom was excellent and the cabin felt spacious in GLI but the engine note was tooo boring, the steering felt lifeless when compared to the Focus ST, the Audio system provided by VW sucked before Fords SONY,although a little juvenile in looks and charecter it was miles better FUN TO DRIVE

vw lost its way....like the front end but get ride of the Buick looking fog lights give back Audi's taillights....reshape the rear end so it doesn't look like a 2010 Toyota Camry and give the damn car some balls..put the 280hp 3.6L...
