( www.TFLcar.com ) The 2014 Volkswagen Jetta SE has a new 1.8L turbocharged engine and independent rear suspension. So does that make it faster and does it handle better. In another brand new TFLcar race track review we see just how fast the 2014 Volkswagen Jetta is from 0-60 MPH and how fast it will lap the tight TFLcar race track.

I love those mechanical gauges, I hate how so many new cars are going to digital, I like the simple look, and it's less to go wrong later.

I couldn't agree more! The digital gauges are almost distracting and I find watching a needle on an analogue gauge also gives a feeling a speed unlike digital speedometers.

That's pretty impressive to come in only 2 seconds slower around the track than a BMW 435i, which costs more than twice as much money ($47,000 vs. $19,000), and which is a RWD coupe, vs a FWD 4-door sedan. Way to go VW!!

This track testing definitely adds a new level to your reviews. Hope you will be able to use this track for the long term. As far as the love-late relationship with the Jetta, you need to add bland exterior styling to the hate list. The brown color doesn't help either.

I'm from germany and It's quite interesting to me how Volkswagen seems to think that the american market has lower expectations... it's unthinkable that Volkswagen would be offering the older automatic in the lower priced version in germany. Over here people would see it as a cheap solution and it would damage the brand. I think they should offer the same technological standard in both countries... it'd be good for their credibility.

From now on, when you do the track test, it will be great if you can show only 2 screens like the last lap you did at 7:27 :), and if you can show more or even a full onboard lap (POV) how do you wanna call it that would be perfect :D

It's a very dynamic driving experience considering it's a front-drive platform. The Passat can be had with a 3.6L VR6 that puts out 282 horsepower, coupled with Volkswagen's excellent DSG gearbox with paddle shifting. The TDI offers world-record level mpg's with many owners reporting upper 40's in real-world driving and a large torque boost to a whopping 280 ft. lbs. this year, which it makes relatively low in the rev band (also coupled to the DSG). It's a very well-sorted chassis with capable brakes, too. All in all, the Passat is an American-built, high-quality German sedan that I was proud to say that I worked on as a member of the Quality Group during my time at the Chattanooga, Tennessee Assembly Operation. If you're in the market for a mid-sized sedan, I highly encourage you to check it out and look beyond the typical stoic German conservative styling.

Im driving this as a loaner while my 13 Jetta TDI Sedan is in the shop for dsg and other issues. I have to say this cars horsepower and torque are underrated. The transmissions shudders, not sure what thats about but the engine, sunroof, kessy, and touchscreen make me hope they never fix my diesel. However I wish the 1.8 got the same mpg as my jetta. Roman is right, the look of this car and even the updated 2015 is boring! Ill be happy when my lease is up.

Is this car quick enough? I'm looking in leasing one for a first car and love the styling and available features. However, I am worried about having a 4 cylinder car. I've been driving all 6 cylinder cars and think they're more than adequate on the highway. However, I once drove a 2012 Ford Focus on the highway and it scarred me. I had it to the floor and was barely going 70. Felt like there was no power at all. Is this car like that? I live in Michigan so people drive 75-80 mph. I'm also worried about how it will be in our Michigan winters... considering it is FWD. I'm also comparing this car to a 2015 Chrysler 200C AWD since leasing prices are similar for both. I prefer the Jetta over the 200 for styling, but I do prefer the available AWD and V6 in the 200. However, I feel like since it's my first car, the Jetta would be better.

You guys should really get a guy that knows how to drive a bit better. Not to offend Roman, but I feel like he either needs more experience driving or something. FWD cars don't have the back end drift or come around unless you are pulling the e-brake. Even then, you can't sustain the drift efficiently. FWD cars always under steer when pushed too hard, even with limited slip difs. I like your reviews and i really feel this channel has potential, but it needs refinement. I just feel that driving is one of those things that requires that "seat of your pants" feel. Just saying you're hitting the apex a lot doesn't mean you're a good driver. I'm rooting for you guys, but I hope you take this comment to heart and get some extra off-camera track time or get a new guy for track reviews.

I used to be a big VW fan, having owned and enjoyed them for years. However, I've found the quality has gone down and the warranty has been shortened as well as the prices soaring! I recently considered trading my 2010 Golf for a GTI but didn't. For only slightly more money I bought a Cadillac ATS with a better warranty and longer maintenance included! Additionally, most people think the Cadillac is a much more expensive car giving it a feeling of prestige never felt in the VW!

I am a VW fan, too. However, I feel like VW is trying to make itself more of a premium brand. VW should definitely improve the quality of their cars, and make them more reliable. I expect a lot more from the European car makers. Even Hyundai, Kia, and Chrysler have improved the quality of cars. I looked at the new 2014 CTS, but felt like it was a mistake for them to raise the prices on the CTS. The 2015 Hyundai Genesis is a very tempting alternative to the CTS. Now if a CTS started at $38,000 with a fully loaded V-sport costing $60,000, then I would be singing a different tune.

n777ua Inferior build quality? Jetta has been criticized for several years now for having a poor quality interior. Hyundai/Kia are ranked highly for quality these days. No turbo in the Forte means not shitty turbo lag and better long-term reliability. If you insist on a turbo, you can get a 1.6L 201hp 4cyl. turbo in the Forte hatch and coupe. I'd still like to see who performs better on the track.
@sic22l
@sic22l 10 жыл бұрын
palebeachbum Base Jetta has lower quality plastics but also lower price. GLI is better. Turbo lag in 1.8T engine is almost unnoticeable and unlike Forte is has a lot of torque at low revs: 184 lb-ft @ 1500 - 4750 rpm. That's "slightly" better than Forte's 154 lb-ft @ 4,700 rpm. Kia's 1.6l turbo engine is crap, huuuge turbo lag, no power at low revs, low real world mileage. Jetta GLI also has multilink rear suspension (Forte - odl style Torsion beam) which makes it better to drive. Jetta is better drivers car and I ... wouldn't buy it. I'd get Golf VII instead.

I think 0-60 times and hot laps are irrelevant for cars like this. I want to know how it drives in the real world. Is it smooth on dumpy roads? Good gas mileage, comfortable, spacious, how is the interior. Yes of course it needs to perform, keep up with traffic and over take if need be but that's a small part. 99.99% of people who own a jetta will never take it on a track.

Dear sir, I hope I'm not being insulting, but I find it exceptionally hard to see the point of these timed laps. Even more for timing them to the hundreds of a second. Your driving lines are quite...well... let's say unusual. And therefore the consistency of laptimes can't be that great from lap to lap let alone from car to car. You could've taken 3 seconds off that laptime easily by not braking seriously too late, driving a correct line and using manual shifting mode. ...and 5 seconds easily with a proper driver mod. :)

I'm sorry guys, as much as I love watching all of your videos, I feel like you maybe can't sustain this pace of video? Your camera work is mostly shaky and awkward (never zoom, good lord!) Editing seems rushed, and messy - as does your presenting, with errors and stutters all included. It's not the TFLCar I remember subscribing to a year ago. kirbyswarp That's what US market wanted - low cost. Basic EU Jetta is GLI's equivalent.

I'm not sure why anybody would buy a jetta/passat. They are very bland and boring looking. I figured the only reason was because.. well, diesel. Now there are much better cars available, especially in appearance. The cruze is available in a diesel now, too. I am friends with a guy who drives for his job, but he has to use his own vehicle. He bought a used cruze with 13k miles on it and in a little under 2 years he has put 100k miles on it. He said it's treated him great, except for some turbo problems.

Boring car! Thought I would never say that on a VeeDub! The Beetle, and the Gti will be more fun. The Passat Diesel is the ultimate family from VeeDub. Waste of time Jetta needs to be more interesting.

This car does nothing to grab your attention. Sure you can have impressive and improved performance but if the exterior looks like a 1994 Honda Accord, I could care less...

I think u need to focus more on illustation the interior and the exterior, first. Then, examine the car performance. Good luck!
